-1 month later-Iwatobi High School-

"Hey everybody, I'm Matsuoka Rin. I've just transferred from Samezuka Academy, I know my name sounds girly, but I'm a guy. Anyways, nice to-"

"Mm...something about this seems a little off." Nagisa said from his seat, pouting a bit.

The Iwatobi team had somehow talked Rin into a game of play, saying it was to give Rei and Y/N a taste of how they had first met the red head back in grade school.

"Zero points, more effort please." Rei critiqued, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

"Yeah, I don't know, you used to be more..." Makoto attempted to find the right words to say, while Haru yawned.

"Charming?" Y/N offered from where she was sitting in the middle of the room, glancing up from her phone which had absorbed her attention.

"That's the word!" Makoto grinned at the female.

Rin slammed his hand on the teacher podium and scowled at them. "Shut up, guys! You were the ones to put me up to this, whatever the hell this is!" He exclaimed, freezing as the door slid open to reveal Gou and Niitori.

"Hey! What are you guys messing around for?!" Gou shouted.

"Our group training session is scheduled to start any minute now!" Niitori added.

"Rin, you're too old to be playing around like this!" The red haired female scolded to her older brother.

Rin, in response, rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "They're the ones who were...never mind." He groaned softly.

"Well, best get going." Makoto smiled, grabbing his bag as he stood up.

"It's about high time I showed those guys what I can do after our first joint session that I am, in fact, not a rock." Rei grinned determinedly as he too stood up.

"Your butterfly better be good, man, because it's going to take a lot more than fancy words to smack talk all the Samezuka boys!" Rin smirked in a teasing manner.

"Sounds like you want to race!" Nagisa teasingly added in.

"You'll never beat us." Rin chuckled. "You better bring it! Haru! Y/N! Come on, let's get moving!" The red head called the two out as the blue eyed male seemed to be falling asleep, and the female was once more focused on her game.

The group then began to run out of the classroom and towards the Iwatobi pool, where the joint practice was to be held.

"So, are you going to continue to follow your father's dream?" Haru asked Rin.

"Nah, I have a dream of my own now. How about you?" Rin questioned as he turned to look at his friend.

Haru pressed his lips together, seeming to be thinking, though Rin smirked when noticing that his blue eyes were focused on the (H/C) beauty as she was being pulled by the hand by Nagisa. "Well, we'll just have to see." Haru playfully grinned.

The group all suddenly stopped running when three people stood in their way; two boys and one girl.

One of the males had shaggy black-purple hair and ruby red eyes, with a creepy grin on his face, while the other had semi-long white blond hair and gold eyes, with muscles that looked as if they could possibly rival Makoto's. The female had long white hair and golden eyes, she also wore a blood red fedora.

"Y/N, are you alright?" Nagisa whispered to the (H/C) female, who had a pained expression as she gripped at the cloth of her shirt that covered her heart.

"I'm fine." The female assured, smiling softly at the blond, before they both put their attention back onto the trio.

"Guardian of the Nami Key, we have been looking for you." The female said, taking a step forward as she had a hand on her hip.

Y/N's eyes widened, and she attempted to take a step back, but couldn't with Nagisa still holding her hand.

"Guardian of the what? Sorry, but you must have the wrong people." Rei was the first to speak up in a sassy tone.

"Shut up glasses boy." The blond haired male scoffed. "Well, which one is it, Princess?" He questioned, looking at the female.

The group seemed tense as the female's golden gaze wandered over them. "There she is." She gestured with her chin towards Y/N. As she began to walk towards her, Makoto, Rin, and Haru immediately stood in front of the (H/C) protectively, while Nagisa tightened his hold and hid her behind him. "Guardian of the Nami Key, tell your dogs to step aside. Or else I will be forced to set my own on them." She threatened.

Y/N noticed the seeming glow around the two males that accompanied the girl, and she had an instant guess of what might happen if she did not do what the other female said. "Guys, stop." She insisted.

"Y/N." Niitori whispered, looking shocked and confused as everyone else. Well, Haru and Makoto weren't shocked, but they were definitely confused.

"It's me that they're after. None of you will get hurt because of me." She insisted. "Nagisa, let me go." She told the blond.

"But, N/N-" Nagisa scrunched his eyebrows together, though hesitantly let go when the female shook her head.

"Who are you people, and what do you want from me?" Y/N asked, walking up to the white haired female.

"I am Emilia, this is Shiki and Mage." The female gestured towards the two males. "We want the Nami Key." She bluntly stated.

Y/N instinctively held onto the pendant on her chest. "Awa told me that there would be people like you attempting to steal the key." She stated.

"I apologize, but I don't know who that is." Emilia stated, before shrugging her shoulders. "Either way, we want it." She said, making a move to snatch the necklace from Y/N's neck.

Though, as she had done at the tournament, a sudden gust of energy left Y/N, causing her friends to stumble backwards, as well as the new enemies in front of her. Everyone behind Y/N gasped, and she wasn't sure if it was because of the power or because Emilia's hat had been knocked off, revealing two wolfish ears that flickered.

"Geez, I guess the cat is out of the bag now." Emilia sighed, before standing tall as she glared at the group. "Now, if you want to fight, then I will be more than happy to. As one guardian to another." She suddenly pulled out a necklace that looked similar to Y/N's, except it had a wolf carved into the key, and had a large white stone. "I must admit, though, that I am surprised to find you with...two legs. I had thought that perhaps you were just a lucky scuba diver, but, the key was hidden far below what air tanks would allow. So, there was just one other option as to what you were..." She spoke, beginning to stalk around Y/N, like a predator would to its prey.

"Exactly what are you implying?" Rin snapped, being the first to seem to get over the shock of what was going on.

Y/N bit her lip, before she narrowed her eyes and straightened her posture. "Then your theory is correct. I am Princess Y/N L/N, daughter of King Triton, of the merfolk." She stated. "And I demand that you and your friends leave at once." She told Emilia.

"My, my, another princess." Emilia's eyes seemed to glow in amusement. "Well, then I guess I should introduce myself properly as well. I am Princess Emilia Clinton, my father had been king of the werewolves, before my uncle murdered him and my mother and forced me into hiding." She stated and mockingly bowed.

"What you are saying is preposterous! There's no such thing as werewolves and mermaids!" Rei called out.

"Oh, are the ears not enough?" Emilia sarcastically questioned as she motioned to the top of her head. "Shiki, Mage, why don't you show them your powers? Perhaps they'll believe in a fallen angel and a devil more." She grinned.

The two males behind her grinned, and the male with dark hair suddenly had large black wings behind him, and Mage began to glow.

Y/N heard Gou scream, and she immediately stood in front of the red head as feathers from Shiki's wings came at the red haired female like arrows. She flinched and cried out as a few pierced her arms and face, but she stood her ground nonetheless.

"Your love for the humans make you weak, Princess Y/N. You'll have till tomorrow morning. If you do not give up the key, then I will be unable to stop them from hurting your friends." Emilia stated, walking back towards the other two.

And, with a flash of light, the trio vanished.

"Y/N!" Gou cried out as the (H/C) began to fall, though Haru had managed to catch her.

"What just happened?!" Niitori questioned, looking reasonably panicked.

"I'll explain...later..." Y/N attempted to move, but groaned as she soon could only see black cover her vision.

-Night-Haru's home-

The Iwatobi team, Niitori, and Rin all waited for the (H/C) to wake up. She had lost a lot of blood from the feathers that had pierced into her, and Gou had attempted her best to patch her up.

Everyone was doing their own thing; Haru, Makoto, and Nagisa had yet to leave the female's side, Nagisa holding onto her hand as he always did, Rei was leaning against a bookshelf, Rin was staring outside on the porch of Haru's home, and Niitori was sitting next to Gou as they attempted to not anger any of the others.

They all jumped when the (H/C) suddenly sat up with a cry, then her eyes immediately looked at the others as they filled up with tears, and she clung onto Nagisa.

"You have a lot of explaining to do!" Gou told the other female in a scolding tone. "What the heck happened back there?! And what did you mean when you called yourself a princess of mermaids!?" She demanded.

"Kou, she just woke up." Makoto told the red head with a frown.

"Well we all deserve to know, don't we? Especially since we just got threatened!" Rei exclaimed.

"Rei, calm down." Haru reprimanded.

"Why should I calm down?! Why are you so calm!? You've been living with a mermaid this whole time!" The megane practically shouted.

"Yes, I knew that." Haru nodded his head. "Makoto and I had known that Y/N was a mermaid since we brought her back from the islands." He admitted.

"And you never thought to tell any of us?" Nagisa questioned, a look of betrayal on his face. "Didn't you trust us, N/N?" He asked the (H/C), who looked away from him guiltily.

"I wanted to tell you and Rei and Kou, I promise I did. And it hurt me every time I had to pretend that I was something that I wasn't just to keep the secret from you guys." Y/N stated. "It just never seemed like the right time to tell you guys." She said.

"Putting the whole mermaid thing on hold, what the hell is this Nami Key they keep talking about?" Rin asked.

Y/N sighed and stood up, wobbling a bit, though Makoto had immediately caught her. Smiling at him thankfully, she went to the bookshelf Rei was leaning against and picked out the giant book that Makoto had given her before the festival.

"The Nami Key is what had turned me temporarily human. It's one of the keys from heaven, used to open the golden gates and keep hell locked up. There are eight in total; The Tsuki key, which is the one Emilia has, the Nami key, which I have, the Ningen key, the Kiba key, the Hebi key, the Hoshi and Taiyo key, and the Jikan key. When the angel Gabriel was created, she had become the personification of every key. And in order to keep the powerful objects from evil, God asked for the others gods to find someone to spread the keys. Poseidon, from Greek mythology, had the last survivor from the mythical Atlantis to distribute the keys to who the Atlantean thought were worthy." Y/N explained to the group as she sat at the coffee table and opened the book. "Humans and other beings have attempted to find the keys for centuries, but there has never been much luck. But, I think that Emilia has more resources than any of them did."

"You're not really going to give up the key, are you?" Niitori worriedly questioned. "What if they use it for evil purposes?"

"What else can I do? I can't let them hurt you guys!" Y/N exclaimed. "I'm going to become a mermaid again soon, anyways. So it won't be any loss to me if I just give up my time early." She insisted.

"I don't understand. Why would you be becoming a mermaid if that key gave you the power to become human?" Rei questioned.

"Even where I'm from, they say that certain power comes with certain prices. The Nami key has fourteen blue gems, but, they start to become pink. When all of them aren't blue anymore, I'm to turn into a mermaid again." Y/N explained to them.

"Haru and I have been looking for some way to be able to keep her human, but so far, the only option would have been for her to take off the necklace and hope that putting it back on will restart the cycle." Makoto told them with a grim expression.

"You guys also knew that she was going to turn back into a mermaid?!" Nagisa asked. "Were you going to lie to us then, too? How would you have explained her sudden disappearance?!" He shouted.

"Nagisa..." Rei murmured, as if attempting to calm him down.

"I just...thought that we were close." Nagisa sniffled.

Y/N slammed the book shut and closed her eyes tightly. "Tomorrow morning, I will give Emilia the Nami Key." She stated.

"You can't do that, Y/N!" Makoto insisted.

"What else can I do, Makoto?!" Y/N shouted, causing everyone to tense up. "Do you think that I don't want to be with you guys? Because then you'd be wrong! I want to continue being taught by Rei, and laugh with Nagisa, and talk to Kou. I want to keep trying new foods that Haru cooks, and be nagged by Makoto, and I want to be able to encourage Niitori and watch Rin's progress. I want to keep swimming by their sides as a human! I want to swim in a relay!" Tears splashed against the wooden table, the others watching with a look of sympathy. Y/N surprised them once more as she looked at them with a sudden genuine smile. "But I also want you all to continue doing what you love, and if that means I have to leave in order to protect your happiness, then I will." She stated, standing up as she gripped onto the key charm.

"But N/N!" Nagisa called out after her.

"I've made my decision and you can't change my mind. Please forgive me." Y/N sternly stated, before running out of the building.
