Chapter 14
It's been three days after that incident with the two strange men. Dancing became easier and I've gained a lot of flexibility and stamina from it. Our coach snaps her fingers to the beat, counting and calling out each step. It's been going on like this for hours until she finally claps her hands.
"That's enough. Get yourselves cleaned up. The competition is tomorrow. We don't want to miss that now do we?"
Breathing heavily, we both retire to our rooms. Closing the door to my room, I sagged against the wall and sigh. My hands twitched and my legs wouldn't stop shaking. Sweat beads rolled down my face and my hair was a mess. I wobbled over to the bathroom and washed myself off. I pulled on some comfortable clothes and slumped on my bed.
"Ugh..."
My legs were sore and my back was aching. I close my eyes and was almost about to fall asleep 'till I heard a knock on the door.
"Oh come on."
Pulling myself away from the comfort of my warm bed, I opened the door and there was a girl standing in front of me. She was around my height, curly beautiful brown hair and eyes, and she wore a dress that complimented her curves. She was one of my competitors in this event.
"Hi! I'm Ally and they asked me that you come join us for lunch."
"Ah thank you, but-"
"Great!!!"
She grabs me by the arm and I was already walking down the hall with her. She was a pretty positive person. She turns down a hallway and smiles at me.
"I'm so glad to finally meet someone who doesn't complain about their dance."
Oh you haven't seen me complain just yet. She suddenly stops and grabs me by the shoulder with a serious face. She inhales and says:
"I want you to be my friend!"
.....what? She asked me with such serious face that I couldn't help but laugh at her.
"What's so funny?"
"Sorry, you just asked me so suddenly. I barely know you and you suddenly want to be friends?"
"It's hard to make any friends with other arts around here. Most of them try not to because we're all rivals, but I really want someone to talk to."
"What about your dance partner?"
"I don't really talk much with him. I just want a girl to talk with you know?"
I can see why all these other people are competitive. There just one question I had though... I wonder if Ally knows.
"Hey Ally?"
"Hm?", she chirped in a happy tone.
"What happens to the arts who lose this competition?"
Right then and there she stops. We were almost there to the dining hall. She would grab her hands nervously and a look of sadness filled her eyes.
"It really depends on your master. An art will just be a loser, but sometimes the masters will get rid of their arts by butchering or incinerating."
All time seemed to stop there and all I could hear was my heart thumping rapidly. Sans wouldn't be the type to do that would he? My hands crept to my dress, clenching the soft fabric.
"And how do you know this?"
Ally looks down on the ground and her voice was quiet and her voice wavered.
"My mother was butchered...."
She turned to look at me. Her eyes almost wet in tears, but they never fell from her eyes. She would reach out to grab my dress.
"I just want a friend to be with....."
Then she looked at me eye to eye with fear in her eyes.
"I am afraid to lose this competition. I am afraid for my life."
So she also had the same fate as my mother. I wrap my arms around her fragile body and shushed her and rubbed her back in comforting circles.
"It's going to be okay. We're going to be in this together."
I looked past the doors to the dining hall and saw all the other arts mocking the others about how they'll make it to first place. All the masters are sitting at the table including Sans. He was busily talking and smiling with the other masters. The words had repeated in my head.
Together.
