Chapter 5: Trouble
"Paladins! Fight off as many Galra ships as you can with your drones while I try to get the Teludav ready for us to and get at least one more wormhole out of here!" Allura commanded. Everyone got to their stations and started opening their holo-screen to get the controls.
You watched helplessly in fear as they all struggled to keep the enemy at bay. Yes, you were scared but you wouldn't cry because you knew that wouldn't help at all.
"Y/n." You heard Lance call out to you. You turned in his direction and he flashed you a sweet smile. He waved you over and you quickly rushed to his side. "Come on, we're not going to leave you out this time." He picked you up so you could sit on his lap.
You were awestruck as you watched Lance work all the buttons and handles on the holo-screen in front of you. He looked like a pro!
"Watch out Pidge!" Lance pushed the right lever forward and shot down some ships that were about to shoot down the Green Paladin Drone.
"Thanks Lance!" Pidge grunted as she pulls back to avoid the heavy fire. "Allura, how are we doing with the Teludav?"
"We're almost there! We're going to try and make a bigger jump but..."
"We might destroy most of the Scaultrite lens stones." Coran Finished her sentence.
"It doesn't matter now, Coran start the Teludav!" Allura furrowed her eyebrows as she waited for the countdown.
You watched as the controls in front of you disappeared, you looked up at Lance not understanding what was going on.
"Hold on tight." He said with a wink. You did as he said and watched as you were all getting ready to go into what seemed like a black hole.
You felt your tears accumulating but you caught Keith glance back at you so you quickly wiped them away and put on a strong front.
"Go!" Shouted Allura. You watched as the mysterious black hole gets closer to the castle and you automatically closed your eyes with your hands covering them as well.
You peeked through your small fingers and you were surprised to see that everyone was instantly out of harm's way.
"Pretty cool right?" Lance said with his signature smile and a thumbs up. All of a sudden, you heard a thud, and Allura was on the ground.
"Princess!" Exclaimed Coran, rushing to her side. Your eyes went wide and you hopped out of Lance's lap and hurried over to Allura. "You've used to much power. Are you alright?" Coran asked concerned about her health.
"Mommy?" Your little eyebrows furrowed in worry. She weakly opened her eyes, making you and Coran sigh in relief.
"I'm-I'm going to be alright, there is no need to panic." She caressed your face sweetly. "We should be glad we got away in time and we are at a large distance from them."
"Yeah, um, guys, I hate to be the party pooper around here, really, but, we got away this time but will we be able to escape the next time they find us?" Asked hunk to no one in particular.
"That's true... I still don't understand how they keep finding us so quickly." Pidge pondered on the thought.
"Maybe they have a Voltron tracking device or something like that?" Hunk suggested. Everyone turned to look at Allura to see if she had anything to add to the theory but she looked away as if she didn't know what to do at the moment.
"Allura?" Shiro spoke up. She turned her gaze back to the paladins and took a deep breath.
"There...might be something I haven't mentioned before..." She began shyly.
"Mentioned? like what?" Lance asked, confused by her sudden statement.
"You see, the paladins before you all...consisted of my father and his friends."
"Woah, your dad was a paladin too?" Pidge said in amazement, interested in the new information.
"Yes, him along with...Zarkon." Allura looked away in shame.
"Zarkon?!" Everyone exclaimed in disbelief.
"Yes, he was the pilot of the black lion, and I think that is the way they've been able to track us." Allura said while trying to get back up on her feet with the help of Coran and supposedly you.
"So what should we do?" Shiro asked.
"You need to try and build a stronger bond with your lion, Shiro." She answered seriously.
"And while he does that, the rest of you will accompany me to buy more Scaultrite lens stones!" Announced Coran while twisting the tip of his mustache making you giggle.
"And where the heck are we going to get that?" Asked Hunk.
"The good thing is that we teleported near the 'Space Mall', there, we'll get exactly what we need."
"Alright team, you heard him, I'll go on ahead and see how I can strengthen my bond with my Lion, the rest of you, be careful." Shiro said as he walked out of the room.
"Good luck Daddy!" You shouted. The other Paladins looked over to Shiro and smirked, knowing that the new nickname still embarrassed him. With an awkward smile and a wave, Shiro was about to walk out but remembered something important he wanted to tell Keith, he placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "Try to give Y/n a chance Keith. Remember, she's just a kid and she was a prisoner of the Galra once, who knows what they might have done to her. They don't have mercy on anyone, not even children." Shiro said in a low voice so only Keith could hear him. He gave one last squeeze of his shoulder and he left.
Keith sighed and turned to look back at you and watched as you smiled happily with Allura. You were explaining in 'vivid detail' how Lance shot down a bunch of Galra ships.
Well, it was mostly you just using your hands like guns and saying things like Pow! Pow! Ba-choo! Ba-choo! Or Blam Blam Blam!
You were like a little ball of joy, cheering everyone up after a tense battle.
How can she smile like that after being put through so much?
Keith thought with his arms crossed over his chest.
You caught his stare and giggled with a toothy grin. Keith quickly looked away embarrassed.
"So let's get ready everyone, we'll be leaving in half a Varga!"
"Looks like we'll be spending some more time together Y/n."Allura said as she slowly got up. You raised an eyebrow in question and then looked back at the Paladins that were leaving.
"No!" You shouted, you then ran over to Keith and grabbed onto his leg.
"He-Hey! What the heck are you doing??" Keith had his arms up wishing you would let go.
"I want to go with them!" You said as your grip tightened.
"Are you sure Y/n?" Allura asked, not knowing if letting you leave the castle was a good idea.
"Don't worry Princess, she'll be alright." Coran tried to reassure her as he stood beside you and ruffled your hair. "She'll be with all of us! There's no way she could be in harm's way." Allura gave a questioning look but then sighed.
"And! I also made something for Y/n since everyone was worried about her getting hurt." Pidge added. Everyone turned to look at the brunette.
"What did you make?" Lance asked.
"This!" Pidge held out a small bracelet.
"A bracelet? Pidgey, buddy, even I can make a bracelet." Lance said obviously unimpressed.
"It's not just any bracelet. I used the same technology in the castles defense system to make this form a shield around the person who wears it. Watch!" Pidge pressed a button and instantly a round shield appeared around her like the one the castle has.
Everyone 'ooo!'ed in amazement.
"That way, even if something were to happen to Y/n, she can just defend herself with this!" Pidge said, obviously proud of herself. She walked over to you and strapped on the bracelet on your right hand but then noticed you also had another bracelet on.
"Huh, I never noticed you had this." Pidge looked at it along with the others. It was a simple silver bracelet with your name engraved on it. "Anyways, all you have to do to activate it is push the green button, and when you want to turn it off, just press it again." You nodded your head, understanding the easy instructions.
You pressed the green button and you were instantly in a sheld, you tapped it out of curiosity and watched in awe.
"Nothing can get in, but nothing can get out either." Pidge clarified. She got ahold of one of the wrenches she had at hand and threw it at you.
Everyone went wide-eyed and didn't expect Pidge to test it out that way, but thankfully the shield held up and you were fine, well, you really couldn't say the same thing for Lance since the wrench bounced off and ended up hitting his arm.
"Hey!" He complained as he rubbed the sore spot while the others only chuckled.
"This is amazing! Well done Pidge! Alright, you may go along as well Y/n, but please keep an eye on her, we don't want you getting hurt now don't we?" She sent you a kind smile. "Be on your best behavior Y/n." She added as a mother would say to her child.
"Okay mommy!"
~
"Alright, so everyone be on high alert!" Coran said as he looked around the Mall suspiciously. But it just seemed like a regular mall to you. Was there really anything to worry about? "We'll meet back here in exactly one Varga!" Everyone nodded their heads in agreement.
"Wanna come with me Y/n?" Lance asked you with his arms extended towards you. You blinked a few times before looking around and your gaze landed on
"Keef!" You rushed over to him and stood by his side.
"Awww But why him??? Don't you want to walk around with Lancy Lance?" He pouted feeling rejected by you.
"You just want her so you can pick up girls." Pidge clarified. Lance gasped with a hand on his chest looking hurt by her assumption.
"No! Of course not! I just want to spend some quality time with her!"
Meanwhile, you were looking at Keith to wait for his response. Mullet boy on the other hand...didn't really know what to do, he was never good with children, let alone know how to take care of one. But then Shiro's words rang in his head.
'Remember to give Y/n a chance.'
Keith groaned internally, knowing he had to listen to him.
"Look, I'm fine with her tagging along, we just gotta find the Scaultrite lens stones and get out of here right? Then let's get moving." Keith then started walking in the other direction and you took that as a yes, so you quickly made your way over to walk by his side. You looked back and watched as the others also went their separate ways.
Now it was just you and Keith.
You were a bit nervous seeing so many different creatures and also stared in awe at the weird things they sold. There were food places, clothes shops, games and so much more. You would occasionally see wanted posters of people taped to the walls too. You noticed you were falling a bit behind and you jogged over to Keith and took his hand, not wanting to get lost in a place like this.
Keith jumped a bit in surprise at the sudden contact. He watched as you would look around with curious eyes, he was about to say something about the hand holding but just let it slide.
He turned his attention back to the task at hand and tried to look for what they came here for in the first place, but there were so many things, he didn't even know where to start.
This is going to be a long day...
