Chapter 32: Falling to Pieces
"What the hell happened here?" Keith wondered as you both entered what was left of the main building. You couldn't take it anymore, you let go of Keith and rushed inside.
"Kolivan!" You shouted as you zoomed around the building that was in shambles. You could hear coughing coming from a corner under the debris.
"Hello?" You called out. You started removing the rocks, Keith helping you out once he caught up. It was a man, he was obviously injured and losing blood fast.
"Are you the paladins by any chance?" Was the first thing he asked. You quickly nodded your head and started helping him up once the rocks were off of him. "Kolivan, he was in the control room." He pointed towards what used to be a doorway.
"You go on ahead, I'll get this guy to safety," Keith assured, you gave him a curt nod and flew off to find your old friend without a second thought.
"Kolivan!" You shouted. You hear various groans, maybe two or three people more and of course you had to stop and at least help them out from under the rocks. Each one of them kept pointing you in Kolivans direction.
You zoomed past every hallway and room desperate to find him. "Kolivan!" You shouted again and again. As you flew by you noticed something hanging out from under a boulder making you come to a halt.
"No..." You breathed and rushed to his aid, recognizing those tattoos from anywhere. "Don't worry Kolivan I'm gonna get you out of here!" You tried moving the boulder but to no avail.
"Y/n?" You could hear his faint voice. You couldn't move the stone by yourself but thankfully it was only crushing his right arm, the rest of him was scratched up but still alive and moving.
"I made it, Kolivan, don't worry I'll get you out of here." You struggled to find a way to get him out of there, maybe blasting the bolder would work but that would only put him in danger.
"Y/n." He called out weakly.
"I can do this I can do this!" Kolivan could tell you were starting to panic.
"Y/n, it's no use." He tried to reason with you but you shook your head furiously as a child would.
"No! I'm gonna save you!"
"Y/n I can't feel my arm, it's long gone." You crouched down to him, feeling the tears starting to burn your eyes, threatening to fall.
"I didn't make it in time, I'm sorry..."
"Don't blame yourself, Y/n, we were outnumbered." You could hear Keith's jetpack as he rushed in seeing what was unfolding.
"Kolivan..." Keith breathed seeing his sorry state.
"Please just make it quick." He turned his face away from his right arm and you knew what he was asking for. You could feel the color drain from your face. You opened your mouth to decline but nothing came out.
"I'll do it." Keith spoke up and walked over to you and held you by your shoulders to make sure you understood him. "Wait outside, and cover your ears." He kissed the crown of your head and turned away.
You felt an uneasiness in your stomach along with a cold sweat and quickly rushed out of the room without a second thought. You took advantage of the time you now had and helped the others that were injured, but that didn't stop you from hearing the faint cries of your dear friend.
-
"Once Bellox and Ezran were revealed, the others that were going undercover here at the base couldn't take their chances and attacked, only a few were able to survive." You looked back at the few people you tended to and then brought your attention back to Kolivan.
"Do you by any chance know what happened to the castle?" You asked just in case. He let out a sigh and shook his head. "When we were attacked It seems they were attacked as well. We lost communication and we don't know what has happened to them." You turned to Keith who was lost in thought probably trying to think up a plan.
"But on the bright side, we have another base not too far from here and from the information I received of what's left of the radio, the undercover Elox's were taken care of over there so we can head over there for more fighters."
"Right let's get going." You looked at the rest of the people in the room with your hands on your hips. "So whos riding with-" You were cut short when you started to recognize one of the men in the group. He initially was covered in blood and in bad shape but after being in the healing chair in your lion you only just not noticed who he was.
Your eyes went wide and you could see that he realized you finally recognized him. "You bastard." You breathed and swiftly took out your Bayar, turning it into a handgun, pointed at his head making him suck in a breath.
"Y/n, what are you doing!" Keith was about to intervene but you held up your hand.
"Looks like one of the traitors survived." You loaded your gun seeing the teal glow slowly get brighter as it charged up.
"Wait we can get information!" Kolivan was about to stand up but the pain in what's left of his right shoulder made him think it was best if he didn't.
"Y/n, let's talk this out." Keith tried to reason with you.
"These bastards won't talk, they're the kind of people that would die before revealing any information." You spat. "How about I start off by shooting your leg, let you know how I felt."
You pulled the trigger but Keith pushed your gun to a side making you miss. "What the hell was that for!" You shouted getting pissed.
"Y/n, don't revert back to the murderous person you were before!" You looked at him in shock, completely taken off guard by his bluntness. "let's find out another way to-"
"He's the reason I have a prosthetic leg!" Keith was left speechless, it took him a few ticks to process what you said. Memories from back then all the screaming, the crying, the agony you had to go through, started to come back.
He furrowed his eyebrows in anger.
"You bastard." Keith snarled, ready to knock the living daylights out of this guy as he raised his fist.
"Wait wait! Please!"
"Oh, so the cockroach can actually talk." Venom laced each of your words as you grabbed him by his collar.
"Please! I wasn't the one to cut your leg off! If anything I was the one who sneaked the anesthetics in!" He tried to defend in hopes that you would spare his life. You were about to respond but flashes of that day came back.
He wasn't the only one there when that happened.
You lowered your gun and thought before acting for once. "You were the one with the needles." You mumbled mostly to yourself.
"I'm a double agent. I was sent to the Elox's by commander Gnak."
"He's one of the more secluded bases." Commented Kolivan recognizing the name.
"Yes, and that day when I saw you there I knew you were one of the paladins but I couldn't blow my cover, all I could do was make it less painful."
You let out a sigh, once you let him go he bowed, his head hung low in shame. "I'm greatly sorry." You loosened your grip on your bayard and took a deep breath.
"What's in the past is in the past as long as you're on our side." You extended your hand making him raise his eyebrows somewhat surprised at how quickly you forgave him. He cautiously grabbed your hand and you gave him a firm shake. You gripped his hand a bit tighter than necessary and leaned so you were sure he would hear you loud and clear.
"You do anything suspicious or even think about betraying us, I'm gonna be the one to blast your head off with this very gun." He looked absolutely terrified and nodded his head quickly.
"Good." You let go of him and you lifted your gun making him scared again. You quickly shot a wall not too far from you all a few times making it crumble to the ground, shooting small pebbles everywhere as if there wasn't enough already.
Keith was utterly confused as to why the hell you would do that. "What? I still had pent up anger, I needed to let it out somehow." You shrugged and started walking towards your lion. "Alright let's go!"
