Chapter 23: What are you waiting for?

"How's everything going Y/n?" Shiro asked through his communicator.

"Just as planned. Everything Lotor has told us so far has been spot on." You said as you made your way through the Galra base halls on planet Invion.

"Just stay alert," Shiro advised.

"Yeah, you never know if it's really just a trap." Added Keith.

"Right..." Was all you answered.

It's been about a week since the kiss and you decided to keep a bit of distance from Keith. He understood and didn't really pressure you into talking to him but he still felt bad and wondered how long this would last. All the while you thought that right now wasn't the time for relationships, you already had too much in your mind.

"I'm at the control panel. Pidge, you got that code?" You asked removing a plate of metal from the wall to get to the main wires.

"Yeah, I just got it decoded. Sending it now." And right at that moment, the file was received to your paladin uniform. Taking out a small cable from the forearm of your armor, you contacted it to the power source and almost immediately, everything was shut down.

"Done. I'm heading out." You said quickly removing the cable and sprinting down the halls.

"Your lion is waiting for you on the northeast side." Instructed Lance.

"Roger that." Right as you were about to turn a corner there was a Galran soldier with a gun at hand.

"Freeze!" He yelled at you. You simply scoffed and turned your Bayard into two daggers.

"Yeah right." You readied yourself.

"No casualties!" Keith warned through the helmet communicator. You sighed in response.

"I know I know." You furrowed your eyebrows at the fact that you couldn't let out your frustration on something else other than the practice robots at the castle.

"You guys got lucky." You muttered and then ran forward as if you were to attack but instead you faked a right and went left to escape.

"Systems are down, the rest is up to you Shiro. I'm heading back to the blade." You assured and made your way out without any problems.

Lately, you've been hanging around at the blade more often because you still had a lot to do and you wanted to go back to your training with Ezran and Bellox.

And let's face it, you missed them.

You also used that as an excuse to not talk to Keith. He was obviously a distraction you didn't need.

"Y/n, before you go, there are some things we wish to add to the castle but we need your guidance." Said Allura as she readied the equipment.

"Sure thing Allura." You turned around and headed towards the sky. "I'm gonna be late today guys. The castle is calling me over." You said through the communicator.

"No problem Y/n." Answered Bellox.

"We'll be waiting for you to come back!" Cheered Ezran. You couldn't help but smile, they were always supportive of anything and everything you did.

You landed your Lion in the hanger and took off your suite and got into something more comfortable. Once you were done, you made your way down the hallways and towards the bridge.

"Hey, Allura." You greeted as you walked over to her, Shiro and Lotor.

"Y/n, we need your help." She said. You nodded your head and looked around.

"Where are the others?" You asked.

"We're right here!" Pidge smiled through the camera showing her at the control room of the castle with Hunk.

"They're in the Central Energy Chamber." Added Lotor with a smile to which you returned. You then turned your attention back to the screen.

"Hey guys!" You waved seeing that they were busy as ever. "What's up?"

"We wanted to make a few modifications to make the castle faster." Said Pidge while pushing up her glasses on the bridge of her nose.

"Yeah! We want it to be a lot more powerful like the ones The Blades have!" Added Hunk with a big grin towards the screen earning a chuckle from you.

"Sure thing, but I think Bellox is better at this kind of thing than me, I'll call him up and-" All of a sudden the screen started glitching.

"What's going on?" You asked and looked towards Allura.

"I'm not sure." She said as she started tapping on the holo-screen.

"Y/n? - Wha- Go- n- wi- sccrr-." You headed over to the controls to try and see if you could help out.

"I don't understand what's wrong, everything was working just fine before." Said Allura as she tried to get the signal back. Then the screen just went black.

"What the-" You were cut off when Zarkon's face suddenly appeared on the screen.

"Hello, pathetic little paladins. I see you managed to get your hands on that small creature." He said in his deep voice as he glared daggers at you, only making Lotor stand in front of you as if you needed protection.

"What do you want." Lotor was the first to ask.

"Ah, my wretched son, are you done playing games?" You raised an eyebrow in suspicion. You could see from the corner of your eye, Pidge, Hunk, and Lance appear.

"I asked, what do you want." He spat, not liking the fact that Zarkon was trying to pin him against you.

"Fine, I'll get right to the point. She has something I want, and I have something one of you have been looking for." Your hands gripped at your sides.

"What are you talking about?" You asked through gritted teeth.

"I just thought the little one might like to see her father again." He then moved to aside to reveal the old witch haggard with Sam Holt tight in her grip. You could hear Pidge gasp in the background.

"Dad..." She breathed as she walked closer towards the screen to get a better look.

"You bastard." You cursed under your breath.

"You give me the coordinates White Paladin and I'll hand him over, a fair trade I'd say." Zarkon gave you a smirk. Anger nor hatred couldn't even begin to describe how you felt. "You have 3 Vargas to make your decision, I'll be waiting on planet Dibazal, and if you don't make it, he loses his life." And with that, the transmission ended and the screen went back to normal.

All eyes were on you.

"Well?" Asked Pidge taking you out of your train of thought.

"Well, what?" You barely mumbled.

"Y/n, where are the coordinates?" She asked you with pleading eyes.

"This is a trap and you know it." You hated being on the opposite side with her but you had to tell her the truth.

"Of course I do but we need something to give us time so we can get him back." She looked determined as ever but you knew that she wouldn't understand.

"I..."

"Y/n, you seriously can't be considering letting my dad die!" Pidge shouted at you suddenly making you flinch. "This is the closest we've ever gotten to getting him back if you had the chance to get your parents back wouldn't you take it?!"

"Pidge calm down, we should think this through and-" Shiro tried to reason but was interrupted.

"No!" She yelled at him and then turned back to you. "We're running out of time, we need those coordinates now!" She took a step forward making you move back and instinctively your left hand flew to your wrist.

Pidge noticed this and looked at the bracelet.

You knew you made the wrong move.

"Y/n." She pleaded.

"We can find another way." You tried to reason with her.

"Why don't we give him fake coordi-" Lance began but was cut off.

"He would notice that very instance." Lotor answered, not really helping you, but what he said was true.

"But we can't give him this! If he finds out where the unlimited quintessence is-"

"We can plan that out and intercept him, we'll think of something!" Pidge was getting hysterical. Shiro took a step towards you.

"Y/n, you don't need to carry this burden, if you would just tell us we can-"

"No! You guys don't know what's going to happen once he gets this, it'll be the end for all of us. Please, let's find another way." You watched as everyone started taking careful steps towards you but you moved out of the way and was about to make a run for it but you ended up bumping into Keith.

You looked at him wide-eyed when he got a good grip on your arms.

"Y/n, let's try and figure this out, we can't have you running away from this." He tried to convince you but before you could even respond, you felt a sharp pain in your side, making you fall unconscious.

"This is the only way." Said Lotor as he retracted the taser and put it away.

"You didn't have to hurt her!" Keith argued as he gently laid you on the ground.

"And what other idea did you have in mind? Try and convince her? Even you know that would be futile." He then kneeled and took a hold of your wrist. He examined the bracelet as everyone started gathering around. He clicked it open and took out the old paper and handed it to Allura just to make sure that they wouldn't think he's trying to betray them.

Allura carefully took it in her hand and opened it up.

"Hidden in plain sight," Allura said looking rather disappointed at the situation. "We have 2 Vargas and 30 Dobashis left. Let's prepare for war."
