Chapter Five

On our final night of freedom, we go out for the evening. Blake lays sprawled across the bed with the television softly playing in the background. From the noise emitting from the speaks, it sounds like a sporting television show.

When I complete my makeup, I leap onto the bed and snuggle beside Blake. He wraps an arm around my neck and moves to kiss my cheek.

"You, baby, you take my breath away." He sighs.

Blake's finger twirls around a strand of loose brown hair, then he lightly tugs on it. When a small sigh escapes my lips, Blake lets go of my hair.

"Thank you so much." I rub my nose against his.

Blake's lips gently brush against mine. I lean into the kiss as he cups my face with his hand. My heart flutters as my toes curl.

"Have you decided what we're going to tell our friends?" Blake squeezes my hand.

"I think we should tell people." I nod. "While it would be fun to have a surprise, I also don't want to keep secrets for our friends."

I glance at the ring and smile, it's too beautiful to hide.

"You are amazing, thank you."

Blake's arm wraps around my waist, tugging me to his chest. His kisses my cheek, then work towards my neck. I feel his hand trail down the curve of my back and under the material of my top.

"If we don't leave now, we'll never get there," I murmur between kisses.

"Hm, yes, we should go."

We climb off the bed and swiftly exit the bedroom before Blake's hormones get the better of him. Blake locks the front door while I jump into the driver's seat and start the engine.

The drive to the pub is short but nice, I take the scenic tour past the beachfront. Blake's thumb rubs over my knee until I find a parking spot outside of the building. Then he leaps out of the car and rushes around to open the door.

I pocket the keys and take Blake's hand as we walk to the pub. When we get inside, I spot Ben and Axel cozying up to each other, while Kyle is rolling his eyes with disgust.

When Kyle sees us, he races across the pub and scoops me into his arms.

"Save me from being the third wheel."

"Naw boo, this is what I have to deal with all the time

"Do they really suck face this much? You'd think the pair would calm down already." Kyle frowns.

"No, they're worse." I sigh.

Kyle continues to shiver at the thought, "That's gross."

"It's a good thing I've come to save the day then." I giggle. "You can the third wheel with Blake and I."

"You do know Blake is always the third wheel with us." Kyle winks.

"It's beginning to feel like," Blake chirps. "Let me grab us some drinks."

Blake kisses my cheek before wandering to the bar. I hook my arm through Kyle's and walk back to the table. We greet Ben and Axel before they go back to chatting about something sexual.

"So, where's Charlotte? I thought she'd be here to save the day."

"Charlotte's still up and down about things and she thought spending time with Tori and London might be fun."

"Oh." I nod. "That sounds nice."

"They were going to invite you, but Blake mentioned how you were feeling-"

"Don't worry about it." I smile.

"Don't say that." Kyle pokes my stomach. "You make me worried when you say things like this. I don't want to see you spiraling."

"Please, shh, I won't spiral out of control because I have something to tell you."

"You're pregnant again, aren't you?" Kyle groans.

"What, why do people keep assuming that?"

Before Kyle comments, Blake returns with a pitcher of beer and plastic cups. He places it on the table and moves to stand beside me.

"The beer is for everyone."

"Wow, why is Blake being so generous?" Ben asks.

Blake shoots Ben a distasteful look because of his comment.

"I don't think that's supposed to be surprising." Axel hits Ben in the chest which makes him moan.

"Do you want to tell them?" asks Blake.

"No, it's okay, you can."

"Come on, what's going on?" Kyle demands.

"We're getting married!" Blake grabs my hand and shows off the sparkly ring.

Kyle's jaw drops with shock, then he's leaping into my arms and we're swinging around in circles.

"My best friend is getting married, oh my gosh! This is so bloody exciting."

When Kyle places me on the ground, his happy attitude is stripped away as he approaches Blake.

"You better take good care of Ava or I will kill you." Kyle glares at Blake before wrestling him into a hug.

Axel hugs us while Ben hangs to the side, weary about the engagement. Ben is the equivalent to Kyle, except he turned out gay. Kyle at least made the effort to be friends with Blake, Ben, on the other hand, he's never going to forgive me for hurting Blake.

"Have you picked a date? What did your parents say? Why wasn't I with them? I thought we were family?" Kyle interrogates me.

From the corner of my eye, I see Ben chatting with Blake which makes me nervous.

"I'm sorry, Kyle. It was all a surprise, and I had no idea." I half-lie.

"How were your parents?"

"They're already planning the wedding, actually."

"So you're looking to get married straight away?"

"Apparently." I nod. "Yes, I am happy about this. Getting married feel right, the same kind of right I feel about Blake."

"I'm happy that you're happy."

Kyle demands to heart the proposal while Axel and Ben get Blake intoxicated with their unlimited source of drinks.

It isn't long until Blake is well on his way and stumbling from side to side. As Blake grabs the beer glass, he splashes some onto the floor.

Kyle looks at Blake and shakes his head, "You should probably take him home."

"Yes, I should do that before he's kicked out."

Before I leave, Kyle holds my hand and squeezes it tightly.

"I'm really happy for you guys. I know he'll take good care of you and -"

"Don't worry." I tackle Kyle into a hug. "I will always need you."

"Thank you, because I'll always need you. But right now, it looks like Blake is going to fall on his face and you can't have that."

"Come on, Blakie." I reach out for his hand.

Axel wraps his arm around Blake's waist and walks out of the pub. I wave to the boys before chasing after them.

Axel and I weave through the carpark until I find my car wedged between two larger ones. Somehow, Axel manages to throw Blake's large frame into the back of the car.

"Thank you for helping." I smile.

"It's no drama and it's kind of my fault he's a little drunk." Axel rumbles with laughter.

"Anyways, have a good night! I suppose I'll see you tomorrow if not tonight?" I tease.

"Possibly." Axel shrugs his shoulders. "Ben is getting clingy and I think he wants a relationship which can't happen."

"Oh." I sigh. "He's going to be heartbroken."

"I know." Axel exhales. "Enough about me. I'm thrilled for you. Though, I'll always wish you were mine."

"Uh?" I gasp.

"You're unique; few in between."

"Well then, thank you."

Before things can get any more awkward, Axel retreats to the pub and I leap into the driver's seat. Blake lays across the back seat moaning about how much he loves me.

When we arrive home, I help Blake out of the car. He somehow trips over the car buckle and lands on the grass. He gets up and wanders to the front door like nothing happened.

I unlock the door and we go inside. He incoherently mumbles something before flopping onto the bed. Blake is sprawled across the middle and cocoons himself inside of the blanket.

Taking my shoes off, I change into my pajamas and flop onto the bed beside Blake. He wraps his arm around my waist and snuggles his face into my neck.

"Mhm, my soon to be Mrs. Rivers," he murmurs. "I can't believe you said yes, I can't believe you picked me."

"I will always pick you."

The past has been rough, but it's only proven that Blake and I are meant to be, that no matter what happens, we'll find our way back to each other.
