Chapter 50
Why do the kind ones always gets hurt first?
Why does pain stay for as long as you'd let it stay?
When you can forgive but you don't- why?
Why should we bow to other people's wishes when we can't even think of your own?
Why did it always have to hurt when someone leaves? Why can't tears prevent themselves from falling?
Why can't you just let it go when it's time to let go?
How can humans be cruel sometimes?
How can they be cruel sometimes?
Ezri watched at the corner as Isabella slowly fell apart. It was like watching glass slowly falling down to its inevitable end. She curled in on herself, as if she was trying to keep the world out, leaving her to her own dark and pathetic world. How many more can she do before she finally breaks? How many more pain can she live in before she finally snaps?
Ezri watched because that was the only thing he could do. He could only watch as she breaks herself over and over again for someone who was at fault, not her. He could only watch but not mend the shattered glass.
He wanted to mend what's broken but how could you fix what's broken when you're broken as well?
Ezri slowly walked towards her and gently raised her head from the cold floor. Her eyes were filled with tears. In Isabella's perspective, he was probably blurred. The young man sighed before pulling her closer and placing her head on his shoulder. It looked like she didn't even notice who he was. She just cried and clinged onto him without any care for the people outside. She was just in her own little bubble. Ezri hurriedly wrapped his arms around her, wanting nothing more than to help her hide from the world. From the pain. From the nightmares.
Why was the world so cruel?
Ezri was like Isabella. Broken. Shattered. A person with no one but themselves to count on. People who plays in a dangerous game, not even knowing that they're not even the players. They're just pieces of a game.
Why can't they live for themselves? Why can't they choose for themselves? Where was the freedom? When will the lies stop?
When will it just stop?
When will it turn quiet? For once, just once, let it be silent because he doesn't know how long he can take any more of the strings that's attached to him like a marionette that's only being played on a stage.
Being played.
Being a puppet.
A piece used in a game.
If he could finish it all then he would, but he's too scared to go.
He's too scared to leave. He's scared to finish himself. He's scared to be a disappointment to a lot of people. He's too scared to leave Isabella yet. He's scared that if he leaves Isabella, she might be all alone.
He's too scared.
And that's where the difference is between him and Isabella becomes visible.
Isabella can hop from one pain to another and would still be looking forward despite getting hurt. She would still look ahead into the future with tears streaming down her face. She would. She could. Because she learned how to cope with it. She learned how to express it. She learned how to cry.
To let it all out.
To scream it all out when it becomes too much for her to handle.
But Ezri can't do that. He can't just scream it all, it would be ridiculous. He can't cry. He can't cry because he's supposed to be a puppet. Puppets don't cry. They're controlled. They're supposed to make people happy. They're supposed to smile. He's supposed to smile- he's supposed to be happy.
Because that's his role.
He can't move on like Isabella, he can't look forward, because there's no future for him to look forward to. He's chained by the strings. He's chained by the person controlling the strings. He would always be stuck in the past. He would always be stuck in whatever game someone will play because he's just a pawn.
His embrace tightened on Isabella as he started to rock her gently. "Just stay here with me, mi sol." he whispered, willing himself to stay strong for her. He took a shuddering breath out as he lightly kissed the crown of her head gently. "Let's just stay here."
(My sun.)
Let's just stay somewhere where nobody could hurt us. Let's just sleep forever, Isabella, because what's the point of everything at this point? Everyone has either turned their backs against us or has been using us until now. Let's just sleep for a very long time, Isabella. Please.
"But I can't..." She trailed off and his heart ached painfully inside his chest.
Please. Why do you keep slipping from my grasp?
Ezri would have given up if he were her. It was out of her control, after all. When will Isabella notice that enough was enough?
"You already did everything." He stated almost too harshly. "Night, morning, evening, afternoon. Everyday, you tried. And when you failed, you tried again and again and again. Even if it was painful. Even if you were tired. Even if you had no more tears left to shed. You didn't give up on them but they still gave up on you."
Enough is Enough, Isabella.
"It's their turn to put some effort. So enough, Isabel. Please. Just stop. Enough and just stay here with me."
Just stay with me.
_____
When Isabella ran away from Nicolai, Ezri was watching. For Nicolai, it would probably look like she was mad at him but for Ezri, it looked as though her life shattered the moment she opened her mouth to talk.
There was just too many stories that's left unsaid. Too many years that disappeared between them. They could have been happy but Nicolai was just like Ezri. A marionette.
"Wow, you made her mad." Ezri said, causing Nicolai to flinch but then glare at him.
Nicolai's eyes were red from trying to hold back the tears but he glared at Ezri. "Fuck, you look just like her." Nicolai said mockingly, pinching the bridge of his nose. The most annoying one of all came, Nicolai thought.
Ezri gave him an amused look, a smile slowly forming on his lips. Nicolai acting like he had control over the situation was completely hilarious for Ezri.
"You shouldn't have followed her here." Ezri strode towards Nicolai with controlled grace, his cold gaze unwavering, showing no signs of emotions in those eyes of his.
"That's none of your damn business!" Nicolai hissed, glaring dangerously at Ezri. "Why the fuck would you care if I followed her or not. You and I are both here for the same reason."
For the same reason.
Ezri hummed, neither an affirmation or denial.
They are there for the same reason.
Nicolai ran his hand through his locks in frustration. "Fuck." He mumbled in annoyance.
"You should have let me finish the job." Ezri said after a while of silence. He looked at his hand in thought before looking back at Nicolai. "That's what I'm here for, isn't it?"
"The reason why you're fucking here is to just see Isabella." Nicolai barked in anger.
Ezri raised a brow questioningly. "That's not true."
Nicolai laughed, throwing his head back, all mocking and filled with malice. "Right." He said sarcastically. "You're not here because of her."
Ezri narrowed his eyes this time. "I came because I was ordered to. What do you think I came here for, Nicolai?" He crossed his arms.
"Because you're Isabella's fucking twin, that's why!"
As quick as a viper, Ezri immediately grabbed Nicolai's collar and pinned him at the nearby wall with a loud thud. Ezri's eyes weren't the aloof or the kind one that he usually had. No, this was the real Ezri.
With his eyes always filled with unexplainable anger that boils throughout his entire body like fuel. The agressiveness that was like a sharp knife to anybody who would experience it. A mask with different types of people that he could impersonate without a care.
A fake.
A deceiver.
A manipulative asshole.
A puppet.
A brother.
Nicolai chuckled, despite knowing that Ezri could wrap his hands around his neck in a heartbeat and kill him without anyone even noticing.
"You're here, not because of the plan. You're here because of her." Nicolai choked out, fear swirling in the pits of his stomach. Ezri was a killer. He would kill and he won't feel a thing. His hands were tainted with sins. He was dripping in it.
Nicolai reveled at the wavering anger in Ezri's eyes. He laughed. So even a bastard has their weaknesses.
"You're here because you want to see your twin."
Ezri knew he couldn't deny that. He wanted his sister. He wanted to see his sister. He had been lonely for a very long time. Couldn't he just wish to see a sister that have been born at the same day as his?
Ezri growled before letting go of Nicolai. "You've hurt her enough."
"You're going to hurt her too. Someway or another. You've got a knack for it." Nicolai laughed, trying to smoothen his disheveled shirt. "And I'll be there to watch it."
