One | I've Not Learnt That Skill Yet
Hope didn't know what she wanted to be when she was older, she loved to dance but wasn't sure if she could see herself being a dancer as a job, she looked up to her mother Arizona Robbins and thought she might like to be a pedestrian or maybe just a normal doctor but she had time to decide, she was only 13, she was still in school, she wasn't even graduating yet so she didn't have to worry, yet she was worried, she was home schooled and spent her days doing her school work around Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital and dancing at her dance academy.
Today was no different, she was sat on a bed in the tunnles at the hospital, laptop opened with her tutor talking and she was making notes on some sort of Chemistry assignment she was to complete and submit by the following Friday. She wasn't really paying attention but what she had wrote down would be enough for her assessment to be completed.
"Hope are you listening?" Hope's chemistry tutor asked which caused the teenager to roll her eyes.
"Yes I'm listing, you told me I have to write an assignment on crude oils due next Friday. I can't write down and look at you at the same time. I've not learnt that skill yet" Hope said with attitude, her chemistry tutor always asked if she was listening when she's writing things down and it was starting to get on her nerves.
"Less of the attitude Hope!" Her tutor said sounding annoyed which made her frown.
"I'm sorry but you ask if I'm listing all the time. When I can't look at you and make notes at the same time. It's not possible. At least not possible for me" Hope stated folding her arms and ended the video call, she shut her laptop and threw her notebook onto the bed beside her
"You okay Hope?" Lexie asked sitting on the bed which was beside Hope.
"I'm great, probably going to be in trouble with Mom but my chemistry tutor was doing my heading" Hope laughed lightly
"What did your teacher do?" Lexie asked curiously.
"It's just every single lesson she expects me to be able look at her and take notes so I kind of just said something to her which probably wasn't a good idea" Hope said biting her lip.
"Hope Robbins what did you say?" Lexie asked which made Hope grin.
"I basically just said I hadn't learnt the skill of looking at her while writing and kinda ended the call with like half an hour left of the lesson" Hope explained with a shrug
"Your mom will probably hear about that soon. Maybe you should find her and explain what happened before she hears from your tutor" Lexie suggested to Hope who sighed, she knew the older woman was right but she also knew that her mom was busy, she was in surgery on a 4 year old boy, Hope had kept the boy company earlier that week, his mom had to drive to his grandparents house where his younger twin sisters were and she didn't want to leave him so Hope offered to sit with him.
"She's in surgery right now, so I'm good for at least a hour or so and besides I have maths work to do and that will take me forever" Hope said looking to the pile of work she had. She didn't have to complete it all that day, the pile was for the week but Hope often completed almost all of it by Wednesday afternoon. Her schedule often only consisted of video calls with her chemistry tutor since that's the subject she struggles with the most, all her other tutors are fine with her just emailing or clicking send on the work when she's completed it.
Mondays She has chemistry, Maths, Biology and English.
Tuesday she has French, German and Physics and then dance.
Wednesday she has Maths Geography, English and social studies
Thursday she has science (she can choose which she wasn't to do) History, German, Anatomy and then dance
Fridays she has English, maths and French
"What is your maths work today?" Lexie asked Hope
"Algebra, I hate it" groaned Hope as Meredith and Cristina both came into the tunnels and sat down on the bed which Lexie was on.
"Derek kicked me off the case" Meredith ranted. Hope decided she should leave, she didn't want to intrude when Meredith is ranting about her boyfriend kicking her off a case
"I'll leave you guys to talk, you don't need a thirteen year old around" Hope said placing her books onto her laptop.
"You've heard it all before, plus you give the best advice so you can stay" Meredith smiled to the teen who smiled, all the residents and interns have helped her learn and grow as a teenager, Lexie helped her with her languages and she's also helped her when she's had performances with the drama academy she attends on Saturdays
Hope also found it incredible that Lexie had a photographic memory which made her the best person to rehearse lines with.
"Are you sure?" Hope asked turning to look at the three adults on her right side
"Positive" Meredith nodded.
"So why did Derek kick you off the case? Is it part of some lovers tiff?" Hope said once again not thinking about what she was saying.
"I'm sorry, that just came out. Seems to be a problem of mine today" Hope quickly apologised.
"It's only a question we were all thinking" Cristina pointed out
"He didn't like the way I spoke to a paitent in front of her daughter but I was just stating a fact" Meredith said rolling her eyes.
"Well if it was a fact then I don't understand what the problem is. Surely it can't be that bad what you said?" Hope said looking confused towards Meredith.
"I kind of let out that she had cancer but her daughter didn't know but how am I meant to know she didn't know" Meredith explained and Hope nodded.
"Then technically it's not your fault. Your not a mind reader, you haven't learnt that skill yet, just like I haven't learnt to look at my chemistry tutor while writing" Hope smirked making Meredith and Cristina give her a strange look. Hope often said random things and it often made people laugh, she liked that.

Hope had been wandering around the hospital for a hour after the tunnels, she had completed her maths work but was bored and hungry since she hadn't eaten breakfast and she had to find her mom to explain what happened with her chemistry tutor. She made her way up to peds and almost immediately found Arizona by the nurses desk.
"Hey Mom, do you have a moment?" Hope asked tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear.
"I do, I was just about to phone your chemistry tutor, she had left me 3 missed calls while I was in surgery. What did you do?" Arizona asked her daughter who was hoping she would have got to her mom before she saw her phone.
"I was writing notes while she spoke about my assessment for next week. And she does this every time, she ask if I'm listening so I said I haven't learnt the skill of looking at her while writing yet, which I haven't, I did kind of apologise but then I ended the video call because I was so annoyed and I didn't want to say anything else that I might regret, I did want to find you as soon as you came out of surgery but I wasn't sure what time you would have got out, so I had been wandering around the hospital after talking with Meredith, Lexie and Cristina while I did maths work" Hope explained runni not a hand through her hair.
"I'm sorry mom" Hope then said looking down.
"Well you did the right thing but ending the call but you are going to have to apologise to her on your next session with her" Arizona said, she may have never originally want children but adopting Hope was one thing she would never regret after all Hope's biological mother was one of Arizona's best friends.
"I will. How is Gavin, did the surgery go well? I would go and see him and his mom but I don't want to if it's not good?" Hope answered and asked about the young boy her mother. She was worried, it's not like she was related to the boy.
"It went fine, I know his mom and he would like for you to pop by later. He should be coming round soon" Arizona explained.
"Oh I also was hoping I could go to a tap class with Clare after lunch tomorrow, her mom said she'd pick me up and drop me off after and we were talking about it when I was wandering the hospital" Hope said realising she hadn't asked if she could go to the class her.
"You can, I have back to back surgery's tomorrow afternoon so when you leave make sure you let someone know" Arizona said to Hope who smiled
"Thank you mom. Do you want to go for some lunch? If you have time. I've not eaten this morning" Hope said.
"I've told you to have breakfast. Come on then let's go to the cafeteria" Arizona smiled to her daughter.
"Mom, what was Scarlett like?" Hope asked as she walked beside Arizona to the elevator.
"She was exactly like you Hope, she cared about everyone and always tried to make people smile" Arizona said smiling as she remembered Scarlett June, Hope's biological mother.
"Anyway where has all this came from?" Arizona asked curiously, Hope hadn't thought about asking Arizona about her parents before she knew her father was a bad man and her mom was no longer alive but after looking at her English assignment for the week she had to write about her family and realised she didn't know what her biological mother was like
"My English assignment this week, I've got to write about my family. I know I can write about you, write about uncle Timothy and gran and grandpa but I want to include Scarlett, I'm not going to include my dad. He's not important and I don't want to know about him but Scarlett, I want to know about her for the assignment" Hope said biting her lip anxiously.
"When's the assignment due?" Arizona asked
"Next Monday" Hope answers
"Okay, how about Wednesday when You finish dance I pick you up then we get a take away and I tell you all about Scarlett, I'll tell you what she loved, what she hated and what she dreamed off" Arizona smiled happily, she wasn't sure if she should tell the thirteen year old about her mothers mental health problems which lead to her death.
"Okay, can we get pizza?" Hope asked grinning happily.

Arizona was just finishing up her shift but she didn't know where Hope was. It was later than Arizona had planned as she had an emergency surgery to do on a 10 year old. Hope was asleep on the sofa in the attending's lounge, she had completed all of her school work and spent a few hours dancing in the tunnels, she was choreographing her own dance, something she loved doing. Although it was 7:30 Hope still a sleep and had been for 15 minutes after unintentionally falling asleep while waiting for her mom.
"Hope, Sweetie. Time to wake up" Arizona said softly to Hope, gently she shook her daughter to wake her up.
"Hi Mom" Hope mumbled sleepily.
"Hi sweetie, I'm sorry I'm late. we're going home now." Arizona said softly again. Hope pushed herself so she was sitting and the stretched before she stood up. The mother and daughter duo grabbed their things from Arizona's locker and began to leave the hospital.
"What would you like for dinner tonight?" Arizona asked Hope as they got off the elevator on the ground floor.
"Can we have Macaroni cheese and ice cream for desert?" Hope asked
"We can have whatever you want Hope" Arizona answered her daughter who grinned happily.
"Ohhh... Can we eat the ice cream on the sofa and watch The Game Plan?" Hope smiled bouncing on the balls of her feet, she was like a excited little kid.
"If you really want to watch that film again then of course" Arizona kissed her daughters forehead and slid her arm around her shoulders.
"I love you Mom. Always" Hope said glancing up to her mother.
"I love you too my little twinkle toes" Arizona said to her daughter. The two of them headed out of the hospital and towards Arizona's car. Hope got into the passenger seat of her mothers car and pulled her seatbelt across her. She leant her head against the door of the car and let out a yawn, she never usually was this tired when she's dancing but for some reason she was exhausted.
"You okay?" Arizona asked Hope who nodded.
"I'm fine, just tired" Hope said.
"You'd tell me if you weren't. Right?" Arizona asked her daughter who nodded.
"Of course I would Mom, I always do" Hope reassured her mother. Arizona glanced over to her daughter who forced a smile.
"Mom, how is things with you and Callie?" Hope asked changing subjects.
"I wanted to talk to you about that when we get home" Arizona said to Hope who looked confused over to her mom.
"Can't we talk about it now, whatever it is?" Hope asked curiously.
"We can, if you want to" Arizona asked and Hope nodded.
"I want to ask Callie to move in with us. I won't if you don't want me to but I love her." Arizona said. Hope was happy that her mom was happy but she didn't know if she wanted Callie to move in with them, part of her felt like it was too soon but she wanted her mom to be happy. Hope looked away as she thought about what to say.
"I've always only ever wanted you to be happy Mom. And Callie makes you happy, I can tell she does. I wouldn't hate the idea of her moving in" Hope admitted, it wasn't exactly a lie, she wouldn't hate Callie moving in.
"If you don't want me to ask her yet I won't. You are still my Priority Hope, you always will be" Arizona said glancing to her daughter while they wait at the traffic lights.
"Mom ask her to move in. Callie is amazing and you love her. I wouldn't want to get in the middle of that. Plus Callie would be a great second mom if you two got married" Hope smiled,
"You will always be my mom though, Callie would just be a step mom. Your my mom" Hope then said hoping she didn't offend her mom, she'd never mean to offend her. It was decided that Arizona was going to ask Callie to move in with them. Hope was happy and excited for her mom, she hoped Callie would say yes to moving in because it meant if her mom had to work late Callie could bring her home, she wouldn't expect Callie too but it could be a possibility.
As the mother and daughter arrived home Hope went to change into her pyjamas while Arizona made macaroni cheese. Hope smiled as she removed her make up, which she didn't have much of on and then she threw her hair into a simple ponytail and headed into the kitchen to have dinner with her mother.
