the sun shone down on his cheeks, warming them up and giving light to the paleness. jungkook felt his tailbone digging into the metal bleacher seat, shifting ever so often and hoping to become more comfortable. soft eyes trained on the field, fingers playing feebly with soft leaves from the flower in his hands.

it was wednesday. jungkook kept watching his best friends lacrosse practice and wondered when it would be over. his stomach grumbled and he ignored it, knowing they'd go get food once yeji had showered and changed. the two of them had plans after practice today, which consisted of yeji trying on various outfits for fridays party and the ravenette being the final judge.

the girls voices were faint down on the field, yelling at each other and shouting for the ball when they were open. jungkook looked down at his flower and thought back to the little patch of them beside the concrete. he took this one away from its friends, but he's sure they didnt mind. jungkook liked to pick up pretty things.

the relative peacefulness was interrupted by noisy steps on the metal bleachers and loud laughter. jungkooks nose scrunched up at the sudden disruption. everything was so nice when he sat alone ⏤ now the peace was killed by boys.

handsome boys at least ⏤ or maybe just one in particular.

jungkook had his hood up, but he peeked around the edge through messy bangs too. noisy boys on the bleachers during a girls practice wasn't uncommon to see. plus, jungkook knew a certain boy that had a tendency to hang out with this flock of footballers.

his brown hair shone in the sun, almost golden ⏤ much like his skin sitting exposed courtesy of the v-neck and shorts he wore. taehyung sat down on the bleachers, thighs spread slightly and head tilting back as he laughed at something his friend had said.

they must not have noticed the small boy already sitting up there, only allowing him to peek some more and stare at that golden skin.

jungkook knew he should have looked away, he should have put his flower down and not been to open about how he day dreamed about the handsome quarterback. it wasnt a secret, not when it was written in those doe-eyes so clearly.

jungkook let one of the thorns on the stem prick the pad of his thumb. now he watched the drop of blood trail down his pale skin.

"-they're going." someone had said. "come on we cant miss it." another guy said, now jumping up from his spot on the bleachers and already hoping down obnoxiously. each step shook the bleachers and made more noise, the other boys following alone.

"they dont undress on the way to the locker room, they do that inside." one of the football players said. maybe this one had some essence of a brain. jungkook rolled his eyes at the idiocy going on over there, doing his best to ignore them completely but also listening intently for that deep honey laugh again.

"come on taehyung!"

jungkook felt himself freeze just by hearing the males name. apparently they were all getting up to leave just as fast as they had sat down on the bleachers. they're patience lasted about as long as the lacrosse practice lasted. now they'd go bother the girls as they headed for the showers all sweaty and frustrated from their previous exertion.

taehyung was about to stand, but he hesitated. "i'll catch up with you guys." he said.

his friends glanced at him for a moment, but shrugged and carried on. taehyung watched as they left down the bleachers again, already talking about something else and one of them occasionally shoving the other. they turned the corner and left behind the stands, voices turning quiet from the greater distance between them now.

taehyung brought his foot up to tie the laces on his sneakers, pulling off a sticker that clung to the side of it.

he finally stood and looked over, seeing the boys small hunched form sitting alone near the top. "you gonna invite me over or what?" taehyung said.

his voice was loud, but not like the disruptive kind. jungkook didnt mind hearing it just then, especially since he knew the male was talking to him. that didnt stop the nerves from swirling in his stomach though, or the hesitance of looking over and nodding a little. jungkook didnt speak, but he didnt say no either. there was a small smile on his face and the boy moved his backpack to the ground, leaving the space beside him open now.

taehyung felt a slight grin tug at the corner of his lips, taking the invitation and walking over to sit beside the freshman.

"hey, jungkook." his voice was deep and rich as usual.

the sound of his name made the small one look up again, a slight smile showing. "hi." jungkook spoke much softer.

taehyung sat down finally beside the boy, their thighs almost touched. jungkook had stopped staring now, knowing very well that he couldnt get away with it now. instead he watched the field again, empty now without lacrosse balls and water bottles littering the grass.

"were you here to watch your friend?" taehyung asked the younger.

jungkook nodded and set the flower down on his lap. "yeah."

the lack of response from the freshman wasnt unusual, and taehyung didnt take it to heart. he was starting to learn that sitting in silence seemed to be jungkooks preference. if he was enjoying himself then taehyung wouldnt push anything else to change that.

"i should probably go find her." jungkook said.

but he didnt make any moves to get up, not just yet. their thighs were still so close.

"mhm." taehyung hummed, eyes also staring at the field and the slight breeze blowing his soft bangs away to expose sharp eyebrows. jungkook realized he was staring again, and he quickly looked down at his flower and hoped his face didnt resemble the same shade. "did you bring that for her?" taehyung asked now.

"i got it for myself." jungkooks thoughts came out quicker than he had the chance to censor them. now he must have looked like the rose, the heat he felt in his cheeks was a give away.

taehyung didnt seem bothered however, not by the way his lips twitched into a small smile at that. there were very few moments where the boy seemed to speak his thoughts, taehyung liked when he was around for the moments that jungkook let himself say those things.

the football player opened his mouth to speak, but it wasnt his voice that was heard. "jungkook! did you see-" it was yeji running up the side of the metal stands to find her best friend where he always sat during her practices.

she wasnt expecting to see someone sitting beside the little one. "oh im sorry." yeji smiled shyly and waved at the older male. "hello." she greeted the athlete.

taehyung chuckled, "its okay, i was just about to go." he said.

jungkook tried to ignore the small drop in his stomach. he wasnt sure if it was because they were interrupted or because taehyung was leaving ⏤ either way, he didnt like it. "hi yeji." he said anyways, "and yes i did see. it was a beautiful steal." he knew exactly what she would ask about, considering she jumped so high after intersecting a pass from her opposing team and seemed to float with joy afterwards.

his best friend beamed again and kept walking over to step over the few seats to reach the boys. "i love having long legs." she grinned.

jungkook hummed, glancing at his friend in her skirt and sneakers and endless length of perfect legs connecting the two.

"lunch?" jungkook changed the subject and reached for his backpack to slip the straps onto his shoulders. "lunch." yeji grinned and held her arm out for the younger to link his own with.

"i'll see you around jungkook." taehyung stood up as well and bid the friends goodbye. jungkook watched the older leave, muscles flexing under a thin tshirt as he walked. the slight trance he was in only broke when his best friend nudged his leg, "come on love dove." yeji whispered it, but jungkook still heard and his heart still stopped.

"you cant say those things." jungkook whispered it harshly, but coming from him it was barely anything close to threatening.

yeji giggled and pulled him closer to her side as they walked with their arms linked. "im sorry." she said, "lunch is on me." she looked over and still say her best friend scowling as best as he could. it only made her giggle some more.

it was like a cure, such a sweet sound to relieve the ravenette of the negatively he may have felt by a small remark opening up painful memories. it was a small cure, for a single moment ⏤ but jungkook would take any cure he could get for the pain he almost always found himself in.
