chapter four: the beating he deserved

[Fight so dirty, but your love's so sweet
Talk so pretty, but your heart got teeth
Late night devil, put your hands on me
And never, never, never ever let go]

The next time Jungkook met Taehyung was again highly coincidental. He was on a mission in one of Seoul's busiest clubs. Namjoon was in his head – quite literally since the earpiece was set to be louder than the actual music in the club. He navigated Jungkook through the crowd to locate the victim of that night.

Jungkook tightened his hand around the bottle of beer while his other hand hovered over the silenced handgun hidden in his jacket. His gaze landed on the man of the evening, who, to Jungkook's preference, would be dead in an hour. The man was supposedly thirty-three years old and the nephew of a drug lord. He had kidnapped one of the higher-ups to take his place. The man hadn't expected anyone to find out – but his uncle did and now his uncle wanted him dead – without his nephew's death being able to be traced back to him. He was after all family, and if the drug lord's family came to know of the death – it wouldn't be pretty.

Jungkook knew what to do. Wait until the man disappears outside for a smoke, as he had done before, and then follow him outside through another exit. He'd be in an alleyway smoking and Jungkook would have a free shot at the man from a distance.

"Don't forget about the bartender" Namjoon's voice rang in his ear. "He'll have a break in about ten minutes and goes out for a smoke as well. If they find each other in that alleyway, your job will become a lot harder."

Jungkook moved to lean against one of the walls, his gaze flitting across the room but always with the man in the corner of his eye. At one point his stare landed on a boy that stood somewhere at the side, watching the people dance as he moved his hips slowly, seemingly not quite feeling the music.

Jungkook immediately recognized the boy he had shared a bed with about five weeks ago. Taehyung's hair had gone through a change, seeing as the tips were now dyed purple and his eyes were matching that color – still a fan of contact lenses, Jungkook thought. Taehyung wore a white flowy see-through shirt that was tucked into blue jeans. He looked different from the other night but he was obviously still as gorgeous as he had been before.

Jungkook felt his legs move on an impulse and suddenly he found himself only a few meters away from the boy. Jungkook wasn't sure what he was doing and apparently, Namjoon was puzzled as well.

"Jungkook, what are you doing? You've turned your back to Kim Wonho."

Jungkook moved half a circle so he was behind Taehyung, with his eyes now back on his victim. Without another thought, he stepped forward and tapped the boy onto the shoulder. Taehyung glanced over his shoulder, a seductive smile already forming on his lips as if he had been trained for this, but then it dropped when he recognized the person in front of him.

"You."

Jungkook felt incredibly awkward but didn't want to let it show so he pushed his confidence forward and replied, "You."

"What are you doing here?" Taehyung asked him, seemingly uninterested. It confused Jungkook as to why Taehyung acted this way. When he had left Taehyung in his apartment to go to work, everything seemed to have been completely fine between them but.... had something happened? Had he done something to offend the boy?

"I'm here for the same reason as you I suppose", Jungkook lied, his eyes still flickering between Taehyung and the dead man walking.

Taehyung scoffed at his words, his opinion about Jungkook still unchanged. Jungkook, married, was looking at a club for a hookup? How original, he thought, and how disgusting. Even though no confirmation had been made about Jungkook actually having a wife or husband, Taehyung assumed so anyway. He had a certain pride to uphold.

"Do you always treat your one-night stands like this?" Jungkook asked, a surge of confidence hitting him to blurt this out because it had stung when Taehyung merely scoffed at him.

"Not when they're unmarried", Taehyung snapped, and this took Jungkook to a whole other level of utter confusion. Not when they're unmarried? What was that supposed to mean?

He'd loved to ask Taehyung this, to confront the boy about his words but Kim Wonho had started moving and Namjoon was shouting in his ear about it. Jungkook winced at the sound his earpiece was making and pushed past Taehyung, knowing he couldn't risk failing this operation.

He'd have to talk to Taehyung another time – if he ever met the boy again.

Taehyung felt a pang of pain when Jungkook merely brushed him off as if he had been nothing. He turned around, ready to yell at him when he saw Jungkook seemingly chasing after someone before disappearing outside. "Whatever", Taehyung scoffed, "You weren't even that good."

A lie. Ever since Jungkook, he hadn't been able to find another person that matched Jungkook on any level. His body count might have gone higher than hundredth, mentally, he wished he could do number hundred all over again.

Jungkook wiped his hands clean and sighed as he watched blood drip down his shoulder. He hadn't expected Kim Wonho to expect him, especially not with a knife. "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight", he muttered, his words disappearing into the darkness. Kim Wonho was apparently a bold son of a bitch, but a dumb one at that.

Kim Wonho had felt as if someone was following him and had jumped from behind the counter, effectively stabbing Jungkook in the shoulder with a pocket knife. But maybe he hadn't expected the person following him to carry a set of two guns and so he was quickly dead, eyes glazed and mouth agape.

Jungkook was on his way to his hyungs' hideout aka the basement he always resided in. As soon the elevator dinged and he had stumbled out of it, into the room, hand pressed against the wound in his shoulder, Jimin had run over to him with a first aid kit.

His hyungs often fussed over him whenever he got hurt during one of his missions. While Jimin tended to the stab wound he told Jungkook about what had gone down during his mission. "Namjoon has gotten his ass whooped the second you got stabbed."

"You should have checked the outside cameras!", Hoseok imitated Seokjin, sitting on the floor next to where Jungkook was lying on the couch, "I think he was still too caught up with the fact that some random guy in the club insinuated you were married. What was that about?"

Jungkook rolled his eyes. "None of your business."

"It could've brought the mission in danger, heck, you were already in danger", Jimin commented as he pressed down onto the wound, hearing the boy underneath him hiss, "You shouldn't get distracted like that."

"Could he be the one boy you brought home when you went clubbing with Namjoon?" Hoseok asked, munching on some crisp, "Though the camera quality wasn't the best, he did look like quite the catch."

Jungkook looked to the side, "You guys really focused on him during my mission?"

"Well, since you were so focused on him as well..."

Jimin tutted at both of them, "If the boss finds out about any of this, we'll end up with our asses kicked."

"It wasn't as if this was that dangerous of a mission. Jungkookie has done worse and seen worse, and been worse." Hoseok replied, "Anyway, why does the kid think you're married?"

"Beats me", Jungkook croaked out, the pain in his shoulder getting worse now that the adrenaline had left his body. The wound had begun throbbing and he knew he'd be too sore for another mission for some time. He really didn't like knives all that much. He had too many scars of stab wounds.

He wasn't sure how Taehyung hadn't noticed the multiple scars during sex, or maybe he hadn't cared. Jungkook did have a lot of tattoos to cover up the multiple scars and maybe they had taken the focus away from the wounds.

"You'll have some time to yourself now that you're out of the job", Yoongi said when he walked in, dropping the file that stated that the boss granted him some time off. "What will you do?"

Jungkook hummed, "Set things straight." He really needed to see Taehyung again but he was certain the boy wouldn't respond to his calls or texts and neither did Jungkook want to go clubbing every day for the chance to run into Taehyung.

He looked up at Yoongi and smiled innocently, "Could my dearest hyung find some info about someone?"

Jimin scoffed, "I thought your dearest hyung was the one making sure you don't bleed to death."

Jungkook glanced at Jimin who was sitting on top of his stomach, cleaning the wound, and pouted. "You're all dear to me."

Yoongi scoffed, "Sure kid, but hopefully, it's not to be a creep."

Jungkook chuckled, "No, not at all."

"He already slept with the dude anyway", Hoseok added which made him duck to avoid the smack coming from Jungkook's working arm. "What? It's true!"
