Fourteen
I hadn’t gone to ‘work’ at all since the first day. I’d wondered when he’d ask me again.
“Taehyung.”
“Yeah?” I turned, so that I was facing him.
“Would you be comfortable with something unofficial?”
“Like, one of your illegal exploits?”
“Your skills would be beneficial for me in my...other dealings. But I won’t force you.”
“You’re so considerate. I never imagined that you would be someone like this.”
“Only for you.” A hand brushed my jaw and I blushed.
“I still don’t understand this.”
“Why?”
“Well, what am I to you?” He paused, but his eyes never wavered from mine.
“You’re my lover.” He said simply.
I cracked a smile. “Am I now? That makes me feel bad, getting all the love from you.”
“You’ll make it up to me.” He pulled my closer to him. “I'm never this patient. I'm the type of person who takes what he wants, when he wants. But I want to be patient. Because I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“You jerk. Don’t go and say things like that. I may just go and fall for you.”
“Go ahead. Nobody’s stopping you.”
“You’re right. Nobody’s stopping me.” I buried my face into his chest, drinking up his warmth. I guess I was still adjusting to not giving everything up to my brother. Now that I could actually have something of my own, I didn’t know what to do.
“Good night.” He kissed my head.
“Night.” I closed my eyes. Sleep came quickly.
This next morning I woke to something tickling my nose. I swatted it away, rolling over. I grabbed Jungkook’s wrist before he could tickle me again. “What are you doing?” I asked murderously.
“Still not a morning person, I see.” I rolled off of the bed and headed to the bathroom, taking a quick shower. I dressed into some of the new ‘work’ clothes Jungkook had gotten for me.
“Come on, we’ll be late.” He urged.
“Coffee.” I grumbled.
“Sorry, But we don’t have time.”
“What? But I need—“ he pulled me out before I could even finish my sentence. We got into the car and I sighed, slouching on the seat.
We pulled up to a building I’d never been to before. I got out and Jungkook led me inside. “Stay here, I’ll be just a few minutes.” I stood at the entrance awkwardly.
“Taehyung!” Jimin rounded a corner.
“Where have you been asshole?” I asked, irritated. I grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled him close. “You’ve been avoiding me, dumbass.” I felt my eye start to twitch. Jimin held up his hands.
“I’ve been busy!”
“Busy my ass. Yoongi bragged about your little stunt a few days ago when I met up with him.”
“You didn’t have any coffee this morning, did you?”
“Stop avoiding the question. Why have you been avoiding me? Was it really that disgusting, what I told you, that you can’t even look a me?”
“No! It’s just...” He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I just felt like I should’ve known.” I released Jimin, hitting him on the head before walking across the room. “Has Jungkook asked you to do something today?”
“How should I know?”
“Taehyung!” Jungkook came back to the room. “Come on. I want to get this over with. The faster we get it done, the sooner we can leave.”
“This better be good.” I muttered. I walked over to him and entered a room. A man was on a chair, hog tied and muffled.
“What is this?” I asked flatly.
“He’s a spy from one of my competitors. He can’t speak Korean, so I thought you’d get some answers from him.”
“Fine. But we’re getting coffee after this.”
“Anything you want.” I walked up to the man and tore off his muffle.
“I can’t speak Korean, I already told you...” he mumbled.
“That’s fine.” I replied in English. “I have no problem translating for you.” The man jerked away, sweat beading at his hairline. “What am I asking him?” I directed towards Jungkook.
“Who he works for, to start off with. I already know, but I want to see if he’ll talk.”
“Who do you work for?”
“I don’t work for anybody!”
“Who do you work for?” I repeated.
“Nobody! I won’t say anything! You’ll be here all day!” I slapped him and grabbed his shirt, pulling him close.
“Listen here, buddy, this morning is not my best and I’d really like some coffee right now. The sooner you squeal, the sooner I'll get my fix. So, let me ask again, before I say something that Jungkook will understand to be worthy of shooting you in the head for. Who do you work for?”
“C-Caleb Trevislant!” He finally said. I released him.
“He said Caleb Trevislant.” I turned to Jungkook. “Next question? I think he’s ready to talk.”
“Why did Caleb send him here?”
“He wants some kind of...will, from you? He was sent to steal it.” I Said after asking.
“Which will?”
“Yuzanth.”
“For what purpose?”
“He doesn’t know.”
“For what purpose?” Jungkook repeated.
“He says that all he was told was to get the will. Nothing more.”
“He knows, he’s just not telling. Ask him again.” By now it’s been more than twenty minutes. I sighed and turned to the man again.
“Why did he want the will.”
“You’re bleeding.” He muttered.
“What? No I’m not.” I felt something hot trickle down my upper lip. I wiped it and looked. Blood rested on my hand. “Shit.” I muttered. I turned and looked at Jimin. “I need a break. I don’t think he’s going to talk.”
“Five minutes.” Jungkook consented.
“That’s all I need.” I walked past him and grabbed Jimin, pulling him with me out of the room. “Do you have it?”
“Of course I have it.” Jimin said. He rustled around his pocket and pulled out the small package. I took it, my hands starting to shake.
“How long has it been, Taehyung?”
“I don’t know.” I lied.
“Taehyung!”
“It’s been a month, okay?” I shot at him.
“Jesus Christ.” He muttered. “And you didn’t think it'd be important to tell him?”
“I didn’t think I’d need it!”
“You need it at least every two weeks!” I opened the pack and took out the needle. I filled it and grabbed my belt, taking it off and wrapping it around my arm. I pulled it taut with my mouth and set the needle to where it needed to go.
I injected slowly, panting as the fluid went into my system. Jimin watched me, making sure I could do it on my own. When I was done, I removed the needle and put my belt back on. “How many more do you have?”
“Five.” Jimin said.
“I’ll have to get some more.”
“You should carry it around yourself.”
“I can’t—“ I stopped. “Oh, that’s right. Yeah, I guess so, but I’ll give you some just in case.”
“Fine.”
“What are you doing? It’s been seven minutes.” I snapped my head up to Jungkook, who’s walked into the room. I still had the needle in my hand and I threw it in the trash can beside me as quickly as I could.
Fuck.
