River of Words - Part 2
"Hey," Jaden said as he passed by Lana's locker the next day. She fought to hide when she nearly jumped out of her skin by nonchalantly glancing over her shoulder at him and smiling a little. He was gone before she could reply, having kept eye contact with her for nearly ten seconds.
She took a deep breath before she could concentrate on rearranging her bag again. It reminded her of whenever it was just them sitting at the lunch table. They'd have animated conversations and even mildly flirt. He seemed like himself when it was just them, but every time someone else was there, he was distant.
It wasn't the best circumstance, she had to admit. Especially that one time last year when her best friend told her that she and Jaden were walking home from school one day that she couldn't go with them and he told her he had a crush on her. Lana had gone home and cried. It was so hard to not hate her best friend, and even harder to sit there and watch them flirt every so often and act like it didn't bother her. Fortunately, that only lasted a couple of months. He'd watched her reactions the whole time, so she took care to not actually give him one.
As she walked to class, it wasn't the first time it occurred to her that maybe letting him go was better than hanging on.
---
English was her last class of the day, and her favorite. She finished the quiz in a few minutes and for the rest of the class, wrote lyrics for a song she would never compose because she wasn't in the slightest musically inclined.
1. Staring at you across the room it feels like you're my Superman. When your eyes meet mine I feel like dropping to my knees and pleading
(Chorus)
(Chorus: I can be your Lois Lane if you'll be my Superman. Fly away with me. Clark Kent has nothing on you but he'll do.)
2. Looking at you I know you could be my Superman. If only you knew why I can't meet your eyes, staring at the floor wanting to jump in your arms and beg you
(Chorus)
3. Watching your feet come to me my eyes are glued to my Superman. Even though you're better than Superman I can't help seeing you and wanting to whisper in your ear
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
Clark Kent has nothing on your looks. You're so nice you make Superman look like a criminal, so mild-mannered you make Clark Kent look like a short fuse. So fly away with me, up into the clouds. We can slow dance in mid-air, our feet not touching the ground. Think of me as your Lois Lane. No fear exists when you're with me.
(Chorus 2x)
As Lana finished, the bell rang. She crumpled the paper in her hand and got her stuff together. It probably wouldn't work as an actual song, but to be sure she'd have to ask her best friend - she was the musical one.

A/N: Sorry it's been a while! I've been busy and haven't had time to work on this in a while. Plus, I've been lacking the inspiration as to how to approach the plot. But I'm back now, and I'm still doing this one quickly. Prepare to have another chapter within a few days!
