Chapter 7
This is for you, @leximerida.
When Sally woke up the next morning, she wondered if she had imagined the Godly conference in her living room. It definitely seemed more like a dream than something that would have actually happened. Sally sat up and stretched. Her movement disturbed Paul, who had been resting next to her. He opened his eyes slowly, and yawned,
"I had the weirdest dream last night."
Sally looked at him and raised her eyebrows, signaling for him to continue.
"Yeah, it was strange. The Olympians were here, in our apartment, and boy did they argue a lot." Sally blinked at the realization that the Godly conference was a very real thing that had happened, but Paul was absorbed in the telling of his dream and just kept talking.
"Oh! And you know shades? He was laying on the floor like a sunbathing cat! Isn't that insane?"
Only then did he look at Sally. One glance at her face was all he needed.
"Oh. So, it wasn't a dream?"
Sally shook her head, and Paul nodded shakily.
"Woah, I can't believe I've met real life Greek Gods."
Sally couldn't help but laugh at his awestruck expression. Paul quickly joined in, before gasping,
"Wait does that also mean we've adopted Nico and Thalia?"
Something about his tone made Sally freeze. She looked at him apprehensively,
"Yeah, I—. Yes we did. Is that still okay? If it's not, we can figure something out, but last night you just—"
Paul cut off her nervous rambling.
"Honey. It's fine. I'm glad we get to provide happiness to those two. I just want to get to know them better."
Sally sighed in relief, and laid back down, resting her head on Paul's chest. Paul chuckled, and ran his fingers through her hair. Just as the couple was drifting into a peaceful doze, there was a loud crash from the living room, followed by a parade of increasingly creative swears. The two shared a glance before climbing out of bed and rushing down the hall.
They were met with a rather peculiar sight. Pillows were scattered across the room, thrown haphazardly into every single corner. There was a pile of blankets on the floor, rising up and down as though it was breathing, and no teenagers in sight. Another loud swear, followed by a slap and a shushing noise led Paul and Sally into the kitchen, where they were met yet again with a strange sight.
Thalia and Percy were in the kitchen. It was obvious that they were trying to make breakfast, but it wasn't going very well. There were pancake ingredients strewn across the countertop, with no system of organization. But strangest of all, was the fact that Thalia was soaking wet, and Percy was covered in flour. The two teens didn't immediately notice the adult watching, so Sally and Paul watched as Thalia reached out and shocked Percy, only for Percy to grab the half-full egg carton and lob an egg at Thalia's forehead. Thalia growled and was about to tackle Percy, when Sally cleared her throat. Both teens froze, and slowly turned to look at Sally. Then they turned back to look at each other, and simultaneously muttered,
"Shit."
Sally was about to scold them, both for the mess and the swearing, but when she opened her mouth, she was stopped by a loud laugh from Paul. Everyone's head snapped to look at him, but he was only looking at Sally.
"Jesus Sally, What have we gotten ourselves into? Do you think we can convince Hades to buy us a bigger apartment?"
Percy blinked in surprise. As far as he knew, Paul hadn't actually met any of the gods, and yet he was talking about Hades as if they were old friends. He looked over at Thalia, who looked just as confused as he did, but probably for different reasons. Before either of the teens could all questions, however, there was a shuffling from the living room and a muffled voice said,
"Are you guys talking about my father?"
Nick stumbled into the kitchen, with his hair messy from sleep. When he caught sight of flour covered Percy and egg-covered Thalia, he turned around and walked out, grumbling,
"I'm not a part of this."
Paul laughed again, as Sally smiled fondly. Thalia and Percy both just glared after their cousin. Sally looked back to the two teens that were covered in food, and sighed.
"You two go wash off, I'll make pancakes. Thanks, if you want you can borrow some of my clothes. They might fit you better than Percy's."
Thalia nodded and dated off to the bathroom. Sally gave Percy an expectant look, and Percy grimaced.
"We only have one shower."
Sally only raised her eyebrows and gestured at the sink. Percy groaned and glared at his mom as he flicked his hand at the sink. It turned on, and with another flick of his wrist, began to swirl around him like a very fancy shower. Sally and Paul watched in a mix of awe and anemones, until Percy coughed.
"Um, I'm going to, you know, strip, so a bit of privacy would be nice."
Sally just rolled her eyes and walked off, but Paul sputtered awkwardly,
"Oh! Sorry Percy! I would never purposefully invade—"
Percy quickly cut off his apology,
"Dude, it's okay."
Paul nodded and hurried into the living room.
Nico was sitting in an armchair, with his feet drawn to his chest. He was watching the TV intently, although Paul seriously doubted he was actually watching the Windmill documentary.
Sally was sitting on the couch with her legs propped up on the coffee table. Paul sat next to her, before turning to Nico.
"Hey kid,"
Nico didn't respond, so Paul tried again,
"Nico," this time the boy turned, and Paul smiled. "How about you turn on something you want to watch?"
Nick blinked and opened his mouth, before closing it again. He swallowed and then said,
"Uh, I don't actually know how to work the TV."
Then he tossed Paul the remote.
"You should probably choose."
Nico looked at the floor, seemingly embarrassed. Paul felt his face morph into an expression of confusion, and he turned to Sally. Sally met his gaze and whispered,
"He's from the 1940s."
Paul felt his eyebrows shoot up and his jaw drop. He had so many questions, but when he looked at Nico, who was awkwardly staring at the floor, he decided that it wasn't the time for questions right now.
"Hey Nico, tell me what you want to watch, and I'll try to find it to fire you."
Nico looked at him, and blinked.
"Oh, uh I watch a lot of history stuff. You know to catch up on what I missed."
The last part was said quietly, so Paul wasn't sure if he was supposed to have heard it. But nevertheless he nodded, and felt his smile widen. He navigated through the TV channels, until he managed to find a documentary on Steve Irwin. He turned to Nico, and shrugged.
"Not exactly history, but Steve Irwin was a pretty influential guy. Hopefully you find this interesting."
Nico looked at Paul with a black look on his face, but his eyes were swirling with emotions. He nodded to Paul,
"Thanks Mr. Blofis."
"No problem kiddo," He winked, "And you can call me Paul."
Nico's face split into a wide grin, and Paul smiled back. Nico turned to the TV, and Paul turned to look at Sally. She was looking at him with an expression of pure contentment. She leaned towards him and whispered,
"You, sir, are shaping up to be an excellent dad."
Paul's cheeks turned pink, but he was more proud than embarrassed. Sally continued,
"Well tell them about the adoption over breakfast."
Paul nodded and couldn't help but feel giddy.
Word count 1310. Pretty happy with this! I had to re-read this entire story because I completely forgot what had happened, but it was fun! Please let me know what you think!
(Also I literally didn't proofread this¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
