Chapter 3

Five people were sitting around the Blofis's dinner table in an uncomfortable silence. Sally had just served dinner, and now everyone is trying to eat. Percy was stuffing his face, oblivious to the awkwardness surrounding him. Paul was eating, but he kept glancing at Nico and Thalia as if he was wondering when they were going to blow up his nice apartment. Nico was trying to get Percy's attention without anyone else noticing him. It wasn't working. Both Sally and Thalia's eyes were glued to him.

The answer to Paul's question was answered relatively quickly, but in a different way than expected. As opposed to blowing up the apartment in a fire-y explosion, Nico blew it up by breaking the silence.

"Hey Percy, um, what was your favorite part of the day?"

The awkward silence dissipated as Percy looked up from his dinner plate,

"One sec, mouth full of food," Percy mumbled as he chewed. Once he swallowed, everyone at the table was looking at him.

"My favorite part of the day was when we were watching the ocean documentary. That was hilarious. How about you nico?" Nico smiled as he answered,

"My favorite part of the day was when the doorman in the lobby greeted us when we came, because that means he recognizes us. I don't know, it made me happy. Thals? How about you?"

Thalia nodded,

"Uh, it's a combination of both I think. My day is just better once in the Blofis-Jackson apartment." It faded into silence again. Percy quickly spoke after swallowing his bit of food,

"Thals, you need to ask someone,"

"Oh, uh, Mr. Blofis, what was the best part of your day?" Paul looked happy to be included.

"You can call me Paul, dear. My favorite part of the day was when a kid in my class gave me a chocolate bar, and also, right now. Sally, honey, what was you favorite part of the day?"

"My favorite part is also right now. All of my most important people, right here." Thalia and Nico exchanged a quick glance. One of her most important people? Wow, they knew Sally liked them, but they didn't know they were quite that important to her.

Percy had finished his dinner, and excused himself. He got up and went to the sink,

"I call washing the dishes!!" Thalia and Nico laughed while Sally rolled her eyes. Paul just smiled. Thalia spoke up,

"I'll help!"

"I don't need help Thalia. You just focus on eating." Percy gestured to Thalia's nearly full plate. He turned on the sink and with a wave of his hand, his plate was perfectly clean. He walked back over to the table and sat back down, as to not be rude. Paul was used to Percy and his powers, but he still watched with a mild sense of amazement.

Nico was next to finish his meal. He stood up and was about to wash his own plate, but Percy beat him to it. Before Nico had even turned on the sink, his plate was already clean. Percy hadn't even stood up, he just willed the water to clean from his spot at the table. Nico just turned towards Percy and rolled his eyes. Thalia scoffed at her cousins.

"Thals! Stop laughing and finish your food." Percy joked. She just rolled her eyes, but about thirty seconds later, Percy jumped.

"Thaila! You just shocked me!"

"Yeah I did, you got a problem with that? I could—" Thaila caught Sally's eyes. Sally was shaking her head slightly. "Apologize, and then behave myself." Sally smiled and stared a conversation with Paul. Thalia let out a breath that she didn't realize she had been holding. Percy laughed,

"Pinecone face, apologizing??" He looked across the table at Nico, who also starting laughing,

"HA! Like that would ever happen."

Seconds later, both boys jumped. Thaila smirked, and struck up a conversation with Paul and Sally, who hadn't noticed that Thalia had shocked the boys. Percy and Nico glanced at each other and seemingly made a decision. Unfortunately, Sally stood up just as the boys plan was about to go into action. Sally dismissed everyone at the dinner table, and told the three teens to go outside for a walk so she could have an 'adult conversation' with Paul. The half bloods didn't argue. They put on their shoes and left the apartment, giggling and shoving each other the entire way down the hall. Once they got into the elevator, the little immature squabble turned into a full out good natured sibling argument.

"BUT PERCY!! How can a shrimp see more colors than what we see? Colors that we don't see, basically don't even exist!"

"No, but Thalia, the mantis shrimp has sixteen color cones in its eyes. Humans only have three, though some people have four. So the only logical thing is that they see more colors than us."

"Yeah, okay, but how do we know? The thing is we, don't know! Like imagine having sixteen primary colors! You can't! Because that's just baloney! You're pulling our legs, and I'm not falling for it."

"I agree with Thalia. You're just making this up as you go. We all know you've never studied this, so why would you know this?"

"BECAUSE, I'M THE SON OF POSEIDON!! I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERY SEA CREATURE."

"I CALL BULL. YOU HAVE NO BRAINS, AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE HEARD OF THIS 'KNOWLEDGE' . WE HAVE NO REASON TO BELIEVE YOU!!"

"AND I HAVE NO REASON TO LIE TO YOU! I WAS JUST TRYING TO SHARE AN INTERESTING FACT, AND NOW Y'ALL ARE ATTACKING ME!"

"OH YOU WANT AN ATTACK?" Thaila lunged at Percy, but Percy dodged her and she smashed into Nico. She was about to pounce again when the elevator door clanged open with a ding. The three demigods quickly straightened, and brushed of their clothes, trying to appear nonchalant. It barely worked, but they were able to walk out of the apartment lobby without drawing too much awkward attention. They walked outside, and set off down the sidewalk.

After about a minute of silence, Percy spoke up,

"But I am right about the Mantis shrimp. As the son of the Sea, I'm sure I know more about marine life then you two."

"As THe SoN oF ThE seA, I'm SuRe I knOw MOre AbOUt MaRiNE lIFe tHeN YOu TwO..." Thalia mocked, as Nico sniggered. Percy rolled his eyes,

"Well, I know I'm right. Annabeth would agree with me too."

"Oh yeah, Annabeth, your wonderful girlfriend." Percy blushed and shook his head,

"Nico, don't be jealous. Plenty of girls would love to be your girlfriend." Nico's face turned bright red and he choked on air. Thalia sniggered as they shared a knowing glance. Meanwhile, Percy scrunched his eyebrows up with confusion.

"What? Nico is very charming and likable. Who wouldn't want to date him?" Nico muttered something unintelligible, and Thalia was trying not to laugh. Percy sighed,

"Ugh fine. I get whats happening. I'm the stupid one, like always." Thalia nodded,

"NOW you get it. Jesus kelphead. I knew you were stupid, but not that stupid."

"HEY! I'm not that stupid! I'm just dense."

Suddenly, Nico interjected,

"Hey guys? Cool argument you're having, but uh, where are we going?"

Percy and Thalia looked up. They were about a block and a half away from Percy's Apartment building, so if they turned around, it was still visible. Percy shrugged,

"I was thinking we go bowling. That way no one has an advantage." Thalia scoffed,

"Bold of you to assume that I won't win."

"Huh? I never said you wouldn't win?"

"You implied it. I'm going to go get all the nice bowling balls." Thaila dashed down the sidewalk. Percy and Nico shared a surprised glance, and ran after her, determined to get a good bowling ball.
