Ch. 1 Hello Again
I'm so excited for this book! I have so many ideas!
Natasha couldn't wait for another mission. She got restless when there wasn't anybody's ass to kick. She preferred solo missions, but she didn't mind if Steve came along, hell, she could even handle Sam and his horrible jokes, but she'd never tell him that. Steve usually went on missions with Bucky because he hasn't yet been cleared for solo missions.
Natasha got up early, like she always does, she doesn't even need an alarm clock anymore, it's just second nature to her now. She puts on workout clothes and heads down to the training room. She heads straight for the ballet barre (it's the bar used for ballet stretches), that she had installed after the airport fight, she felt like she needed to get back to her ballet roots. She had even bought a pair of pointe shoes and a few leotards. She put on a classical ballet playlist on and began with a few quick stretches, after she was warmed up she slid into the splits and stretched some more. With a sigh she got up and began to use the ballet barre.
It felt good to stretch her muscles out on the barre, she began her old routine, the one she had done since before she can remember. She couldn't believe she still remembered it, but at the same time how could she forget it? While the horrible memories of the Red Room came back, she also felt a sense of some of nostalgia, a fond memory in her movements.
She was so lost in her thoughts she didn't see Bucky standing in the doorway, a strange look on his face.
He shifted his weight, causing the floor to creak and her head snapped up from where she was stretching.
"What?" She snapped, annoyed at being interrupted but when she saw who it was, her annoyance faded. So she looked at him more closely, examining his confused face, he looked like he had seen a ghost.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" She questioned when he didn't answer her first question.
He shook his head, like he was trying to clear it, "Nothing" he replied then took a shaky breath and continued, "It's just that your routine, the stretching, I mean, it looked really familiar to me, like I'd seen it before".
Natasha kept her face composed and let out a small laugh, "maybe on the tv, Steve's been showing you all the new technology, right?" Was all she said, she almost told him the truth, about the ballerinas and his role in the Red Room, their past, everything.
He nodded his head, still not looking convinced, she hoped for both their sakes he didn't remember, not yet, she couldn't handle it.
"Did you need something?" Natasha asked as continued her routine, the same one from all those years ago.
He stopped leaning on the doorframe and stood up straighter, finally out of his daydream. "Yes, I was supposed to meet Steve here to train but I don't see him" he said and started to move away.
Before Natasha could stop herself she said, "he's probably on his run, he's crazy getting up this early but you can use any equipment in here you'd like". Did I just do that? She thought, stupid, stupid you know better than this.
He nodded a thank you and closed the door behind him.
