'Oscar, Oscar, wake up'.

My eyes refuse to open as my mind slowly clicks back to life until I register the voice is Dad.

Panic washes over me. Is he okay?

But what is waiting for my eyes to see, my mind cannot register. He's sat upright on his own, his cheeks have a rosy tint I'd not seen in them for months and his ashen washed out skin has a slight glow to it.

'Dad! Are you ok?' I gasp, scared I'm dreaming what I'm seeing.

He smiles. 'Yes Oscar, Liten Vampyr came last night, didn't she?'

I nod slowly, mesmerised by the drastic change in him.

'Yes dad, she .....'

'Ahhhh I know what she did.' He replies, cutting me short. 'I know what she's capable of'.

My voice breaks, betraying me. 'I-I don't understand'.

'Oscar, you don't need to understand, even if I told you, you wouldn't believe me. If you want answers you can ask her when she returns tonight'.

As I try to push him more, he simply shushes me, not willing to budge on the subject.

It dawns on me that as much as I know my father, there is a side of his life I've never known.

So I have no choice but to wait on her return tonight, to get any kind of answers.

But for this moment I can breathe, and let the ball of anxiety that knots up in my stomach go, knowing today cancer won't take him away. Because at this moment, somehow she has eased the pain, even if it's just for today.
