Third Person POV

Kao wanted to kick himself for suggesting to Cooheart to make him his koala bear for the night.

He held his breath as Cooheart stayed quiet, seeming to think it over.

"You will be too heavy to place over my chest," Cooheart finally spoke up.

Kao almost fell off the bed. He was expecting Cooheart to just reject him outright but he was actually considering the suggestion, except for the weight problem.

"I will try to keep my weight off your chest," Kao said, his heart in his throat.

"You won't be able to sleep that way yourself," Cooheart remarked.

"I will wait for you to fall asleep," Kao assured him.

"Then when I fall asleep, you will place your whole weight on me?" Cooheart asked wide eyed.

"No, silly goose," said Kao, "I will go back to my space and try to get some sleep after."

"I'm not so sure about that," Cooheart said slowly, "but we can try."

Kao let out the breath that he had been holding back.

Without further hesitation he placed himself over Cooheart's chest, taking care not to put his heavy weight on him.

Kao felt Cooheart's arms go around his back. Instead of feeling turned on, Kao felt all so soft and grateful for the trust that Cooheart gave him.

Kao waited until Cooheart's breathing became even and regular.

Then he slowly moved back to his own space and closed his eyes.

Kao found that he couldn't sleep. His thoughts kept on going back to Title lying on his hospital bed, waiting for the time when he recovered and would be able to get back together with Cooheart.

How was he going to deal with it when that time came.

A tear fell unbidden and rolled down the side of his face, wetting his ear.

What was he doing, he asked himself, falling for someone who was already committed to someone else. He was not the type to come between two people who loved each other. He was not a breaker of relationships.

Kao decided that the following day he was going to the administrative offices of the campus dormitory to inquire if there was any vacancy.

Kao slept fitfully during the night.

When daybreak came, he very quietly got out of bed so as not to wake the sleeping Cooheart.

He gathered his stuff and went to the bathroom to do his morning routine and take his shower.

Rose was startled to see him so early in the morning and started to quickly prepare breakfast for him.

When Kao stepped out of the bathroom he could smell the delicious breakfast food that Rose had laid out for him on the breakfast table.

Kao quickly put on his university clothes and combed his hair and picked up his backpack from his study chair.

He took one last look at the still sleeping Cooheart and silently and sadly said "I love you, Cooheart" before stepping out of the room and quietly closing the door after him.

Kao made up his mind to stifle his sadness and decided to focus and enjoy his breakfast.

He took several forkfuls of the diagonally sliced apple and garlic flavored turkey sausages and placed them on his plate before scooping some scrambled eggs from the platter and setting them on one side of his plate. The remaining space on his plate was where he piled three pancakes over which he generously poured some maple flavored syrup.

He smiled ruefully as he stuffed a forkful of the scrambled eggs into his mouth. For a lovesick fool you haven't lost any appetite, he told himself. Well, anyway, he needed to keep himself energized because he had a long school day ahead of him.

After thanking Rose for the delicious breakfast, Kao stepped out of the house and headed for the university.

On his way, he heard someone call him from behind.

"Hey, you!"

He turned around. It was the same student whom he met at the cafeteria who was one of those occupying the off campus dormitory that Mrs. Namwirote owned.

Kao stopped and waited for the student to catch up with him.

"We didn't get to introduce ourselves to each other," the student was saying, already holding out his hand to Kao.

Kao took the proffered hand.

"My name is Kaownah, what's yours?"

"Kao," Kao said simply, and then let go of Kaownah's hand and started walking ahead.

Kaownah shuffled his feet quickly in order to fall into step with Kao.

"So how are things going in the Namwirote household?" Kaownah tried to make conversation.

Kao decided that he wasn't going to inform Kaownah that the landlady's son had returned from abroad and got involved in a motor accident and was now sharing his room with him until he fully recovered.

When Kao remained silent, Kaownah pursued his attempts at conversation.

"So my roommate informed me that Mrs. N has a son who is studying abroad."

"Who is Mrs. N?" Kao tried to deflect the subject.

"Mrs. Namwirote," Kaownah replied, "all of us at the dorm refer to her simply as Mrs. N, didn't you know?"

"I wouldn't know since I don't live in the dorm, would I?" Kao tried to keep the sarcasm from reaching his voice.

"How does the son look like? Have you seen any of his photos hanging around the house?"

"No," Kao had to tell an outright lie because he didn't want Kaownah to pursue the topic any longer.

"Listen," said Kao, "do you know if there are any vacancies in the campus dormitory?"

"Why do you ask? You're not happy with the living conditions inside Mrs. N's house?"

"Do I have to give you a reason?" Kao shot back.

"Hmmm..." Kaownah rubbed his hand under his chin.

"It's okay," Kao said quickly before Kaownah could say anything, "I'm gonna go to the administrative offices during my class interval."

Kao quickly stepped off the curb to cross the street.

The next thing he knew, he heard a loud and prolonged honk from the speeding car that had almost hit him.

Kaownah's quick instinctive action was to pull Kao up from the curb making Kao turn around to face him. Kaownah's arms were still around Kao's waist, their chests touching, their lips inches apart.

Kaownah's heart started to race faster than a bullet train as he stared wide eyed at Kao and took in the manly fragrance of his shaving cologne.
