The main protagonist of the story hinamori amu, is a female student attending seiyo elementary.

One night, amu wishes for the courage to show her "would-be" self and in the next morning, she finds 3 brightly colored eggs (pink, blue, and green).

These eggs hatch into 3 guardian characters, or "shugo charas". The guardian characters, named ran, miki, and suu, aid amu in discovering who she truly is and helps fulfill amu's dreams
