4. Renee

The music made every inch of the place vibrate, my steps being something that went unnoticed until the moment when each person in my path turned and admired to see me.

I smiled at some girls on the way, unleashing some giggles that I heard on my way to Layla's house.

Although my lips hurt after my fight with Reigns, a smile remained on them as I moved under the colored lights illuminating the lively event.

Even after a week past that, they still hurt like hell.

I had had enough of it, so I preferred to put it aside in my mind and concentrate on finding the blonde with red lipstick that I had been looking for since I arrived.

"Dean!"

But it was no surprise that instead of finding her, I found the housekeeper and birthday girl.

I briefly licked my lips, drawing a smile before turning on my heels and face her.

"Layla, hey!" I greeted her cheerfully, yielding to her arm around me. "Happy birthday."

"Thank you," she muttered, before taking a couple of steps away from me. In her hand she held a red cup as she watched me with a smile in her mouth. "I'm really glad you're here. I was worried that you wouldn't make it..."

I dared to smile sideways and, brazenly, to look at her playfully.

"I promised you that the one and only king on List F would be here, didn't I?"

"That's right." her heels sounded softly when she took a step near me and put her free arm around my neck."But boys as cute as you usually lie, darling. You should know that."

"Trust me, Layla," I looked her in the eye, keeping the defiant curvature on my lips and noticing that it had effects on the female. "I'm not like the others."

She chuckled, looking at me playfully with her perfectly delineated eyes.

"By the way, do you know where Renee is?"

That was enough to make her lips come down and a snort came out of them.

"Agh..." She grunted, almost rolling her eyes. "You just got here and you're already looking for her? Have a little fun with me, okay?" He tilted her head, looking at me hopefully. "Please?"

I smiled sideways, but I broke her illusions again when I moved my hand to her rolled arm behind my neck, gently removing it from me.

"She's my girlfriend, Layla. And remember that my only condition for coming was that she was also invited."

A pout puckered on her shiny lips, her arms crossed in an annoyed way and avoiding my gaze while she drank a sip of whatever was in her plastic cup.

"So could you tell me where Renee is? And by the way, behave like the adorable person I think you are. " I said, trying to convince her with my smile and funny look.

Layla had a good drink before looking at me again, still with some discomfort in it.

"I didn't promise to be nice to her. But..." She paused, looking at me from head to toe before she let out a sigh and started talking again. "The frog is in the backyard, taking a breath after I told her you weren't here yet."

"You're a sweetheart." I Smile. "I'll go get her, okay?"

"Yes... sure..." I prepared to leave, until the brunette caught my arm and gave me a little smile under the coloured lights in the room. "Don't forget that you owe me a dance, King of the List F."

My mouth rose, looking at her boldly before saying, "I won't let you down, babe."

I made my way among the people, saying hello to Baron and Brock who were quite drunk after playing beer pong with some girls I didn't really remember.

I managed to get to the courtyard of the house, where the noise diminished noticeably after I closed the window behind me.

More than a drunk boy sleeping in the grass or some couple trying to pass unnoticed next to the swimming pool.

Nothing out of the ordinary at a party.

But my attention was captured when I saw the backs of the blonde hair, making me smile and hurrying my way to the small staircase where she was sitting.

"Look what the wind brough." I said happily, taking a seat next to her as she turned.

"Hey." She greeted me softly, stirring a little. "I thought you wouldn't come."

"I was a little late, but I wouldn't leave you alone, and you know it" I smiled.

She gave me back the gesture timidly, moving her hands over her bare arms to get a little warmth.

"Oh, leave me."

"N-No, it's okay, Dean" She said nervously for some reason."I left my jacket with Paige, so I'll go get it..."

"Don't talk shit. I'm your boyfriend, let me do something nice without ruining it."

I took off my jacket, then delicately put it on her bare shoulders, covering them. Renee took the cloth, looking at me from the sideline before drawing a timid curvature on her coral lips.

"Thank you..."

I smiled sideways at her, again sitting at her side while holding my fingers intertwined to support my chin.

"Why are you out here?" I asked after a strange silence from her. It didn't take long for the woman to turn to me. "I thought we had agreed to meet outside..."

"Y-Yes, it's just that I... needed to think about some things."I raised an eyebrow, while her gaze was lost on another side than mine.

"Renee, is everything all right? You look strange."

Renee opened her mouth for a moment, but abruptly closed it when another voice interrupted us.

"Hey, Ambrose!" Baron exclaimed amusingly, tapping my back a couple of times as I pursed my lips.

It was always so fucking timely.

"Hey, Corbin..." I mumbled, looking at him from the corner of my eyes."What do you think of the party?"

"The best! Layla's done great! The List F are really the best, as a king you should be proud, dude!"

"Yeah... Sure." I smiled sideways."Corbin, you're drunk, right?"

"Of course n...Yes..." He laughed, seeing how my girlfriend shook her head but tried to suppress a smile. "But that's not what I was coming for. I wanted to know when we're going to smash the faces of those on List A..."

I frowned.

"What are you talking about?"

"Come on," He smiled bigger, putting his arms up."Don't play dumb, because of what happened a few days ago."

Shit.

"I-I have no idea what you're talking about, Baron. You're drunk." I jumped up from the step almost in a leap, rushing him away from Renee and push him into the house "Someone better get you home before you say more shit."

"B-But, Dean. We can't leave him like that," he exclaimed, trying to get rid of me pushing him into the house. "Those brainiacs must pay! Nobody messes with you, even Reigns!"

"Enough, Baron..."

"By the way, how do you feel after the beating he gave you?"

"Go fucking back inside."

"Does he hit too hard?"

"Inside!"

I ended up almost throwing him to the other side of the window, but someone caught it and I was able to close the sliding door tightly before he came out again.

Even though it didn't matter, I could feel Renee behind my back looking at me.

Baron son of a...

"You said you had fallen because you were playing with the boys in practice..." She said, approaching me with anguish in her eyes. "You lied to me."

"No, of course not!" She lifted one of her eyebrows, to which I could do nothing but surrender. "Okay, yeah. Maybe I did lie a little."

She took her gaze away from my face, clearly annoyed.

"But I did for you to not get worried, these kind of things are not important to you."

"They are, Dean." She looked at me again, reflecting irritation in her brown look. "Do you know how horrible it is to talk to anyone and to be recognized as the girlfriend of the king of the List F?"

"That never bothered you before."

"It's not that it bothers me, Dean." She gently denied before continuing. "It's just that there are times when I wonder if you have a goal. If you have a vision of your future, something..."

"Of course I have it." I approached her, placing my hands delicately on her thin waist. "You're my future, there's nothing else that matters to me."

For some reason, she closed her eyes, whispering between her teeth.

"What's the matter?" I dived with my voice almost lost, confused. "Renee, is something wrong?"

She pursed her lips, then carefully removed my hands from her. I almost felt her fingers trembling on my skin.

"Please don't say that, Dean." She looked at me, her eyes seemed to have crystallized. "I shouldn't be the only thing in your future, I can't be."

"W-What are you talking about? Why not?"

Her eyes were in mine, reflecting the perplexity in my gaze even as I grabbed her hands with certain desperation.

"Renee, we've been together a long time and...I know I'm a mess in everything I do, I always end up ruining everything. But...I love you..." I smiled slowly, begging for her gaze to separate from the ground. "I love you, and I don't think I can love anyone else. I want my future to focus only on you."

"That's impossible, Dean!" She screamed, letting her eyes filled with tears and her trembling lips be seen. "I can't do that! I can't let you think like that!"

"I-I don't understand what you're talking about, why are you telling me all this now?"

She paused, biting her lower lip and letting more tears fill her face.

"I'm leaving, Dean."

My expression changed, my eyebrows rose and confusion reflected on my face.

"We can talk about this another time if you want, and..."

"No, Dean." She interrupted me again, taking pains to leave her voice behind. "I'm... leaving the city."

My shoulders fell slowly, and little by little I felt my strength weakening as I had my lost look on her face.

"Look, I already graduated a few months ago and...I was informed that I have all the credits that were missing. I'm going to Toronto next week."

"Renee..."

"I'm sorry, but... I'm breaking up with you, Dean."

Something broke inside of me, struggling not to prove it by keeping my lips pursed and gaze on her.

"Is it because of what Corbin said?"

I let go, in a tone that almost ripped my throat no matter how low it was.

"Renee, I know I make mistakes all the time, okay? But that has nothing to do with us, I swear. We can fight this..."

"Dean, it's not just because of what Baron said." She interrupted me, paralyzing my lips right away. "The fights, the punishments, all this of being the sovereign of a List that's just classifying us all... These are things that affect you and me too. Lies and damage always affect both of us." A pause was made. "And that you don't have anything more planned in your future is not healthy."

"I don't understand."

The blonde briefly pursed her lips, looking at me for the first time with a hint of a smile. But this one did nothing but cause pain in my chest.

"You need to build your life, Dean."She slowly let go of my hands, then took off the garment she had placed on it minutes before. "A life like Dean Ambrose, not like the famed king of the List F."

She finally handed me my jacket carefully, keeping that curvature on her lips even though my gaze was lost on her face, in search of all the hope that had been shattered at my feet.

"Goodbye, Dean."

Her heels as she walked away became further and further away, almost inaudible to my ears at the moment I was paralyzed in my place.

For the first time, I felt my heart breaking and the pieces falling like stone at my feet, which no one would lift.

That's how finished the life of Dean Ambrose, the famous king of the List F and now a ridiculous guy that had been dumped.

"Hey, you."

Someone whistle behind my back, but I just turned around enough to see that brunette-skinned female.

"You could help control your friend, he's going to end up in the hospital at this rate... Hey, are you listening to me?"

I let the air out of my lungs, taking another breath before smiling sideways and turning towards the female.

"Calm that bad mood, Nia. You're going to wrinkle more."

"What? Your ass is going to wrinkle if you don't come here and control Baron, he's about to jump on the table, you know? Help before I beat your face in."

"Calm down." I smiled, putting on my jacket as I walked in her direction, I stopped near her. "The party is just starting."

What's worse than your girlfriend abandoning you for who you are? Surrender to what you are and drink to the point that you don't remember why your damn chest hurts.

My face felt strange, as if something scratchy was pressing against it. I barely lifted my head, finding the blurred image of a neighborhood as soon as I opened my eyes.

My head was spinning a thousand times, and I felt the hangover hit me hard.

"Damn it..." I snarled between my teeth, carving an eye as I struggled to stand upright on what I supposed was the lawn in the garden. "What the fuck happened last night?"

The only thing I remembered was watching Corbin dance on the table with Layla, while everyone was following him with their screams and humming over the music. These increased when I grabbed the first bottle of beer I saw, and after climbing up to the table next to me, I began to imitate Baron as he drank one drink after another.

I lost count on the seventh beer, I think.

"What time...? Oh, shit! Shit!"

I barely made it to my feet after seeing the time and running to where I remembered my car was.

I was late for Anderson's class, and I was warned that one more would make me fail the semester.

I hurried off, overlooking the fact that at some point during the night I lost my shirt and now I was only wearing my jacket over my bare chest. The car started, squealing away from the streets in the direction of school.

Shit, nothing could get worse.

My head was spinning, between the vague memories of what happened at the party and Renee's words that made me fall apart for the first time in a long time.

I figured it wasn't time to think about that.

She broke up with me, period.

I made it to school, quickly shutting off the engine and almost stumbling out of the vehicle to run into the hallways. Many people stared at me, not knowing whether it was just me or the fact of my unique personal presentation.

Regardless, I abruptly opened the history room door and entered the history room without a preamble.

"I'm here! I'm here!" I exclaimed, ignoring that I hit my arm with the door and walking through the hall. I went immediately to my desk, turning a blind eye to my companions, "I'm here, that's all that matters!"

"Stop there, Ambrose." Anderson spoke dryly, immediately paralyzing my steps down the little corridor. "Yes, you're here. Late, almost naked, and..." I heard how he smelled the air, cursing myself in silence. "Is it alcohol what I smell?"

Fuck...

The teacher paused, just before saying: "Out of my class, now. We'll talk later, Ambrose."

There was something worse than your girlfriend throwing you out; and that was being me.
