💀C H A P T E R O N E💀

It was lunch break at Averson High. As soon as the bell rang, students went out of their classroms to go get themselves a desirable meal after long hours of brain draining lessons.

Most of them went to eat at a local restaurant nearby, and some chose to settle by the school's cafeteria to get their lunches.

But as for Mia, breaktime only proves how much of a loner she is.

Instead of joining the others, Mia decided to stay in her seat and took out a book that she still haven't finished reading. While doing so, she nibbled on a sandwich that she prepared for herself earlier this morning.

"Nerd." Someone mocked and flicked Mia's book as they walked past her desk. She sighed. Why can't they just let me read in peace??

Unlike most teenagers, Mia was one of those unfortunate ones who suffers from a very tough highschool life. She was bullied and pushed over, and she was always the last one picked for everything. In short, she's a nobody.

That was the reason why she has always been distant from the rest of her peers.

She never had any friends, or at least true ones for that matter. She chose the stay inside her comfort zone, away from the judging eyes and two-faced people who only knew her when they needed something.

It's not even that surprising, toxicity is basically everywhere.

Mia's life turned into a living hell the moment she met Melissa Scott. And after that, she was always her target. Mia's goal was to stay under the radar and graduate, but when Melissa's in the picture, things just got a lot harder for her.

Mia didn't mind though, as long as they don't hurt her physically, it's fine.

She's been through worse anyway.

At the age of eleven, Mia got into an accident and went straight to coma for two months after she slipped on the bathroom floor.

When Mia finally woke up, she was finally discharged from the hospital two days later. She did experience minor headaches once in a while but the doctor told her that it was normal for a patient who went through a coma.

Mia thought things will be different when she went back to school, but it wasn't. It was still the same. She was still a nobody.

A nobody whom everyone loved to bully.

Pulled off from her endless trail of thoughts, Mia quickly shoved her book back into her bag and threw her trash on the bin before walking back to her seat.

As more students came in, Mia's eyes landed on a poster plastered on the side of whiteboard infront.

JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL PROM NIGHT
"A night to remember"
Sunday, 8:00pm at Averson Gym

There is no way I'm going to that party. Mia thought to herself.

But her thoughts quickly made a 360 degree turn when her mom came home carrying a dress borrowed from her cousin.

"Mom I don't want to go! Partying isn't my thing!"

"Oh grow up, Mia. Stop being so stubborn and be sociable for once!"

Mia didn't utter a word after her mom's words. It hurts to hear it, because her mom doesn't even understand what her life was like at school.

Why would she still keep trying to fit in when it was clear that she wasn't wanted?

But since there was no way that she could talk her mom out of it, she went to the party.

As they arrive at the venue, Mia's anxiety instantly kicked in.

That night, sophomore students entered the venue wearing elegantly designed dresses and cool looking tuxedos. It was indeed a night to remember.

Mia consciously looked down at her dress. An off-shoulder blue cocktail dress that went an inch pass her knees, along with matching white and blue three inches heels. Her hair was tied in a messy bun, and her make up made her want to cry because of the eyeliner. But she couldn't argue with her mom so she let her to her make up and everything.

And even though the prom was also about attending with a date, she didn't care. It's not like anyone would ask her out anyway.

As her father pulled over to the side of the road, she was reminded of a few things:

Don't drink liquor, don't talk to strangers, and most importantly, Don't. Talk. To. Boys.

Mia let out a dry chuckle at the last reminder which earned her a confused look from her father.

She was a nobody. And deep inside she already knew that she doesn't have the guts to talk to boys.

"Have fun, sweet pea." Her father gave her a reassuring smile and then drove off.

Mia looked up and stared at the huge door of the venue.

She sighed. This is going to be a long night.
