Chapter 50

I was ready for the first finals of my college career. How bad could it be, right?

I had nothing to distract me, and I felt confident I knew my material, so I was not sweating at all.

"Good luck sweetie!" Angel Facetimed me the day before my first final on Monday. Angel was absolutely glowing. I always thought she was super beautiful, but pregnancy made her stand out even more. She did not have her standard long weave in and her natural hair had grown quite a bit. It was longer and thicker than the weave she wore.

One look at Angel and I could tell she used to be a model. Besides the height, she simply had the face to model.

"Thanks, Angel." I cringed when I called her by her name, but she did not seem to mind.

"No matter what you know your father and I are proud of you."

"Thanks for believing in me. Thanks for not giving up on this little poor wretched girl that gave you hell at first."

"You were a kid, I didn't think bad of you."

Now she was lying to me. "Oh come on, I know you thought I was a BeBe kid."

Angel laughed because she knew I was right. I laughed at it too. Angel could have held all the bad things I did against me, but she did not. I was not that young when she met my father, just very immature. Wanting something that was never meant to be.

"I can't wait to get home and get my new car...I mean present."

"Uh, just focus on your exams little girl, don't worry about what your father and I have for you. Bye, love you."

"Love you too."

I needed to go into my final week of the semester stress-free, so I called up Todd and told him we did not need to study again.

"Why not?" he asked, and I could tell he did not like hearing this.

"Because I think you want something more than what I want. I just want a friend. I don't want you to misconstrue what we had. Just friends."

"But...I thought if we were both free to date each other, you wanted to date me?"

At one point I thought was pretty cute, smart, and funny, now I did not feel those things for him. I had to trust my instinct and just let him go.

"I'm sorry, I can only offer you friendship."

"Okay, fine!" he snapped then hung up on me.

Well, that did not go well. Hopefully, after finals and break, he would be over it.

With that out of the way, I also had to tackle my roommate situation. They were not bothering me at all, but we still had not had a sit-down discussion about everything.

"I just wanted to let you guys know I'm sorry about what happened, with my friends. I hold no bad feelings toward you guys and we did have some fun. If I see you guys around campus, we can at least be cordial to each other, right?"

Twyla sat on the sofa and looked down at her hands planted on her lap. Her stomach had started to show now, especially in the tight shirt she wore. Allura sat beside her and looked at me blankly, not saying anything.

"You won't see me," Twyla said softly. "I'm not coming back."

Whoa! I had no idea she decided to not come back to school. Probably because, well, she was having a baby. I did not know what to say to that, so I kept quiet.

"Then you don't have to move out Rayvn," Allura said.

"Huh?"

"It will be you and I, and maybe we get another roommate. Yeah, Gay can move in, she's here like she lives here anyway."

I don't know if that was a great idea. I felt like the bridge was burned on that one. Allura already proved she could go behind my back and do sneaky things. like, tell Diallo I was messing with another guy. For me, once you burn down a bridge, you could not rebuild it.

"What about if my friends come and visit me again? Can they stay in my room?"

"Absolutely not I want to see those stupid bitches again."

Well, so that was that, and it sealed my decision.

Gay and I were already assigned a new room in a different residence hall and we had to come a day early to move out things from our old rooms to our new rooms. It was a suite again, but instead of a three-room suite, just the two. I would be far away from Allura and far away from Diallo.

My first final was my very first class, English 101 with King. Seeing him I smiled. He was the only one that seemed to still be my friend from the beginning of the semester.

"Hey, ready for this?" I asked him.

We did not have a test, we had to present our papers orally, which I knew I would suck at. This was not a communications class, and I hated public speaking.

"I'm glad I took this class in my second year. It sucks," he said.

I wrinkled my nose at him. "But you're getting an A."

"Doesn't mean the class doesn't suck."

After I fumbled through my presentation, I breathed a sigh of relief.

"Not bad," King said to me when I sat back down.

He was being nice. I knew I was horrible. I needed to practice public speaking more. If I did it more often, maybe I would not be so bad at it.

"It was a lot better than how you stumbled down the stairs on the first day," he said holding in a laugh. "You stayed on both of your feet."

I gave him a playful punch on the arm.

Now when King did his presentation, I saw the difference. He was confident in what he said, he gave the students in the class eye-contract. He did not stutter as I did. His voice was projected and loud, and the students seemed interested. I was a little starstruck by him.

But I was not going to tell him that.

King and I needed to stay in the friend zone. I did not want to ruin what we had.

"Yo Fresh," he said to me as we were leaving class.

"What's up."

"I'm going to miss you over break. Hell, we won't have a class together next semester."

"I'm sure we can still hang out."

He nodded as we walked. "Yeah, I heard about you and Mr. Bigshot guy."

I had not told him, but it had been weeks now, and Diallo was a big deal on campus as the President of ABC. And apparently, a hot commodity with other girls. I saw him with several, but it was not my business, and I was not going to assume anything.

"You could have told me, but it's no big deal. Long as we're still cool."

"We are."

"A'ight, text me over break. In fact, hit me up when you get back to the crib, St. Louis."

He leaned over and hugged me, and I felt so relaxed in his arms. I hugged him back. We just stood there, holding each other, and it felt right.

Then he walked off all cool. I felt like that was an invite for something more than just friends. Again, I would not assume.

I smiled to myself because King was still a great catch.

The rest of my finals went on like a blur. Some of my teachers already had my final grades for me by the weekend and I was cheesy so hard because it was good enough. Good enough I should have a new car when I came back next semester.

As I packed loads of things into my car the day before I was headed off, Diallo saw me in the hallway holding two loads of dirty laundry. Angel liked cleaning, she would love the present I was bringing home to her.

"Hey, need some help?"

"No, I have it." And I didn't just as the elevator door opened, I somehow tripped walking in, dropping one of my bags as clothes spilled out.

Great! Diallo would see my dirty underwear. I quickly went to grab the things as he held the elevator door open for me.

"Come on, let me help," he said, taking a bag from me. "You're not superwoman."

"I am!" I said to him after I gathered my things.

We both stood in the elevator, quiet, waiting for it to descend on the first floor. I wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible, Diallo still made me feel woozy when I was near him. Yes, he was not Mr. Perfect anymore, he still was super gorgeous.

We walked off the elevator, still not saying a word. By the time we made it to my car and tossed my bags in the trunk, he stopped me and held my arm.

"Hey Rayvn, I just want to say I'm sorry how everything went down...I was wrong. I jumped to conclusions about you...and that guy, and I was wrong. I should have trusted you."

Whaaat? Wait, what was he trying to say to me?

"And uh...I miss you."

My heart stopped beating, I swear. I was about to pass out.

"Rayvn, I want another chance."

My mouth moved but no words came out.

"It's okay, you can think about it." He pulled me in his arms and hugged me tight to him. "I want to be a better boyfriend to you, I promise I will."

And just like that, I was stressed out again.

A/N: And we end the first semester on some drama as only I can do. The same question as before, Diallo or King?
