Chapter 4

4 months later...

Zelda's POV

I took in a deep breath as I walked inside the castle. This week has been tough in more ways than one. All of the new champions have disappeared, and I don't have a clue what happened to them. The only thing that we know is that they all disappeared in a cloud of black smoke.

"Princess." A guard nodded in my direction, but I ignored him. I have more pressing matters to deal with. I walked over to the giant table that I and some of the guards set up to see if we could find any similarities.

"What did you guys find?" I asked, leaning against the table, as my exhaustion kicked in. I hadn't slept very much in the past four months, I've just been so worried, and it's all come crashing down on me.

"Princess, you need a break. Sit down." A guard said quickly, bringing a chair over for me to sit on.

"Thank you" I murmured before turning back to my head guards.

"Well, Princess, we have heard news about Link." A head guards said, and I sucked in a breath, this was the first thing we had heard in weeks. We thought that we had gotten a lead, but it ended up being a dead end.

"And?" I asked, my heart beating rapidly in my chest "What is it?"

"Well, his stuff has been moved from his home in Hateno Village. We don't know when it was moved, but the majority of the stuff is gone. We've had guards at the house night and day, so the only people who could have gotten in or out were people who knew the house. We think that Link might have somehow gotten past our guards. He might have had help." He finished

I immediately jumped out of my chair, knocking it over in the process.

"Anything else? Has anyone else seen anything?" I looked at all of my head guards, hoping that they had something else to add. The only way we are going to be able to find the Champions is with Link's help.

"That's all that we have right now, we still haven't been able to locate Epona. We are assuming she is with Link, wherever he is." Another head guard said.

"I'm going to Hateno Village then." I said quickly, turning around and starting to head towards the stable. I almost got all the way out of the castle before someone caught up to me.

"Princess- Wait!" One of the head guards caught my arm, turning me around to face him. "It's dangerous to go at night, especially since the monster population has been increasing with every disappearing champion. We need to ensure you are safe!"

I quickly shook off his arm, annoyed. "You don't understand!" I yelled, my anger rising, "We need to find him!"

"Princess, I understand you are upset, but you haven't had a good sleep in quite a while, and you can't go on your own in your current state." The guard sighed

"What's your name?" I asked quietly, looking at the guard

"Excuse me, Princess?"

"You heard me, what's your name?"

"Zeke." He said softly, clearly confused as to what I was doing.

"Zeke... Do you have anyone that you care about so much, so deeply, that you would do anything for them?" I asked

"Well..." He glanced to the floor before looking back up at me "My wife is about to have our first child." Suddenly his eyes lit up and he smiled brightly. "I would do anything for them."

"Then you know exactly how I feel about Link." I murmured quietly, this was the first time I had admitted my feeling out loud and hadn't kept them bottled up.

"Princess, I had no ide-" Zeke started, but I quickly shushed him

"Please don't tell any of the other guards, just promise me you will help me." I pleaded.

"Princess, you know I can't let you go out today... It's my job!" Zeke pleaded, clearly trying to talk me out of it.

"Look, Zeke, you seem like a great person, but I can't just sit here knowing that Link might be so close!" I said, my anger rising yet again.

"Princess, you can't bargain with me." Zeke sighed, "I promise we will go tomorrow. I will make sure of it."

I sighed softly, allowing myself to be defeated. I could go on all day and all night, but Zeke clearly wasn't going to budge.

"Fine, but we are leaving as soon as possible. Promise?"

"I promise" Zeke nodded, "Now let me walk you to your room."

"Thank you Zeke." I murmured, following him towards my room. "I know you are just doing your job." I added, "And I'm glad, because I've been really reckless when it comes to Link" I smiled at the thought of him, shaking my head at myself.

"That's what love does." Zeke shrugged, "Ah, this is where I leave you Princess." Zeke added, opening the door to my room for me.

"Thanks Zeke, you're a good guy." I smiled, "I guess I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Promise."
