Sadness put it's cold lips on mine
And kissed me.
It was long, lingering kiss,
Long enough to draw out and extinguish
All the light
That remained in me.
Leaving me empty,
A shell.
Their lips tasted of ash and debris and sawdust
But it also tasted like danger.
Of cigarettes and cider and blood
That sweet taste of escape
That I long for so.
I felt their deathly cold hand
Caress my cheek,
Stealing away the flushed color of my cheeks
And leaving them pale as a cabbage butterfly's wing.
I felt my heart stop as they drew away
And my legs gave beneath me...
