Chapter Ten: Dead End

A week passes by and you'd think we would have gotten somewhere but nope, you are completely wrong. Who would have thought Mr Wei or his son was so good at hiding their location. I thought we were going well with the investigation since we had a pretty big clue to go off on but I was wrong again.

Monday rolled around and I started the week full of excitement. Waking up early and riding the train with Jungkook.

"So how many books did you get through last night?" I inquired as the train begun to move.

"A half?" He smiled nervously as he held up the book.

"You had ten hours and you got through half a book?" I deadpanned, repeating what he claimed.

"Yes?" I sighed in defeat as I let my body slump back and into my seat.

"Did you at least find anything?" A hopeful tone laced my voice as I prepared myself for good news.

"Oh, do you wanna know the actual reason as to why vampires can't out in the sun?"

"You are a ghost, not a vampire, I swear if I could touch you, you would have received a beating by now." I spoke as my jaws locked together in fustration.

"Let me suck your blooood." He teased.

"Nooo, Jungkook go away." I chuckled before adjusting in my seat.

"Hahahah, I'll TRY to get through the rest of the book okay?" He promised.

"You better." I sent him a glare and he flashed me a cheeky smile in return. That was basically Monday. It was really just reading. After work finished I went back to grab a few books for myself to read at home, so that Jungkook and I could double the reading time. Of course, I was not expecting Namjoon and Yoongi to find anything on the first day with them helped me investigate.

Tuesday rolled around and I decided to do some investigating at the office. Not saying I was stalking but I think that's exactly what I was doing. I made excuses to walk past Mr Wei's office often which he never seemed to leave, even for his break. That man literally lived in his office, I left for home earlier than him so I missed the chance of maybe seeing him go anyway.

Wednesday, the day I was hoping for something good to happen with the investigation but nothing. I have been putting extra effort in such as waking up early to snoop the office but nothing. Namjoon had told Yoongi and I that he had been doing some digging into the whereabouts of his son but nothing so far. I tiredly made my way to the station in a zombie-like matter, not even bothering to give Jungkook a look as I slumped down onto the seat in the train carriage.

"And I had some good news." He pouted as I walked straight past him. As soon as I hear the word good come out of his mouth I quickly perked up from my seat.

"DID YOU SAY GOOD NEWS!" My eyes widened in hope.

"Yep, the first thing is... I finished all the books you brought me." He held up the stack of books with a proud smile.

"So did you find anything?" I further inquired.

"Yes actually, quite a lot."

"And?" I gestured for him to continue.

"There weren't a lot of things about ghosts and being able to see the paranormal but they all said one thing. Apparently being isolated or being alone for a long period of time will cause people to...." He trailed off as the tension became dense. "I mean I am not implying that~."

"It's okay Jungkook, that's pretty spot on." I chuckled nervously. My gaze turned from his figure to the window outside, showing the fast scenery flashing past. "I don't think I have told you but I have been homeschooled pretty much my entire life, I don't know why but my parents just liked it better and thought it was more convenient." I begin to explain. This theory was pretty spot on and I believed it myself. Because this had happened to me. "That resulted in a pretty lonely childhood, I remember whenever we had family gatherings I would find it hard to interact with other children my age. When we finally settled in Anyang my parents decided to finally allow me to attend my last year in high school where I learnt how to interact with others." Jungkook pressed his lips together sympathetically and flashed me a kind smile. "I mean it was a lonely childhood but my last year of high school was one of the best years of my life and I created amazing memories hence the reason I still live in Anyang." I tried to lighten up the tense mode I had created with telling my story.

"Maybe that is it." Jungkook thought aloud.

"Yeah but I'm sure I'm not the only person that would have experienced a lonely childhood or be isolated, I mean it does make sense but there have been thousands of people that have ridden this train, are you telling me I am the only one that can see you?"

That was some information that brightened up the draught of information during that day. Thursday was the same, nothing really just some progress with Mr Wei's son's whereabouts who we eventually knew as Dou Wei.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday. The same routine except on my weekend breaks. Wake up early and research, online, on foot, on train. I went everywhere. Libary, places Dou has said to have been spotted but nothing. I wasted no time on food, I knew I had to eat and I would occasionally snack on a piece of fruit but that's all I really had. I was way too focused on investigating I didn't give my body enough time to relax or catch up with my hard work. Dark circles began to form below my eyes but I will soldiered on. I was determined to find him and confirm my suspicions.
