Broken

A/n: requested by the fabulous Calaerdes_of_Mirwood hope you enjoy this Mellon nin. I also got the idea for the Re Ohtar (she-warrior) from the Greek lengends of the amazons.

You giggle and duck out of sight from Lindir. He looks around the courtyard, before seeing a rustling behind the bushes. Lindir creeps over to the bush before jumping behind it. He cocks his head to the side when he doesn't see anything.

You giggle again. Lindir glances up to the tree and points his finger at you. "Ha I found you!" He shouts. You shake your head, the braid that had been done by your mother, coming out.

"You have to catch me first!" You tell and jump down. Lindir laughs and takes off after you. He chases you all around Rivendell, until you finally run out of breath. "You're really fast!" He huffs, putting his hands on his knees (me in high school gym class 😂)

You giggle. "No, you're just really slow."

Lindir shakes his head. "I'm not slow!" You nod your head. "Yes you are!" He laughs and gives up. With you, there was no point in winning the argument.

Over the next few centuries, you and Lindir remained best friends. He had become an apprentice to Lord Glorfindel, your father, in hopes of becoming an advisor to Lord Elrond. You on the other hand, had become a member of the Re Ohtar, an all female army of elves that fought in the Second Age.

Now, you were returning home after being away for three hundred years. Glorfindel and Lindir were both ecstatic to see you, and you them. Specifically Lindir. You had grown to miss that darling Ellon more that you cared to explain. His smile, his soothing voice, the kisses on your hand, you could go on for hours.

When Lindir saw your horse approaching, he ran down the stairs and welcomed you with open arms. "Welcome home Mellon nin." He whispered in your pointed ear. You smile and hug him again.

"It's good to be home Mellon nin. Where is Ada?" You question looking for Lord Glorfindel. Lindir nods in the direction of Elrond's library. "Where he usually is."

You blush and link your arm with his as you walk that direction.

"How have you been Y/n? Rivendell has not been the same without you." You shrug. "I've been good. On the road most of the time, but have I got stories to tell you." Lindir raises an eyebrow. "Really? I have stories to tell you too?"

Before you could question him, the doors to the library open, revealing Lords Elrond and Glorfindel. "Ada!" You say, wrapping your arms around the blonde Ellon. Glorfindel smiles and kisses the top of your head.

"My Re Ohtar. I have missed you so much." You feel tears well up in your eyes hearing your father's voice again. Lord Elrond smiles and places a hand on your shoulder. "Welcome home Y/n. I must say that Rivendell will feel whole once again."

You laugh and wipe your eyes. "I have missed you all so much."

Lindir blushes in the background, looking down at his feet. Just then, you hear a melodious voice approaching. You turn to the direction of the voice, and feel your eyes widen at the sight before you.

A blonde Elleth, had come up and hugged YOUR Lindir from behind. The next few minutes took your breath away completely. Lindir smiled and brought the Elleth around and kisses her!

You raise an eyebrow to your friend, as the Elleth deepened the kiss. You clear your throat. "Ahem. Lindir, who's your little friend here?" You question, trying to sound sweet but your father could hear the poison dripping from your lips. He gave you a slight nudge.

Lindir breaks away and blushes even more. "Y/n, forgive me. This is P/y/d/l, (Person You Don't Like) my fiancé." P/y/d/l smiles and kisses him again. "P/y/d/l, this is Y/n. She's one of the Re Ohtar, and she's been my best friend since we were elflings."

Your grip on your father's robes tighten at the word, fiancé. Glorfindel not that you've become quite pale, and excuses the two of you.

Lindir gives you a concerned look. "Mellon nin, will you be at dinner?" You nod. "Yes, I just felt dizzy suddenly."

As soon as you were in your old quarters, you collapse on the couch. "How long has she been here Ada?" Glorfindel kneels down next to you, stroking your hair. "She ca,e a week after you left. Lindir greeted her at the gate."

You sniffle. Sure you were one of the toughest soldiers, but you still had feelings. "I love him Ada. That's the only reason why I came back," you sit up and Glorfindel sits next to you, enveloping you in a hug before you continue. "I didn't want to spend the rest of my days without him."

Glorfindel strokes your hair. "I know. Your nana was the same way." You recalled the tale of how your parents met on the battle field. She had saved his life, and shunned the Re Ohtar to start a life with him.

You stay in your father's embrace until the dinner bell was sounded. As you approach the dining hall, several elves welcome you back. You smile and give your thanks, but your smile drops when you see P/y/d/l and Lindir walk in, arms linked at their sides.

Lindir sees you and waves to you. You flash a smile to him, but it quickly turned to a fake smile as you see him point you out to her. The couple makes their way over to you, her arm tightening around Lindir's arm more.

Throughout dinner, you and Lindir catch up. P/y/d/l interjects a few words here and there, but you ignore her. That is, until she says something about your profession as a soldier.

Your eyes snap up at her. "Excuse me?!" Lindir glances to his fiancé and back to you. P/y/d/l shrugs her shoulders. "I just don't understand why an Elleth like you would want to join the Re Ohtar. Or any Elleth for that matter."

Lindir drops his spoon in his soup, and looks to you for a reaction. You flash a fake smile at her. "I'm defending the free people of Middle Earth, what is so wrong about that?"

She shrugs her shoulders again. "Just seems more of a Ellons job. Elleths belong at home with their children," she gasps, covering her mouth. "Oh wait, you don't have children or an Ellon to love you do you?"

You swallow hard. "Excuse me. I seem to have lost my appetite." You get up and walk calmly away from the table. Lindir looks to his fiancé, angered. "Why would you say that?!" He whispers and gets up to follow you.

"Y/n! Y/n please wait!" Lindir cries into the night.

No answer.

He sighs and looks around for you. He eventually gives up after a half hour and goes back to the dining hall. Little did he know that you were hiding in plain sight.

Over the next few days, you stay in your quarters, only coming out for meals. Everyone had begun to notice that you were changed. You purposefully avoided Lindir and her, but when you did see them together, you would bow slightly and walk away quickly.

Lindir hated it. All he wanted to do was spend alone time with you, but P/y/d/l clung to him every waking moment. Eventually, he found some alone time and headed to your quarters.

Glorfindel frowned when he saw the brunette Ellon. "I don't think you should see Y/n. She is not well." Lindir's shoulders dropped. "Oh. I just need to explain myself to her..." he gets cut off by Lyrath the healer who emerges from your bedroom.

"I'm sorry my lord. I'm afraid she's fading."

Glorfindel sits down on the chair, his heart thumping in his chest. "May I see her?" Lindir asks the physician. Lyrath nods. "I think it would do her some good."

Lindir thanks the Ellon and runs to your bedroom. When he opens the doors, he is topped by the sight before him. You were lying in bed, pale having trouble breathing. Your eyes were closed, but Lindir could see tear lines in your cheeks.

Lyrath puts his hand on Lindir's shoulder. "I fear she has a broken heart. Whatever you have to say, say it now." Lindir rushes for the bed, taking your hand in his. "Oh Y/n please don't leave me. I can't lose you."

You open your eyes at the sound of your name. When you see Lindir sitting there, you reach up to him with weak arms. Lindir immediately takes you in his arms, stroking your hair.

You cry into his shoulder as you cling to him, like you did so many years ago when your father died. (For those of you who don't know, Glorfindel is killed by a balrog, but the Valinor decided that he wasn't done yet on Middle Earth so they bring him back to life).

Lindir could feel your heartbeat through your shirt. It was beating slowly. He kisses the top of your head over and over again, whispering sweet words of comfort in your pointed ear.

"I love you Y/n. I love you so much." He meant it as a kind of brotherly love, but the more he thought about it, the more he realized that he didn't mean it like a brother.

In that moment, Lindir realized that he wanted to spend the rest of his long life with you. He wanted to have children with you, dance with you, kiss you whenever he wanted, comfort you, and be there for you.

Your sniffles died down, and you looked at him with tears eyes. "What did you say?" Lindir cupped your face with both of his hands, wiping stray tears away. "I love you so much Y/n. I was a fool not to see it before."

You sniffle and wrap your hands around his wrists, leaning your forehead against his. The two of you stayed that way for a few minutes, until Glorfindel clears his throat. "I take it you will be breaking your engagement to P/y/d/l?"

Lindir looks to the elf and back to you. "I will, that is if Y/n will have me?"

You nod vigorously and wrap your arms around his neck, kissing his gently. Lindir kisses you back, putting a hand behind your head. You finally had your one. The one you would spend the rest of your days with.
