{31} PACKING TAKES A LOT OF EFFORT I DON'T WANT TO SPEND {31}

"What do people even wear in Greece?" I asked.
Annabeth laughed. "Clothes, Seaweed Brain. Like, shirts, shorts, pants...ever heard of them?"
I nudged her. "I know that. I meant, is it hot there, or cold, or...?"
She smiled. "It's like the same weather as we have here. Hot summers, warm springs, cold winters."
"What about fall?"
"It's a mystery."
I laughed. "Alright, so you need to pack summer clothes. How much?"
"Well, we will be there a month, so I probably need about ten pairs of everything, since we can wash stuff."
I nodded. "Right."
Annabeth began sorting through her clean laundry, making piles. She asked me about a couple of clothing items, and I gave her my opinions.
"What about this?" she asked, holding up a spaghetti strap tank top that was reddish orange.
I shook my head. "Too flashy."
She rolled her eyes, holding up a similar grey top with a halter neckline and lace embroidering the hem. "Better?"
I nodded. "Yep, with some jean shorts and a belt."
Annabeth laughed. "Give it up for Percy Jackson, outfit designing, stylist extraordinaire."
I grinned. "You know it, baby."
She dug through her clothes, grabbing a few more shorts and tops. "That should be enough. I'll probably need a swimsuit though, huh?"
I shrugged. "Couldn't hurt."
Annabeth rifled through her drawer and pulled out a mint green triangle bikini, and a navy halter top bikini with white polka dots, as well as black bottoms.
"I think that's enough clothes," she told me. "Hopefully, anyway. Want to grab something to eat?"
"I'm always up for food," I responded, smiling.
"Okay, Helen made chicken salad yesterday, and we have plenty of leftovers."
"Sounds good," I said, getting up from the floor and following Annabeth to the kitchen. There, she grabbed us a plate each, took out a loaf of bread, and grabbed a container full of chicken salad.
"Have at it," she said, laughing.
I scooped some onto my bread and then sat at the breakfast bar, munching on my sandwich. Annabeth sat beside me.
"I can't believe that you're already leaving for Greece."
"Yeah, in a couple days. This summer has flown by, it's crazy."
I nodded, solemnly biting into my sandwich. "Remember when we went to the zoo, and all of the birds were squawking like crazy at that guy, and then they finally slammed against the glass and scared the life out of him?"
Annabeth smiled "Good times."
"You know, you have to repay this favor. I need to start packing for camp. I'm leaving the same day as you."
"You're such a procrastinator," she sighed. "I can come over tomorrow while Dad and Helen are packing the twins up."
"Alright, great." I paused to take a bite. "Helen's a great cook," I stated.
"Don't talk with you mouth full of food, Seaweed Brain," Annabeth chastised.
"Yes, Mom."
"Don't get me started on that again, Percy. You remember last time."
My eyes widened. "Yes. Sorry, sorry, I know, bad habit."
She rolled her eyes. "Only you."

Sunday, 7-8-18
It was insane how fast the summer had passed. I guess the saying "time flies when you're having fun" really was accurate. It had been almost two months since Spring Fling. Annabeth was leaving in two days, and not returning for forty more. Yes, I counted.
"You need more than three pairs of shorts, Percy."
I shook my head. "Nope."
"What makes you think that?" Annabeth asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Shorts don't typically get dirty. I can switch off for the week, then wash them at the end."
"You're going to a physical summer camp, Percy. It isn't like school. You'll be learning, yes, but there's also races and rock climbing and much more. Bring at least five pairs," my mom instructed from the kitchen.
Annabeth was helping me prepare for the camp that Mr. Brunner was hosting, the day after I had helped her pack for Greece. We were sitting on the couch in the living room, making a list. That's how Annabeth wanted to do it, so that's what we did.
"So, five shirts, five shorts, one pair of jeans, a hoodie, a rain coat, ten socks, and whatever else you spot while packing," Annabeth concluded. "Ready?"
I nodded, so we got up and transferred to my bedroom. I packed everything that I needed rather quickly, and then we moved to toiletries.
"I need soap, huh?" I stated.
Annabeth laughed. "Yeah, probably. It's not likely that they'll provide it, especially since this is the first year. It's like the pilot episode, you could say."
I rolled my eyes, a small smile dancing on my lips. "Yeah, okay. Be right back."
I went to the closet in the hall and grabbed a travel size version of my shower essentials. You know, the small samples you get when you buy a certain amount of things from a store.
Bringing the goods back to my room, I wondered if I would enjoy the camp. I hadn't thought about it much because I was spending my summer with my best friend. Since the rest of our typical friend group was away, Annabeth and I had lots of time to spend together before we parted for about a month.
The camp was called Camp Half-Blood. Half-Bloods were the supposed result of an affair between a god and a human. At the camp we could sign up for certain lessons such as Greek culture or Roman culture, sculpting class, and a mythology lesson that delved deeper into the world of monsters, gods, and half-blood descendants. They also had archery class, sword fighting lessons, and relay races. I was very excited, especially since a lot of my school friends were going. I knew for certain that Rachel, Charles Beckondorf, Silena, Clarisse, and my little cousins Nico and Bianca were attending. In fact, all of them except for Rachel had been at the camp since the beginning of summer.
I was supposed to arrive there on the first day of June, a Friday, but I had asked Mr. Brunner if I could start late. He begrudgingly agreed, so I was able to stay with Annabeth for the remainder of her time in New York. I had decided that if I liked the camp and wanted to go again the following year, I would start on the official date. The camp ended on the day before my birthday, the seventeenth of August, a Friday, so luckily I wasn't leaving early as well.
"This camp sounds really fascinating," Annabeth mentioned while I loaded my products into a smaller bag that I was going to fit into my duffle bag. "I really wish I could go."
"Maybe next year," I said.
"Oh, for sure. You'll have to fill me in when I get back from my trip. Maybe we can go somewhere together to talk, seeing as it'll be your birthday anyway."
"Yeah, I can meet you at the airport, if that's okay. Then we can grab pizza at the parlor and catch up."
She nodded. "Sounds perfect."
"I can't wait."
Yeah, I was excited to try something new and experience the camp, but I also couldn't wait for my birthday. I couldn't wait to spend more time with Annabeth. I missed her already and she wasn't due to leave for a couple more days. I couldn't even imagine the torture my heart would be going through about a week or two into camp.

Another day, another chapter! How'd you like it? Was it any good?
As a little warning for your hearts, next chapter is when everybody leaves and splits of for a little over a month. AHHH. Yeah, I'm sorry, but it has to be done. The time apart will convince Percy of...some things :)
I'm sorry if the large time jumps are too much. The next few chapters should go back to normal, but I really wanted to get to this time period, so I wanted to skip through the start of summer. If you really want, I can do a couple bonus chapters of random trips the cuties took during June/July, but they wouldn't serve any importance to the plot (AKA why I didn't write them LOL)
If you enjoyed, be sure to leave a vote! We almost have 200, which is crazy! Thanks, guys! Also, comment your favorite brand of shoes, because I love shoes haha. I'd say Converse, but Nikes are bae too and Vans have a place in my heart.
