Part 2--Chapter Sixteen

This is pretty much book two but I didn't want to start another thing so here we are. I hope you enjoy.

When Michael woke up, a light drizzle was falling. The cloud-filled sky made it impossible to tell what time of day it was. He was still clutching Nora's lifeless body to his chest. He was shivering from the cold as he lifted her up, carrying her bride-style toward the small cabin that he knew would be close.

The cabin was small, compared to his house, dusty, and filled with spider-webs, but it immediately made Michael relax. Before...everything...this cabin had been where he and his family had gone to get away from the world. Some of his happiest memories had taken place here. As if moving in a trance, Michael set Nora down on his bed, and made his way through the house, looking for the long forgotten book he would need to set everything right.

He stepped into his father's office and sneezed as the dust swirled. The walls were lined with bookshelves, filled to bursting with books. Michael ran his fingers over the spines as he walked around, searching for a particular book. This book had started everything, and now it would help him finish everything. But first, it would set the events of the previous days right. It didn't take him long to find it. His father was a very organized man. A brand new tornado of dust swirled around as he slid the volume off the shelf and opened it.

He wandered back into the bedroom, thumbing through the pages. When he found the page he was looking for, he hesitated, remembering what this spell had done to his sister, but he pushed the thought away. He set the book down, open, on the bedside table and drew a chair up to the side of the bed. Nora looked almost peaceful laying there, and for a moment, Michael just stared at her. She was still damp from the drizzle falling outside. He reached his hand out and brushed a stray hair out of her face.

He let his hand linger on her cheek before turning back towards the book. He read through the ingredients list, sighing in relief as he recognized everything on it. It was short list filled with mostly common herbs like aloe, achiote, garlic, comfrey and calendula. Michael knew that he could find all of these relatively easily around the cabin. Years ago, he and his family had had a garden full of them. There should have still been remnants of it.

He was right. He found all five of them within a half of an hour. His arms loaded with plants, he made his way back to her side. He grabbed an old mortar and pestle off of a shelf and began grinding and mixing them up into a poultice. The wound was in her back, so he had to turn her over in order to spread the poultice. Most magic didn't require herbs and things. It was only the really powerful spells, like this one. All of those fantasy novels and movies say that it's impossible to bring someone back to life, but as experience had taught Michael, that was bull-shit.

He glanced at the book again, making sure he knew the words by heart. He placed his hand on Nora's back, and with a deep breath, he began.

I know. I know it's been over a month.

I am so sorry to anyone who liked my consistancy, but school started and I got super busy.

Then my grandpa died so I was busy and not in the mood to write.

Anyway, I'm back now. I won't be publishing every day, but I will be publishing once a week.

I also wanted to thank y'all for the over one hundred views. It means a lot.

See you next week!

xoxo
