Chapter Two
I plan on writing one chapter every day, but we'll see how it goes. Sorry if I miss a couple days, but for now the streak continues. Please comment what you think or if you have any ideas for this story or another that I should write.
Nora went home that day bone tired. In Emma's description the house had definitely seemed big, but Nora didn't think she had ever seen a house quite this big. It was beautiful, no doubt, but cleaning it was a nightmare. Then again, for fifty buck an hour she decided she'd do it anyway.
The next day she returned and was greeted by Emma again. Michael was in his room, the only room in the house that Nora had not gone in to clean yet. She hadn't watered the garden yesterday, so she decided to start with that. It was a beautiful garden. There were flowers of all kinds, and too many fruit trees to count. The lawn was slightly overgrown, but that was only because Nora hadn't mowed it yet. Yesterday she had almost roasted to death in her jeans, so today she was wearing shorts and a crop top. She didn't normally dress like this, but she was too hot to care. It's not that she didn't like the way she looked enough, she just didn't see the point. Nora had just started watering these beautiful white flowers when she heard the voice. She thought they were a type of Lily, but she didn't know enough about flowers to be sure.
"Run while you still can," the voice whispered. It could have been male or female, a child or an adult. It was simply a voice. Nora stopped watering.
"What?" She asked.
"Run before it's too late," the voice came again.
"Who are you? Where are you?" Nora whispered. She didn't know why, but she felt the need to whisper.
"It's no use. She will not go. She is the one destined to stay," a different voice said. She didn't know how she could tell, but the voices were definitely different. They seemed to be coming from the flowers. She peered closely at the beautiful white lilies, but saw nothing out of the ordinary.
"And it is our destiny to keep all who enter here safe from the evils inside," the first voice retorted.
"Why do you never listen to me?" the second voice responded. They seemed to be arguing.
"Because you are seldom correct."
"How dare you!"
"How dare I? You are the one who must always correct me!"
"I do not!"
"Do too!"
"Do not!"
"Do too!"
"Excuse me. But can you elaborate on the warning you gave me?" Nora interrupted their squabbling.
"See? She wants to be warned. I told you," the first voice said.
"No. She wants to here from me you dimwit," the second voice corrected.
"I don't care which one of you I hear from, just one of you tell me what's going on!" Nora said, fighting to keep her voice low. The first voice spoke up.
"There is a great evil in this place. It is rising. You must run before it is too late."
"What great evil? That's absurd," Nora replied.
"A great great evil. That is all I can speak of it. I have warned you. It is up to you now how you will shape your destiny." Both voices fell silent.
"That's not helpful. Tell me what's going on. I can call the police." Neither voice replied. "Hello?" she tried again. Still nothing. After waiting for nearly five minutes she realized she must look very odd staring into and talking to a clump of flowers. She straightened up quickly and tripped over the hose, falling flat on her back with a surprised cry. She sat up, rubbing the back of her head. She just sat there for a moment before deciding that the voices hadn't been real at all. She was probably dehydrated. She stood and left the hose where it was. She'd come back for it after she cleared her head with some fluids.
