Chapter One
Nora looked down at her phone, and then back up at the mansion in front of her, making sure she had gotten the address. She wiped her palms on her jeans and took a deep breath.
"Just don't mess up. Just don't mess up," she told herself firmly as she walked up to the front door. She pressed her finger to the doorbell and heard a complicated ring go off inside. The door was opened almost emmediatly by a boy who looked to be around her age. He had jet black hair, pale skin, and the most peculiar green eyes. They had gold accents and they seemed to change colors in the light.
"Hello?" He said.
"Hi. I'm Nora Haley. I'm here to clean your house," Nora said, trying to act like she hadn't been staring.
"Oh. Right. I guess you can come in," he said, stepping aside. The inside of the house was just as stunning as the outside. Everything inside was placed in perfect symmetry. The colors complimented. Even the floor seemed to match perfectly. A beautiful crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling in the living room.
"Hi! You much be Nora," a girl said, coming to greet me.
"So you hired her?" The boy said.
"Yeah. After our last cleaning lady quit, we needed someone and Nora's website caught my eye," the girl responded. They were clearly related, probably siblings. Her hair was also black, but it hung long and straight down her back. She too had green eyes with yellow specks, but she seemed much more friendly.
"Why can't we just take care of the house ourselves?" The boy persisted. Nora wished he would shut up. She needed this job.
"If you want to clean this entire house yourself then be my guest, but until then, Nora will be helping out." Nora was beginning to like this girl. The boy just scoffed and turned away.
"Bye Micheal," the girl said sweetly. Micheal didn't respond. "So. On your website it said you would do anything?" She asked Nora.
"Within reason. I won't do anything that endangers my life. Not that I think you would. I just meant-" Nora was cut off by the girl's light laughter. "I'm gonna stop talking now," Nora said, smiling slightly.
"It's okay. After your less than warm welcome from my brother I get why you're a little on edge," the girl responded. Nora didn't want to insult this girl's brother so she just didn't respond. "Okay. Well, all we really need you to do is vaccuum, dust, and of course take care of the garden. Does that sound okay?" The girl asked.
"Yeah. I hate to ask, but what are you paying me? It's not that I only care about the money, but I don't think we discussed it," Nora said awkwardly.
"Oh of course. How does fifty dollars and hour sound?" Nora almost fell over. Fifty dollars and hour was way more than she usually got, but she wasn't about to tell this girl that.
"Sounds perfect," she responded.
"Awesome. Let me give you the tour. I'm Emma. You've met Micheal. My parents are away this weekend, but they'll be back by Monday. This is the entry hall. That way is the living room and past that is the dining room. Throught there is the kitchen and down that hallway is the spare bedroom, spare bathroom. Upstairs is my room, Micheal's room, my parents room. There are three bathrooms upstairs. One of them in my parent's room and the other two in the hallway. Um. Let's see. Oh. Downstairs is the gaming room and the theater. You won't have to do much down there. The closet with all of the cleaning supplies is the first door on your left upstairs." Nora wasn't sure she had gotten all of that. Emma had spoken very quickly, but Nora just nodded and smiled. She would figure it out.
"Should I start now?" Nora asked.
"If you can then that would be great. I'll be upstairs if you need me okay?" Emma responded. Nora nodded and watched Emma make her way upstairs. She then looked around and wiped her hands on her pants again. Time to get cleaning.
