Chapter Eleven
"Okay. Before we actually make a plan, I need to know exactly how this magic thing works. Can anyone do magic or were your parents born with it? How did you get it?" Julia asked. Michael thought for a moment.
"I don't really know how to explain it. Do you have a piece of paper or a whiteboard or something?" He asked. Nora emmediatly grabbed a whiteboard and marker from Julia's desk and handed it to him. He uncapped the pen and thought for another moment. "Okay. I'm just warning you, this might not make sense."
"Well let's hope it does," Julia responded, giving him an encouraging nod. He drew to circles next to each other, and two more below them. He labeled the top two mom and dad, and the bottom two Emma and me.
"Okay. Let's start with this. Anyone can theoretically do magic as long as they have the right words, but for someone who doesn't already have it, it is incredibly difficult. My parents didn't have it, so the spell they used took both of them to complete and it almost killed my mom, but it didn't. Get it?" He asked. Nora and Julia nodded slowly. "Most families are connected by blood. The only people who aren't are the parents, and if they are then that is just...so wrong. Anyway, magic travels through blood. Not literally, but if a person has magic, their children will also have it, and their children after them. As the magic goes down through the different generations, it gets weaker and weaker, until, eventually, there isn't any left. The same goes for when spells are used on family members. When my parents used magic on Emma to bring her back, the magic went into her, and because we're siblings, some of it made it's way to me. But like I said, as magic gets further and further from the source, it gets weaker, which his why Emma is so much more powerful than me." Michael paused at the confused looks on the girls' faces.
"Wait. So then why don't your parents have magic now?" Julia asked. Michael went back to the whiteboard. He drew a line connecting his mom and dad to Emma, and then a line connecting Emma to himself. Then he drew another line connecting his parents to Emma.
"So, imagine these lines are the magic. It's like a circuit. Energy, or magic, travels in one direction, and like some types of circuits, it gets weaker the further it gets from the source. There are two 'currents' going into Emma, and only one into me, and since magic only goes in one direction, it stopped at me, and even if it had looped around, my parents would have gotten the weakest magic."
"Okay," Nora said slowly. "So is that why you need those words to do magic, and Emma can just wave her hands?"
"Exactly. Because her magic is stronger than mine."
"So if you were to go up against Emma head on, how long do you think you would last?" Julia interjected. Michael bit his lip, thinking.
"Half an hour at best. It depend on how desperate she is to be rid of me. If she uses the strongest parts of her power, I doubt I would last more than fifteen minutes. Protecting someone else as well as me, not even ten." Julia nodded slowly, and then pressed her hands together.
"Nora, I know what we're gonna do today," she said.
"Um. Okay. What's the plan?" Nora asked, confused by her wording.
"What? Okay you really need to watch more television."
"I promise you if you get us through this, I will watch as much of whatever as you want," Nora responded, trying to hurry her along.
"Okay. Well what I was trying to tell you is that I have a plan, but you might not like it."
Yes I am a huge nerd and yes I just made another reference to another tv show.
It's a kid's show but it used to be one of my favorites.
That isn't the point though.
I hope you enjoyed.
I just want to let y'all know that starting this week, Monday thru Friday the chapters are going to be coming in closer to eight or nine pm because I am starting school. Ugh.
I still plan on writing every day, but the chapters will be published kinda late.
Sorry about that.
Comment and stuff and I will see you tomorrow.
xoxo
