"She what?" The surprise and concern in Charlie's voice caught Juliet off guard. She was sitting in the living room, a small canvas sitting on a mini easel in front of her. She'd been too wary to leave Charlie alone when he got home from work since Bella left, and he wouldn't say it, but she knew he appreciated it. She'd been sitting on the floor painting while Charlie watched ESPN when the phone had rang, though she hadn't really been paying attention until now. "How did that happen?" She'd set her brush down now, leaning back against the recliner behind her as she listened.
"No, no. I had no idea." He now sounded more confused than worried, though that still remained. "He was?" Juliet stood up, curiosity getting the best of her. "Oh." She saw her dad frowning as she entered the kitchen. "Yeah, thank god." He looked up, and Juliet raised an eyebrow at him. "Yeah, yeah of course. Here, will you tell Jules? I have to go look at those prices." Juliet looked confused as Charlie held out the phone to her. He mouthed Renee so she took it, and he left the room.
"Mom?" Juliet spoke into the phone. "What's going on?"
"Oh, it's so good to hear your voice honey." Renee sighed. "You need to call me more often, I miss you."
"Sorry, mom, I kinda forget-between work and school and stuff." Juliet frowned, leaning against the counter. "Is this about Bella? Did something happen?" Renee sighed again.
"You know how she came back down here?" Juliet nodded, humming a response. "Well that boy Edward and his dad and sister Alice came here too, he was trying to get her to go back home. Bella agreed to talk to him and went to his hotel. She was on her way up to meet him when she tripped down some stairs and fell out a window."
"She what?" Her mirror of Charlie's reaction made Renee chuckle.
"God, you are so much like him." She breathed. "But don't you worry, she'll be fine!" Her voice was back it's usual, upbeat tone. "We're so lucky Dr. Cullen was there, I swear, that man looks so young to be a doctor. And the girl, Alice, ugh! She's a sweetheart, have you met her?"
"Uh, no not yet." Juliet's eyebrows furrowed together. She didn't even know what Edward himself looked like, let alone had she met his family. Charlie's words before he handed off the phone popped into her head. "What was dad going to look at the prices of?"
"Oh, plane tickets!" Renee said, as if she herself had also forgotten until now. "When Bella wakes up, I wanted you to come down here. Just for a weekend, nothing big. Ease his mind by having you check on her, plus I get to see you for a little while. I hope that's alright."
"Oh. Yeah, of course mom, I want to see you too." Juliet couldn't tell if she'd meant her words or not. Of course, she did want to see her mom-it'd been over a year-but did she want to see Bella. Even if she had gotten hurt, Juliet couldn't just forget about what had happened when she left. She didn't think she ever would. The look on Charlie's face as he watched her leave was ingrained in her memory, playing over and over again at the front of her mind all day, everyday.
"Great!" Juliet could hear Renee's smile. "Oh, I can't wait. You really need to visit more, maybe you could come down during the summer." She could hear someone call Renee's name. "Oh, that's the doctor. Tell Charlie I'll call later, okay? I love you, honey."
"Love you too, mom." The line went dead a few seconds later, and Juliet put the phone back on the receiver. Her mind wandered as she walked back to the living room and sat down, staring blankly at the half finished painting in front of her.

The air was hot in her lungs as Juliet stepped off the plane, her eyes instinctively squinting. She quickly shoved her barely used sunglasses onto her face as she walked down the stairs, already eager to be out of the heat. Phoenix was probably one of her least favorite places, it was too hot and too dry. She didn't want her flights to be longer, but she was happy that at least Jacksonville wasn't in the middle of the desert. The air conditioning inside the airport felt like heaven as she navigated through the crowds to get to baggage claim.
"Jules!" Renee was, of course, already waiting by the baggage carousels when Juliet arrived.
"Hi mom." Juliet smiled as Renee pulled her into a crushing hug.
"Oh, look at how pale you are." Renee frowned as they pulled apart. "God, that lack of vitamin D cannot be healthy, honey."
"I take those gummy supplements mom, I'm fine." Juliet resisted the urge to roll her eyes. The intercom stated that the bags for her flight were about to start coming out, so she and Renee stepped closer. "So, how's Phil?"
"He's so excited." Renee gushed. "And I am too! Jacksonville is just the best, Jules, oh, you're gonna love it!" Renee's excitement was infectious, and by the time they were getting into the car, Juliet also wore a large smile. After a quick coffee stop, they went to the hospital.
"So how is she?" Juliet had decided that she was only doing this part for Charlie. She'd keep it short, but not let her mom catch on to any negative feelings Juliet now harbored towards her sister.
"Getting better by the day." Renee confirmed. "I tell you, it's something to do with that boy. Whenever he's around she just seems to liven up so much."
"Yeah." Juliet nodded, not knowing what else to say. They soon reached her room, and Renee pushed the door open.
"Hi honey, I brought a special visitor." Renee spoke as she stepped into the room.
"Who?" Juliet could hear Bella's voice, and she tried not to frown. Renee looked back at her, motioning for her to come in.
"It's...your sister!" Renee smiled, wrapping an arm around Juliet's shoulders. "Charlie wanted to come but I wouldn't let him take the time off work. Besides, I missed this one too much." Renee pinched Juliet's cheek lightly and Juliet shrugged her off. "Do you need anything? Any food?"
"I could use a snack." Bella nodded. Renee hurried out, shutting the door behind her. This left just Juliet, Bella, and who Juliet could only assume to be Edward Cullen in the room. He was sitting next to her bed, his hand interlocked with Bella's. "Hi Juliet." Juliet's gaze turned harsh.
"I'm just telling you now, I'm not here for you." The words flowed angrily, but easily, from Juliet's mouth. "I'm only here to check on you for Charlie and to see mom." Bella frowned. "You don't know how much you hurt him, Bella. You broke his heart."
"I wasn't trying to I just-"
"Yes you were." Juliet interrupted. "Don't lie to me, you knew exactly what you were doing. You knew what those words would do him, that's why you said them." Bella stayed silent, so Juliet decided to continue. "You made him cry, you know that? In my entire life, not once have I ever heard dad cry until that night. And it's your fault." Bella cringed.
"Juliet, I-"
"No, I don't wanna hear it." Juliet huffed. "I think you shouldn't come back, Bella. I think you should go to Jacksonville with mom and Phil."
"What?" It was Bella's turn to be angry. "Why?"
"Because I don't want you back." Juliet asserted. "My life was perfectly fine before you showed up. And since you left, things have finally felt normal again. You were right, Forks didn't work out. So you shouldn't come back." Before Bella could respond, the door opened again.
"I didn't know what you wanted, so I got a few things." Renee said as she walked in, kicking the door lightly to shut it behind her. "Oh, and I got you a coffee too. I figured you could use it."
"Thanks mom." Bella mustered a smile as Renee placed the small bags and coffee cup on the small tray.
"Of course, sweetheart."
"Hey mom, I'm feeling kinda tired from the plane ride." Juliet's voice was level again, and Renee turned towards her, missing the glare that now set upon Bella's face. "Could you run me home?"
"Right, I didn't even think about that." Renee nodded, turning back to Bella who dropped her glare immediately. "Will you be fine for a couple of hours? I'll come back to say goodnight."
"Yeah, I'll be fine." Bella nodded. Renee leaned over, kissing Bella's forehead. "Love you mom."
"I love you too, Bella."
