Chapter 1 || Giving thanks

After eight hours of practice, Jihoon found himself unconsciously walking toward his studio, his mind filled with nothing but ideas for the rest of the song.

It had been two days since he last worked on it, having found himself at what he would call a 'writers block'.

He was frustrated with himself when he was unable to think of anything more at the time and as the two days had passed, he couldn't help but feel as if he were slacking off.

Every time he walked past the practice room, he would see Soonyoung who was now more commonly known as Hoshi, working himself as he thought of the choreography or tried to improve it, if only slightly. And if he passed the studio, he would find Seungcheol, who was more accustomed to S.Coups now, with Hansol who went by the name Vernon, helping him with his rapping so that he could improve as well.

Everyone was working hard and he was just stuck.

He recalled Jeonghan, Jisoo who preferred Joshua all of a sudden, Seungkwan and even the ever annoying Seokmin who called himself Dokyeom or DK for short, had offered to help him with the song.

However, the boy had declined, and not too politely as you would think, saying that he could do it by himself when in actual fact, he didn't want to give them extra work.

He felt the song writing was his job and if he could start it without help, he could finish it without help.

S.Coups had told him just that morning before practice that it wasn't his fault he was stuck at a wall.

However, Jihoon felt that him being the leader of twelve members, he was obligated to say that.

As he typed in the four digit code, he felt himself being watched, but he paid no mind to it as this was probably the thousandth time. Ever since he had gotten there, even before they had debuted, he had this feeling so you could say that he was used to it. He knew that nobody was actually watching him, it was just his imagination.

Shaking his head to clear his mind, he opened the door and entered the familiar room, having grown accustomed to it after coming here each and every day, be it with the other members or not.

He recalled the past two days when he reached his hand out to open the door, but only ended up freezing in mid air.

His stomach growled out of hunger and his body protested in pain, but he ignored it as he took his seat at the desk that was labelled his; the studio having a desk for each of them. Some of the members shared with others just for the fun of it, but nobody shared a desk with him.

He suspected that they were doing it knowing he disliked people going through his things.

The first time he was writing a song for the group, S.Coups, ever clueless, had tried to read the incomplete version and this only caused Jihoon to flip out on him, demanding he not look at anything incomplete. To put it simply, the boy had caused a bit of a scene.

Slowly, he picked up the headphones rested on the desk as he switched the laptop he had taken there on, only putting the headphones on after.

A sigh escaped his lips at the feeling of familiarity; something he hadn't felt for a while.

He adjusted his seat before he began working on the song, only finding eight lines there before he found himself tapping at the keyboard, the ideas flowing from him like a river. As this occurred, he seemed to lose his awareness as he sat up in the chair, rigid and not aware of the blonde boy entering the room.

He had entered not so subtly as well as he ended up tripping over the brick they used as a door stopper and causing one of the items to fall to the ground with a loud smash. He had somehow caught himself and the parcel in his hand before straightening.

He had picked the item up with his free hand and smiled as he noticed that it hadn't been damaged.

The smile widened as his eyes caught sight of the oblivious boy before him.

Said other seemed to be rather occupied as his fingers moved quickly over the keys, the headphones now on his head rather than around his neck; something that had been made a habit but none other than the boy himself.

He was alerted as the boy moved, his hands removing the headphones and placing it on the closed laptop.

Deciding to make his presence known before he was wrongly accused of trespassing on 'Jihoon's time', Soonyoung cleared his throat before exclaiming in the happiest voice ever, "Jihoonie, did you finish the song?"

What Soonyoung didn't expect though, was for the smaller boy to get startled. He noticed how he jumped a bit in his seat and this action alone was something very much unlike him. If Soonyoung knew anything about the boy that everyone knew as well was that Jihoon never got frights. He was never startled, no matter what.

So this action alone caused the the older boy to scrunch his face in confusion, however, he didn't question it. He knew that if he did, Jihoon would just deny it. It was something Jihoon was very well known for by the rest.

When the pink haired boy finally turned in his seat to face the other, Soonyoung could not hold back the shock at Jihoon's appearance.

It was not the fact that he looked horrendous because, in Soonyoung's appearance, Jihoon never looked like that; he always looked adorable.

To put it simply, the younger boy was cute, short and deadly.

But what had truly shocked him was the dark rings beneath his eyes which showed the lack of sleep and the exhaustion in the boy's eyes. That was something extremely rare as Jihoon rarely ever showed what he was feeling. He always hid his emotions well as it was a tendency of his.

"What is it, Hoshi?" Jihoon asked and for the first time in so long, you could actually hear the exhaustion in his voice. Soonyoung carefully eyed the boy this timehaving note this, but before he had the chance to answer, the boy asked, "Why can't you call me Woozi like everyone else?"

Soonyoung shrugged and smiled, looking at him before replying, "I think Jihoon is more personal, so you can feel free to call me Soonyoung. But seriously, did you figure out the rest of the song?"

"You call everyone by their stage names, you can do the same for me as well you know," he replied coldly, packing his things as he expertly avoided the question.

"Jihoonie, answer the question," Soonyoung whined out, trying to get the other to open up about the song, if only a little bit.

Once again, the other boy avoided the question, instead asking, "Why are you here Hoshi?"

At this, the boy looked away, turning serious. He was now fiddling with the brown paper bag that contained lunch he had gotten for the both of them, unsure whether the boy had eaten or not. It was exactly that thought that made Soonyoung mentally hit himself across the cheek because at that moment, when it was already too late, he realized that he should have asked first before he bought the food. The next thing he thought was what if he had gone there and Jihoon hadn't been there in the studio. He could have gone looking for him, but that would be both creepy and suspicious.

"Soonyoung, is something the matter?" Jihoon asked, suddenly as serious as his friend was, so much so that he used his actual name instead of his stage name.

This in turn caused Soonyoung to be pulled from his train of thought as he looked at Jihoon again, surprised, but he decided not to say anything. It would only mess things up.

So instead, Soonyoung held the paper bag out to his friend and smiled.

"Just thought you might be hungry."

Instead of replying himself, it was his stomach that gave him away as it growled out at the sudden whiff of food.

He felt bad as he stared at the boy who bought the food, knowing fully well that he had done it especially for him. He felt a bit guilty when he knew he shouldn't. He felt like a bit of a burden all of a sudden.

Jihoon hardly ever let his team members in when he was working on a song. It wasn't that they were annoying, but, even after the whole S.Coups looking at his song incident, they still tried to let him show them his song before it was complete. He only showed them complete songs even though he knew he shouldn't. He knew he was writing the song for twelve other members excluding himself and one that the fans would enjoy, it wasn't for himself. They had a right to see it, but he felt like, until they were finished, they were personal.

So it was a habit to not let them in, even if he was done and was just sitting there, thinking.

The exceptions were, in cases like this, where they let themselves in and sometimes brought him food.

Soonyoung was the third person to do this.

Pulling himself out of his own thoughts, he found Soonyoung taking a seat at the desk beside him.

He then proceeded to pull two hamburgers out of the brown paper bag before handing the wrapped item to Jihoon.

"Oh, Jihoon, they only had juice pouches, is that all right?"

Jihoon was suddenly caught staring at him as Soonyoung turned to look at him to see whether he was truly all right with it.

"Yes, that is okay, thank you," Jihoon replied automatically as he took the juice pouch from his friend, looked away and began unwrapping the food item and he began eating, involuntarily analyzing the boy beside him as he did so.

He realized one thing: the boy was a mystery. When you thought you had him figured out, you find you were wrong.

So as Jihoon and Soonyoung sat in the studio beside each other, eating in silence, images, questions and thoughts filled their heads about each other. Soonyoung was on Jihoon's mind just as Jihoon was on Soonyoung's mind and neither of them had any idea.

When the two finished eating, Soonyoung decided to break the silence as he said, "You shouldn't stay here too long, Jihoonie."

"Why not?"

Soonyoung shrugged and looked at him.

"S.Coups said that I should tell you."

'S.Coups sent you here then, Soonyoung?' Jihoon thought to himself, just a bit disappointed.

Before Jihoon could muster a response to stop the air fill with silence, Joshua entered the room, coming, by S.Coups' orders, to fetch the two.

The moment the three of them made eye contact, Joshua narrowed his eyes in an accusing manner.

"Why did you two not give thanks before eating?" he wanted to know as he glared at both of them, causing the two boys on the other end to fidget considering it was rare to be on that side of Joshua's glare.

'Busted', they both thought to themselves.

"Okay, so yes, S.Coups sent me to fetch you two, but there is something more important to be done here. Let me bless you two before I take you to S.Coups," he said, taking one step forward, causing the two boys to get out of their seats.

"Run?" Soonyoung asked, briefly glancing at the boy as he whispered the question.

"Run," came Jihoon's whispered reply, nodding and briefly glancing in his direction before nodding his head in the direction they should go.

This went unnoticed by Joshua.

And so, the two boys made a dash for it, Joshua running after them as he called out, "The Lord will forgive you both, he holds no grudges!"

As they dashed past S.Coups, he smiled before saying, "I can see them later Joshua!"

"He's not going to save us?" Soonyoung demanded.

"Some leader," Jihoon muttered.

And just as the two made it to the front door of the dorm, they felt their collars being pulled as Joshua gripped it, having finally caught the two.

"Let's go boys."

Their night ended with a two hour lecture from Joshua.

It was safe to say that they had learnt their lesson.
