Puzzles, Dogs, and Pasta (Part 2)
The world returned to its colorful state and the dog couple walked off. You and the two children weren't too far behind.
You three approached Papyrus's next puzzle, the X to O puzzle. You all decided that you would all take turns with these puzzles, as you all knew it would get difficult for all three of you to go at the same time. Chara would supply a little help from above while you and Frisk followed along to get through them quickly.
Once you had solved the puzzle and hit the button, you three walked over the once impassible spiked ground. You found Papyrus in the next area.
"Humans! You managed to solve my puzzle! But, there are still more puzzles ahead! I'm sure you won't be able to get past the next one! Nyeheheheheh!" Papyrus shouted, running off yet again. Sans was no where in sight.
Chara offered to go back and get some nicecream for the three of you in case you needed them. You and Frisk stayed behind and waited for her. Sans finally showed up.
"Heya. Where's Chara?" He asked.
"Getting us some nicecream in case we need them in battle. I'm surprised we haven't gotten to the spaghetti trap yet, though. That should've been before we got to the dogs," you said. Frisk nodded in agreement.
"Well, this timeline has undergone a few changes. This time, the spaghetti trap was put farther down than the previous ones. It's strange, but I'm sure it's fine," Sans said.
"I hope so. I'd hate for anything bad to happen. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact me and Frisk fell together and Chara joining us and being a pacifist," you said.
"That may be the case, (y/n)," Frisk said, moving their feet side to side.
"Yea, no doubt about it. I'm not sure if there's anything more to these minor changes or not, though," Sans said. Chara floated over and gave you and Frisk some nicecream.
"Thanks Chara," you said.
"Thank you," Frisk said.
"No problem."
"Well, let's get this show on the road guys," you said, standing up.
"I'll see ya later," Sans said, vanishing yet again.
You were quite curious as to whether there are other things going on besides these few changes, but you pushed the thought aside as you and the kids walked over to the next area.
There, you found the spaghetti trap. The note was lying there, with the same text as before. The spaghetti was frozen and the microwave wasn't working, as usual. The three of you saved and moved on.
You saw Papyrus standing in front of his usual tree. The X to O puzzle ahead. He took notice of you.
"Humans! You managed to escape my trap? How! Did you even eat it?" He asked.
"No," Chara said.
"You forced yourself not to eat my pasta so you could save it for me, didn't you? Well, you didn't have to! I have much more at home! Now, here is the next puzzle. Since you were taking so long, I tried to redesign it into the shape of my face. Sadly, the snow froze back up and now the original solution is ruined! However, worry not! I, the Great Papyrus, will help you if you ask! Good luck, humans!" Papyrus said. You giggled a little and let Frisk start the puzzle. You went to distract Papyrus while Chara started to hover above the puzzle to help Frisk. The layout was different than the previous timelines.
"So you've never seen a human before, have you, Papyrus?" You asked him.
"No! Not until you three showed up, that is. But I always stayed hopeful that I would find one eventually! I would capture them and bring them to Undyne! After that, I would be guaranteed a spot in the Royal Guard!" Papyrus said.
"Done!" Frisk and Chara said in unison.
"Nice!" You yelled back, giving them a thumbs up.
"Wowie! You solved the puzzle without my help! Bravo, humans!" Papyrus said. You smiled and walked over to Frisk and Chara.
"Well, no time to waste! I must go to the next puzzle!" Papyrus said, running past you.
You three proceeded and came upon the tiles puzzle.
"Behold, humans! The amazing tiles puzzle, invented by the great Dr. Alphys!" Papyrus said. He explained the rules.
"Does that make sense?" He asked. The three of you nodded.
"Splendid! Now, when I pull this switch, this machine will generate a random layout of tiles! I will not know the solution because the puzzle will be an entirely new one! One that has never been seen before!" Papyrus said, flipping the switch. A moment after the tiles started to flash, a line of pink tiles with red on the outside appeared. Papyrus had an expression of pure confusion. He stood upright and spun his way out of the area. You and Chara stifled a laugh.
"Cmon, guys," you said, walking over to Sans. He was smiling, as usual.
"Yep, never gets old," he said, looking back to the tiles. You smiled.
"Yep. Well, we gotta forest to finish getting through. See ya Sans," you said, walking over to the next area.
There was just a bunch of broken snow dogs with enormous necks. A bipedal deer looking fellow stood looking at the scene.
"Such a sad story behind these snow dogs. A white armored dog walked in here, full of inspiration! They wanted to build a snow dog that captured their emotions. Sadly, as they kept building, they became more and more excited and eventually their poor snow dogs collapsed. It was quite pitiful, but I couldn't look away," he said.
The three of you approached the save point and saved the game. Afterwards, you moved on to the next area.
Another X to O puzzle surrounded in ice. Chara floated above and led you through the puzzle. Frisk got picked up by Chara once the puzzle was solved and was set next to you. She landed and the three of you stepped through the now open passage through the heavily wooded area.
You all got out and had snow shapes on your heads. Chara had a Christmas hat, Frisk had a snowman, and you had a cowboy hat. You shakes the snow off and proceeded to the next area.
Mounds of snow littered the area and the three of you checked all of them. You gained some gold and approached the last snow poff.
A dog's head popped out and a moment later, the rest of its huge armored body emerged. You entered a fight with Greater Dog.
As the fight went on, Frisk ate their nicecream and you were considering the same.
Finally, Chara was able to spare Greater Dog. The small dog jumped out and have the three of you licks before jumping back, head first, into the suit. It's tail peeked out of it as they walked away.
You giggled and moved onto the next and final puzzle. The bridge.
As you approached the end of the bridge, you saw Papyrus and Sans at the end to greet you.
"Humans! Go no further! I have created the ultimate puzzle! The Bridge of Great Human Doom! ... It's a work in progress name. Anyways, once I hit this button," he said, the weapons appearing as he spoke, "these weapons will activate! Chances of surviving is very little! Good luck humans, because I. Am going. To activate. The bridge!" He finished, slowing down towards the end.
Nothing was happening.
"Uh, that doesn't look very activated, bro," Sans said.
"Shut up Sans! I am about to activate it now!" Papyrus said, his finger hovering over the button.
"Well, what's the hold up, Paps?"
"What hold up! Can you not see that I am about to press the button now!" Papyrus said.
"Bro...just activate it," Sans said.
"Um, you know what? I, the Great Papyrus, finds that this puzzle is...um...too much! Yes! Too direct! Where's the class? The style? The greatness! Yes, yes! It simply will not do! I will just have to defeat the humans in a different way! The Papyrus way! Nyeheheh!" Papyrus said, letting the weapons disappear. He ran off again.
"Let's go," you said to Frisk and Chara.
"Yea, I knew he wouldn't activate that puzzle," Sans said.
"We did too," Frisk said. They lead the way into Snowdin. You saw a few speakers playing the Snowdin theme, like an amusement park with the speakers playing music as you walked around looking at the rides.
