Introductions

"The reason why I chose you is because I've been trying to talk to the soldiers to reach their military leader, but they don't trust me or anyone else I've sent to do the job." Commander Morrison explained in an irritated tone.

"Okay, but why me specifically?" Mark prompted curiously.

"You have plenty of friends, I think it should be easy enough for you to convince one of the soldiers to bring you to their leader so we can talk." Commander Morrison elaborated.

"Go on now, their camp is by the docks where their ships are being repaired." Commander Morrison nudged Mark in the right direction before walking off.

Mark let out a long sigh as he did as he was told, wondering if he really would be the best candidate or not.

"Um, hello?" Mark spoke up hesitantly once he reached the entrance of the camp.

Instantly all eyes swiveled to face Mark to scrutinize him, causing Mark to flinch back slightly in response due to intimidation.

"Who are you?" One man with scruffy brown hair and crystal blue eyes spoke up curiously as he stepped to the front.

"I'm Private Mark Fischbach, I'm only here to talk." Mark assured him.

"What makes you any different from the other American soldiers that came to talk?" The man asked.

"I...I'm not brave like any of them, I only volunteered since my older brother was drafted. All I want is for this to be over, but for that to happen, we need your help." Mark admitted.

The brown haired man's expression softened slightly as he stepped forward so he was directly in front of Mark.

"Nice to meet ya Mark, I'm Sean McLoughlin." The man introduced himself with a grin as he raised a hand up for a high-five.

Mark gladly high-fived the Irishman, relieved that he was accepted.

"Ya know, you're the first American I've met that hasn't come here just to tell us that they're here to help us or that they're better than us for being American." Sean remarked.

"Man, my friends are dicks then." Mark mused.

"Sean, who is this man?" Another man spoke up as he walked up from behind Sean.

He was dressed in a wrinkled uniform, his shirt black hair sticking up in various places and his chocolate brown eyes glimmering with curiosity.

"Major Sean O'Sullivan, this is-"

"I'd prefer to hear him introduce himself Sean, thank you." The major smiled kindly.

Sean nodded in embarrassment as he fell silent, his gaze dropping to the ground.

"I-I'm Private Mark Fischbach, um, I was sent here by Commander Ken Morrison to talk to you about, uh, talking to him about....stuff." Mark stammered, unsure how to sound polite in his request as well as friendly.

"Okay then Mr. Fischbach, you can take me to your Commander Morrison man." Major O'Sullivan agreed.

"Ooh, can I come?" Sean asked hopefully.

"Sure Private McLoughlin." The Major smirked.

Together the trio walked back to the HMS Dreadnought to find the commander with Mark in the lead, his unease gradually dissipating as he listened to the major and Sean talk and laugh behind him.

"Hey Mark, who're they?" Amy prompted as she watched them board.

"Major O'Sullivan and Sean McLoughlin." Mark introduced the two to her.

"Nice to meet ya." Sean grinned.

"A pleasure Captain Nelson, I've heard stories of your adventures." Major O'Sullivan politely saluted to her.

"Major, we need to discuss our possible alliance." Commander Morrison interjected impatiently.

"Very well Commander Morrison, I'll show you our little rebel camp if it makes you happy." The Major conceded before leaving the ship with Commander Morrison in tow.

"Uh, so..." Sean trailed off awkwardly.

"You can hang out here awhile if you want, I'm sure the others would love to meet you." Amy offered.

"Really? I'd love to!" Sean shouted excitedly.

"I mean, I appreciate your offer. I will gladly accept." Sean sheepishly spoke in a softer tone.

"Are all you Irish people that loud?" Mark laughed.

"No, just the awesome ones." Sean replied proudly.

Mark and Amy walked down below deck with Sean to introduce him to the crew.

Instantly he seemed to connect with Mark and his other friends as they sat down at a table together.

They learned that Sean was from a wood cabin in Athlone and the youngest sibling of the seven in his family, his oldest brother being Malcolm.

Together him and his brother had agreed that they didn't like the Irish Neutrality Law, so they decided to take action by joining Major O'Sullivan's small group of Irishmen that wanted to defend their home.

When they caught word of an incoming German attack through their spies, they decided to set up several tents by the docks so they would be there to stop them upon arrival.

"That's pretty cool." Wade whistled in amazement.

"Good on you for stepping up to make a change." Nate chimed in.

"T-thanks." Sean stammered, his face blushing a light red in embarrassment at the compliment.

"Sorry to be a party pooper, but I'm going to bed early." Mark yawned, feeling exhaustion behind to take hold once more.

"Understandable, I mean you just woke up from a month long coma." Bob shrugged.

"What?!" Sean exclaimed in disbelief, eyes wide in shock.

Together Mark and his friends recounted the story for him, watching as he changed from awed, to terrified, then amazed once more.

"...and now I'm awake again and back in the line of duty." Mark finished, gauging Sean's reaction.

Sean sat in silence for a moment as he soaked in the new information.

"You're a fucking bad ass motherfucker!" Sean laughed abruptly, clapping a hand on Mark's back.

"I think you and I will get along just fine Mark."
