Prologue
Katie Mitchell knew life for her would forever reside around the reservation she was born and raised on and the small town just a ten minute drive away. All of her fondest memories were held in this area and she had no intent of travelling away and losing touch with the memories and the people.
La Push was a small village located along the Olympic Peninsula and was pretty sleepy in Katie's own opinion. With a population of around 200 everyone knew everyone, but there was very obvious divides between generations. This therefore making it pretty peaceful. The tribe patrolled most things themselves, kept most of it between their own members rather then looking to the outside world. And it wasn't something Katie was against, she liked the close knit community feel they had and she knew this was where she belonged and would always be able to call home.
All of the memories that Katie held with her mother were all linked to different places around the village, from the coast line where they would come and picnic in the evening of the school holidays, to the woods they would go hiking. All when her mother was well enough to do so. And after the passing of her mother when Katie was 15 there was nothing she could think of which would drive her away from the place that held those memories.
Therefore, when Katie was looking for local jobs, she realised she had to go a little out of field. The village only had a few places someone could work in and job advertisements were far and few in between. That was how she had ended up going to the local town of Fork to try and find something that would allow her to bring in an income. Because despite knowing that there was a roof over her head Katie liked the idea of having money. And if she desperately wanted a dog she would need to save for one first.
Katie had very little success with jobs until she applied to work for the local police force. At first Katie thought she had applied to be a receptionist, that was until her interview. And after what felt like an incredibly long training course, Katie walked out as a police officer mainly assigned to the town. But Forks also technically covered the policing for La Push, and as the only officer who was from the area Katie was very quickly assigned as the officer looking after the village.
But she was getting used to her job, after all it had been three years. She was used to what kind of calls she would get and some of the cases she would experience.
That was until what was thought to be a standard Welfare check changed her entire life course.
