chapter one

November 2017

The car drove down the dark long street. Inside sat two girls, chatting and smiling. Blissfully unaware of the dangers ahead.

"Mars you know mum always tells us not to go outside past 9pm," the younger of the two said. The older one rolled her eyes still keeping them on the road.

"You that's not true Sage, parents just say it so their kids don't go out late. Its bullshit," All Sage did was give her a sceptical look Mars corrected herself. She looked into the mirror for longer and explained. Taking her eyes of the road.

"Jokes it's just a myth, nothing is going to get us," Sage's eyes widened in terror. The brunette looked back to the road to see someone standing in the road. With no time to stop at all, the car hit that someone or maybe the other way around. Upon impact the car flipped. Mars's unconsciousness was broken by the screams of Sage. Mars looked back to see a thing pulling Sage's screaming form out of the car. Sage thrashed around but the thing had a solid grip on her yellow sun dress. The thing had a missing eye and arm, blood oozing out of a bullet looking wound. It had human like features but there's no way in hell it was human. The look in its non-gauged out eye was completely blank, zero emotion absolutely nothing showed in that eye. It looked towards Mars but she played dead.

October 2018

After the quick break for the beginning of autumn, school started back up for the children of Falcon. Now there's the cheerleaders, the jocks, the emo's. The classic high school cliques, but there's a group of teens mostly named the standouts, miscreants or just the drama club. Not many people seem to notice them or just ignore their existence all together.

Their name, the tea sippers. Childish they know but it's a cover up for what they really do. These seven 17-year-olds usually sneak out of class to meet at the corner shop, but sometimes a teacher catches on and tracts them down before they can make it out of school. Like this time.

A girl with lighten brown hair, wearing a cropped plaid button up shirt. That was definitely defying all dress codes. Lead her squad of friends through the back ways of the school.

"Ms Catson, what do you think your doing leading your squad of goons out of the school?" Mars looked at the teacher somewhat surprised that the adult had actually caught them. She had to think fast.

"Mr Charles.......I uh RUN!" she yelled alerting her friends to run to a different way out. She gave Mr Charles a cheeky salute and ran off behind her friends. All of them ran right past the reception desk and out the front gates giggling ang smiling about their great escape, and they kept running like that until they made it to the corner shop. It was a run-down old place, but the club seemed to love it.

"That...was..AMAZING! did you see the look on Mr Charles's face when Mars yelled run?" a blonde, that was very out of breath, dramatically waved her hands around while explaining. She walked over to Mars and laid her elbows on the shorter girl's head. Mars quickly pushed the arms off her head.

"Get off me Karma!" she said laughing. The others laughed at Karma's antics.  "Hey Neveah, get some hot chips please," Mars threw her wallet at her friend standing in the line. The rest of the group grabbed a table and waited for Neveah to get the food. They started to play truth or dare. Karma started first.

"Joseph truth or dare?" A tall, skinny boy with glasses thought for a second before coming to his conclusion.

"Dare I'm not a baby," Karma quickly gave him his dare, to lick the table which he thought was really silly. The cycle started. Joseph asked Jay, Jay asked Eli who asked Jade. Neveah brought over the food.

After the food was eaten and more laughing and giggling transpired, Mars started to walk home.

While Mars walked, she had her head down and earphones in, completely ignoring the world around her until she got to her house. She placed her black backpack onto the autumn leaf covered porch, pulling out her house key. Pushing the large door open to find her dad standing there with his arms crossed. Mars took a deep breath and rolled her eyes, she already knew what was coming.

"Mr Charles called said you and your friends all pulled a jail escape on him," He laughed a bit at the end but tried mostly to keep a straight face. Mars pushed past her father and into the kitchen.

"I can't believe he snitched," she said exasperated grabbing a snack from the fridge, settling for an apple. Her dad scoffed.

"That's his job Marcene, you need to stay in school your going to fail," Mars gave him a strange look for using her real name. it was hardly used after she gave herself the nickname Mars. She took another bite out of her apple.

"I'll start staying school when people stop calling me crazy," she replied. Ever since the accident, people started calling her crazy or insane. Telling her that she didn't see that thing and it was something her mind made to cope with her sister's disappearance.

"Speaking of crazy," her dad grabbed a piece of paper of the kitchen island and handed it to Mars. "Seems like someone else saw the thing you saw,"

Mars was in complete shock. Someone else had seen it. The thing that took her sister. She took the newspaper upstairs, walking past Sage's room. She sat down in her swivel desk chair and opened her laptop. Opening the word document about Sage's disappearance and or kidnapping. Searching up the article and did some research trying to find out who this person is. Rereading the article again. Frustrated at finding nothing Mars texted her friends.

Mars: meet me at the corner shop in 5mins.

Karma: k.

Jay: heading there now.

Joseph: sure.

Nevaeh: sure, what's wrong?

Eli: I'm just asking my mum to drive me be there soon.

Jade: on my way.

Mars quickly packed up her laptop and carefully folded the newspaper into her pocket of her black skinny jeans. Deciding that walking in the heat was probably not a good idea, Mars grabbed her keys on the way. Carefully unlocking her car and jumping in, taking in the vehicle once again. She hasn't driven it since the accident. The roar of the engine brings a sad smile to her face. Pulling out of the driveway and heading towards the corner shop.
