Chapter 16: Heartbroken

Violet and I paced everywhere around the castle but there was no sign of Evanthia.

"Maybe Fleur and Luke would have found her in the dungeons. " Violet said.

"You might be right. Let's go and look for them." I said before started sprinting.

Suddenly, my pendant started glowing.
"Cal, why is your pendant glowing?" Violet asked.

"I don't know. I didn't even recite the prophecy. This has never happened!" I answered.

I ignored my pendant as I knew that finding Evanthia was the most important thing for me right now. It didn't matter to me as much as her not being beside me. But as I walked my pendant glowed brighter. I tried walking in the opposite direction to experiment this phenomenon. I saw that my pendant became dimmer. "Violet, I think my pendant is leading me to Evanthia. " I said.

"Really? Okay. Let's follow its directions and hope that it leads us to her." She said.

We followed the path where my pendant glowed the brightest. It led me to a huge room. I heard a few people laughing. I nodded at Violet and quickly knocked on the door.

"Come in!" Someone said.

As I walked in I thought I had entered the wrong room. There were two girls standing. One of them looked a little older than the other. They were as thin as sticks. Both of them wore beautiful and rich gowns. They seemed to be busy in making a girl's hairdo. She was sitting on a chair, her back facing me and her hair plaited in one of the most beautiful braids. I couldn't see her face.

"Would you stop staring and tell us what you want?" One of the princesses said.

"Um...I wanted to inform you that His Majesty is awaiting your presence in the dining room for dinner." I said.

"We'll come. Now off you go." The other one said and pushed me out as they walked passed me.

"Both of you go ahead. I'll just come in five minutes. The girl sitting on the chair said. But I recognized her voice at once.

"Evanthia?" I asked. She got up and turned towards me. I ran to her and hugged her tightly, confident that the girls weren't there to witness this because I had heard their footsteps fade away.

"I thought. I thought I lost you! I'm so happy that you're okay!" I exclaimed but neither did I get any reply nor I got a hug in return. Instead, she just pushed me away. I stared at her for I was so startled.

"Why the hell are you here?" Evanthia asked.

"What do you mean? We all have come to get you out of here. Come quick." I said as I pulled her hand. At once she struck my hand away. I felt like it wasn't like her at all.

"I'm not going anywhere." She said, soundly.

"What's wrong with you Evanthia?" Violet asked as she turned back into her human form.

"There's nothing wrong with me. It's just that I like it in here. That's why I'm not coming with both of you." She replied.

"Are you insane? Do you even hear yourself?" I yelled.

"Isn't that obvious Cal? I'm clearly not deaf." She snapped.

"Listen. We have a plan. We are going to destroy Alaric. For that, we need your help. He's gonna pay for kidnapping you like that." I said.

"Well, he didn't kidnap me okay? I came with him on my own will so get out of here before I tell him and get you killed. " She said.

I couldn't believe what I heard. That was when I was sure that Alaric had done something to her.

"You know violet, I think Alaric has hypnotized her. Once she gets to know the truth, I'm sure she'll get out of it." I said.

"What truth?" Evanthia asked, with her eyebrows knitted.

"The truth that you are my sister. We are real sisters Evanthia! Can you believe it?" I exclaimed.

"What? No way! I can't believe it!" She said.

"I know right! Now let's go!" I said.

"I can't believe that a stupid girl like you is my sister." She said. I froze. "I am ashamed that you are my sister. A girl like you doesn't deserve any sibling!". I just stood there, baffled and oblivious to my surroundings.

"Why are you being so mean Eva ?" Violet asked, interrupting my contemplation. "Do you how many problems we have faced coming here? And here you are standing boldly and insulting your own sister?"

"Well, you have wasted your time coming here cause I'm not moving. " Eva said firmly.

"Why are you doing this? I thought we were best friends." I said sadly.

"We were never best friends. I never considered you as my best friend. Why would I even be friends with a girl like you? I never liked you from the start. From the very beginning! It was all just a stupid drama so that I could use you to get good grades. I needed you to be my friend for my hoggish reasons. You know, Zina and I have been best friends from fifth grade! James doesn't like you too. He likes me! Can you beat that? And since you've got me to this new world, I've been enjoying the most of my time. You didn't realize, right? that I was seeking pleasure. I came here so that I could let you down in front of your own grandma's eyes and that's exactly what I'm doing right now by shaking hands with Alaric. I'm not going to let you win because I know that we will have to go back to that f***ing world after all this is over. I'm already accepted in here. His daughters treat me as their own sister. I'm a god damn princess now and I'm proud of it. So get yourself out now before I do something that I regret later!"

"Please tell me what you said isn't true. Please." I said as my eyes were burning with heat and filled themselves with tears.

"Well, it is. I hate you, Callidora Flinn! I hate you! And that's the actual truth. I suggest that you go back to your own world and let me remain in mine!"
I stood there, speechless. I didn't know what to say. My own sister had betrayed me so badly.

Tears were rolling down my warm cheeks by then.

"Let's get out of here Violet. Evanthia doesn't deserve our friendship anymore." I said, still staring at the eyes that displayed animosity. I averted my eyes to the door and wiped my tears, storming out of the room.

"Callidora wait!" Violet called after me.
I didn't want to listen to anyone that time. I was filled with anger and sadness. I stormed right outside the castle with Violet flying behind me. I rushed past Luke and Fleur too. But as a ran, I heard their conversation.

"Where are you going, Cal? And where's Evanthia?" Fleur asked.

"She's not coming. " Violet replied, instead of me.

"But why? And what about our entire plan?" Luke asked.

"We have to burn the castle!" Fleur added.

"We have to take care of Callidora first." Violet said.

I could tell that she was aware of how hurt I was by her hug that followed her words. That feeling when someone comforts you while you are crying, just makes you cry harder. That was exactly what happened to me as she cradled me.
