Chapter Sixty-One
~*~*~Three Weeks Later~*~*~
Ashley's POV~
Joey rushed me out of the door. He and the guys had a livestream, and unfortunately, he wouldn't leave me home alone. I was currently two weeks late, and I could literally give birth at any given moment.
Arlo wanted to be that baby, who likes to stay until the last possible minute. It was quite annoying.
"Baby, come on. We're late." Joey urged.
I sighed, "I'm going as fast as I can, Joseph. I'm 42 weeks pregnant."
"Right. I'm sorry." He mumbled.
I wrapped my hand around his forearm, and his hand laid on the small of my back. As always, he helped me to the car.
Once I was in the passenger seat, he went over to the other side and climbed. He started the car and left.
"I don't get why I couldn't be left home." I stated.
"Babe, you're 42 weeks pregnant. Labor that's why." He sighed.
I shrugged, "I know what to do. I would call you, Joey."
He shook his head, "What if I couldn't get there fast enough?"
"Like I said, I know what to do." I muttered.
"That doesn't answer the question, Ashley Faith." He sighed, "He could literally come at any moment."
"Which is why we should be at home." I replied, crossing my arms.
"Truth is; we thought you'd already given birth by now." He shrugged.
I rolled my eyes. I sighed, "I told you, it could be up to another two weeks until I've given birth."
"I know. I know. I wasn't thinking. We thought Arlo would've been born by now." He stated.
I groaned as a contraction came through. I closed my eyes and leaned my head against the head rest, letting it wave through.
"He can come at anytime now. Getting tired of contractions." I muttered.
Joey held out his hand for me to take, and I did, lacing our fingers. "Breathe, baby." He soothed.
I gasped out after a few minutes. "Joey, turn around."
"Why?" He asked.
"Go to the hospital. Joseph, I'm in labor." I mumbled.
"What? How do you know? Is it just the contractions?" He questioned.
"Joseph Patrick, go to the hospital. My water just broke." I stated, gritting my teeth.
"O-Okay." He breathed out. At the just cross road, he turned around. "Baby, I'm gonna call the guys, okay?"
I nodded, "Fine."
He let go of my hand and called Alan, putting it on speaker phone.
"Hey, Joe." Alan greeted.
"Hey, man, we're gonna be late. By like a lot." Joey started.
"Why?" Alan asked.
"Put it on speaker for the guys." Joey stated.
"Done." Alan muttered.
"Hey, Joe! What's up?" Chad asked.
Joey looked to me then back out to the road. He sighed, "Um. We're on our way to the hospital. Ashley just went into labor."
"Should we tell him?" Kane asked.
"Tell us what?" I questioned.
"Caleb and Kelsey just left. Apparently, Kelsey just went into labor too." Alan explained.
"What? She's still in her second trimester." I sighed.
"Yeah." Kane mumbled.
"Okay. We'll cancel this, and we can be up there soon." Alan stated.
"Okay. Thanks guys. We'll see you soon." Joey nodded.
"Bye Joe. Bye Ashley, be careful." He replied.
"Of course." I muttered.
~*~*~
Another wave of pain waved through my body as I gave another push. I laid my head back and ignored everyone speaking. It was Joey telling me how good I was doing, the doctors chatting among themselves and focusing on me.
I gave another push before I heard the wails of my baby. The doctors bustled around, and Joey smiled at me. "You did it, baby."
"Yeah." I muttered.
Moments later, our swaddled baby was being placed in my arms. "Look at him," Joey whispered, "He's so small."
I laughed, "Not really."
He smiled, "To me he is. He's adorable."
I looked up at him, "Like you?"
"I'm not adorable." He pouted.
I grinned, "No. You're just extremely good looking. If he's gonna look like you, he's gonna be a heartbreaker."
"The complete opposite of me. I had eyes for one woman since I met her." He mumbled, kissing my cheek.
"Do want to hold him?" I asked.
He nodded, "Yeah."
I smiled and handed him Arlo. Joey carefully took him in his arms. I placed my hand on Joey's thigh as he looked at Arlo with this look. Like a look of excitement and this parental look of love. "You're already a great father, Joey." I smiled.
He didn't say anything, his focus completely on the baby in his arms. I had to say, it gave him a different look. Not only was Joey this sweet, funny, romantic guy, he was now a gentle, loving father.
"Hey," Jeannie smiled, knocking on the open door.
I looked over at the door, the rest of the Stamper family cautiously making their way in. "Hey," I whispered, "Joey's sort of in his own world right now."
She nodded, "That's bound to happen."
We looked to Joey as he began talking. Not to us, but to Arlo. "Hey, little guy. You're finally here, and I could not be happier. You caused your mom to be so annoyed that you didn't want to come sooner, but you're here. That's all that matters, and you're healthy. I can't wait to watch you grow up, and see what kind of man you become."
"It changes everything. Doesn't it?" She asked.
I nodded, "Yeah. It does."
I watched as Herb wiped the few tears off his face, seeing the joy in his youngest son.
"Wow. This is definitely a different side of Joey." Donnie mumbled.
I smiled and looked to Joey, "Hey, Joey, babe, family's here."
He nodded, "I know. I don't want to give him up just yet."
Jeannie laughed, "That's bound to happen too."
"He's my baby. My flesh and blood. My baby." Joey muttered. He sighed and shook his head, "I'm sorry. Who wants him first?"
Jeannie smiled, "Can I?"
Joey nodded, "Yeah. Of course."
She came over and Joey carefully passed Arlo over. She sighed and wiped away a tear, "My first grandbaby. Hi, it's your grandma here. I can't wait to spoil you."
Joey looked over at me, lacing our fingers and kissing my temple, "Get some rest, baby."
I shook my head, "Not right now. I wanna see him a little longer."
He nodded, "Okay. I love you."
I smiled tiredly, "I love you too."
