Chapter Fifty-Six

Ashley's POV~

Once everything stopped, Garica and I stepped out of the trailer. The store was completely missing, chunks of glass and concrete laid every where in thr perimeter. Emily came limping from the rubble, with two people on either side.

"Emily! Oh my," I muttered. I rushed over to help her and the other two victims.

"They're the only two who had a pulse." She mumbled.

"It's okay." I reassured. I put my arm out to help lighten the load on Emily's shoulders, began helping one victim to the ambulance.

Morgan cursed before rushing over also. He took the second victim on one shoulder and helped Emily on the other.

Slowly, but surely, we got the three to ambulance.

"Are one of you coming?" A paramedic asked.

"Can we both? She needs to make sure her baby's alright." Morgan asked. I took a glance at him, and he nodded slightly.

The paramedic sighed, "Yes."

Morgan called out to Hotch while I climbed in, then Morgan got in behind me. Emily, Morgan and I sat on the benches.

One of the paramedics looked at me, "How far along?"

"I'm 35 weeks." I answered. She sighed and slightly shook her head. She made her way over to me through the crowded vehicle. She sat down and placed a stethoscope over my stomach, then waited.

She sighed as she removed it, "I'm not an expert, but your baby's alive."

I nodded as she began tending to the others.

"Jeez, Ashley. You've got to be careful," Morgan muttered.

"I was in the trailer. I'm fine." I huffed.

~*~*~

Joey stood next to me, biting his lip as I went through another ultrasound. I sighed, getting annoyed with all the babying everyone's doing.

The doctor looked at both of us. He sighed, "The baby's perfectly fine, maybe just a little shaken. I need you on medical leave. No more working and no more going out in the field, and watch your activities. Keep it simple and don't overwork yourself, last thing you need is to hurt this baby or yourself."

"Yes sir." I mumbled.

"I'll write a few notes for your supervisors." He mentions.

"Thank you," I muttered.

He turned around and left us. Joey sighed, "Baby, why did you do that? That was so stupid."

"What was stupid? Doing my job? Saving my team and other innocent people?" I asked angrily.

"That's not what I meant. Why did you even work the case?" He shook his head.

"I didn't know until after I said yes. And I wasn't backing out. I'm not putting myself in danger." I stated.

"Why did you stay if you knew there was a bomb? I can't loose you and our baby." He questioned.

"Because I'm not backing out on family. Joey, you have to understand, this my job. You've known that. I warned you when we first got together. That any day could be my last. You knew that!" I exclaimed angrily.

"Yes, I did know that. But dear lord, baby, I don't think that I could live without you. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself. That I couldn't tell that I love you everyday, I wouldn't see your beautiful face everyday, I wouldn't receive your love and support every day. That's my greatest fear, is to not wake up next to you, knowing that you're never coming home. It scares me, I'll admit it, it scares me that I'll have to raise our children every day without you, that they'll never see their amazing mother. It scares me," he replied, looking down. I watched as he covered his face with his hands and begin to cry.

"Stop. Stop that." I demanded, "Joey, babe, stop crying and look at me," I stated more softly.

He looked up at me, tears still fell down his face and his eyes were already red. "I'm sorry," he mumbled.

"Don't be sorry for expressing yourself." I shook my head, "I know I've taken risks, I know we've had this conversation before, but everytime I've taken a risk, I'm thinking of you. It makes me fight harder, knowing that if I survive, I get to come home; to you, my wonderful husband. Okay? It even scares me that I won't be by your side. But if anything, and I mean anything happens and I'm no longer here, I want you happy. I mean it."

"Stop talking like that." He muttered, "You're already making it sound like you're dying. Stop."

"I'm serious, Joseph." I stated, "Okay?"

He nodded, "Fine, but you're not dying."

"I know. I'm saying this for the future. I love you, no matter what. After every argument we have, after every day, or after every time we kiss, or hug, or even just holding hands, I love you more." I smiled, taking his hands.

"I love you too," he whispered, standing up.

He let go of my hands, and cupped my face. He smiled slightly as he leaned in, and gently kissed me.

However, Joey pulled away when the doctor cleared his throat. I sighed as the doctor handed me multiple papers. He smiled, "You're free to go. Just sign out."

"Thanks." I nodded.

He nodded back and left. Joey took my hand and laced our fingers. He sighed, "Come on. Let's get you outta here."

~*~*~

Once I signed out, Joey and I went to visit Emily.

She smiled at me, "Hey."

"Hey, how are you feeling?" I asked.

"Horrible." She joked, "I have a concussion, and I'm stuck on crutches."

"What happened?" I asked.

"Shot in the thigh, and concussion from the explosion." She explained.

"Oh. I see now." I nodded.

"So, how's the baby?" She asked.

"He's fine." I answered.

"What's the papers?" She questioned.

"Notes from the doctor. I'm being placed on leave." I sighed, "No more work, no more field."

"Man, that's gotta suck." She mumbled.

"I was actually going to start my maternity leave next week. Get three weeks before he was born." I shrugged.

"Now you get longer." She grinned.

"Eh. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad." I mumbled.

"That's a good thing." Joey and Emily muttered.

I laughed, "Wow. You two. I'll just be sitting at home, eating and binge watching tv."

"Yay. More shopping." Joey mumbled under his breath.

"Alright, you should go home and rest. You need it." Emily stated.

I sighed, "Fine. I'll see you tomorrow. I gotta drop these off anyway."

"I'll see you then. And I'll be rockin' those crutches." She grinned.

I laughed as I walked towards her. I gave her a hug. "You better be careful."

"Yes, Stamper." She giggled.

I rolled my eyes as I left. Joey laced our fingers as we walked through the ER. You'd think as much as I've been here, it wouldn't bother me, but I didn't care hospitals. If I could avoid it, I'd be happy.

"So, do want to go home, or to the office and hang with the guys?" Joey asked as we approached the car.

I shrugged, "Let's go to the office."

~*~*~

The four guys hugged me as I entered the office. Alan sighed, "We're so glad you're okay."

"I am too, but if you keep squeezing me, I'll give birth right here." I joked.

"Sorry," they muttered, pulling back.

"It's okay." I laughed.

"Is the baby okay?" Caleb asked.

"Arlo's perfectly fine. Neither one of us have injuries, but I'm being forced on leave." I answered.

"Yeah, that reminds. I might start bring you with me, just so you're not alone." Joey stated.

"Okay." I muttered.

"Have you seen the news?" Chad asked.

"Uh. No." I shook my head.

"It's every where. People are already responding on Twitter and Facebook." He stated.

"Awh man. They couple committed suicide by the explosion, along with everyone else but Emily and two others." I sighed, "They're in hospital now."

"All we can do is keep them in our prayers." Alan replied, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"Yeah." I nodded.
