Urgency
A fine layer of perspiration broke out across Mary's forehead. Damn traffic. She honked her horn in frustration but it did no good, the cars continued to move at a maddening crawl.
'It should only take five minutes from here,' she thought.
Turning up the radio she tried to think of other things, but it was useless. She thought she might explode, or worse.
"Why do so many people have to live here," she screamed to herself in the car.
Another twenty-five minutes crawled by and finally Mary inched off the highway and onto a neighborhood street. She put the pedal to the metal and hit 45 on an arterial road praying she wouldn't get pulled over or–god forbid–not make it.
She pulled up outside her house and ran to the front door leaving the car wide open. She managed to slam the front door.
Then she ran to the bathroom and dropped her drawers.
"Ahhh!"
Mary relaxed with sweet relief.
