'For the Confederacy' excerpt
This is a small excerpt of a short story I'm trying to write for an anthology:
A Baudo-class star yacht soars steadily through the Confederacy of Independent Systems' fleet stationed over Serenno, entering the planet's atmosphere, and swiftly descending onto the surface before finally landing softly on a wide cliff, parking next to a Sheathipede-class Type B shuttle and a Punworcca 116-class interstellar sloop.
The small vessel's ramp lowers and out walks a young woman, of pale complexion and amethyst eyes, bright red hair held back with a brown ribbon hair band, her gear consisting of a dark gray coat, a white neck blouse, black pants and boots, as well as practical, yet aesthetically pleasing jewelry.
Her face cold and slightly prideful, and standing up to her hundred and sixty one centimeters of height, she marches steadily through a paved walkway between three rectangular gardens filled with ornamental bushes.
Ahead of the walkway stands a handsome palace, its windows lowly lit with soft green tinges of light. The woman had heard of the place before, but she had never set her eyes upon it. Now that she had, the edification somewhat gave her the impression of having an aura of might and imposement over the city settled on the plain below the cliff.
She halts on her tracks as she reaches the entrance and stands firm and straight. A biometric lector on the wall activates and scans her retina for identification. Once the device finishes its task, it turns off and the palace's doors open slowly.
Resuming her walk, she makes her way through the halls and stairs until she enters the last room on the left of the second level. The room is dark and quiet, the only source of light being three small lamps hanging from the ceiling.
At the center of the room stands a big, circular table, its chairs all occupied except for one on the very right. None of the occupants react to her arrival, save a tall, elder man sitting on the front of the table: Count Dooku.
"Agent Polly Wayne, it's so good to see you. I was starting to believe you were not going to come." Says Dooku, his voice soft and tranquil, yet equally imposing and elegant. "Go ahead and join us."...
