From the outside it's as though it's a typical night, people would be inside, beginning their nightly routines and those who were older were preparing to get peace and quiet from a busy day.
Shops were closing, street lights would begin to turn on and people would begin to clear the streets, except for those working the late shifts.

But this wasn't the case and it hasn't been for years. If you were a citizen of the town or had taken the chance to look more into the history, you would know that this wasn't any ordinary night. In reality it was midday, families were inside their homes preparing lunch, and those who were working were on break now.

Each person has their own routine, each person has their own story.

People have had to adapt to constant darkness in their own ways, in a small town that's on the edge of the forest many people have left, hoping to find an area with more light, away from all the trees. However those people never came back, so the townspeople can only assume they found what they were looking for and settled in a new area.
However for those in the small town that chose to stay, hoping that maybe one day the sun will rise again, they've learnt to adapt in their own ways.

At the end of the main road is a small apartment building, most of the homes inside are vacant, but some still are occupied by families trying to protect their children and make a living in this new world.

The Roth family is one of those many families. Rebecca and Jason Roth are working day by day, trying to help their family succeed and fulfill their needs. Their youngest son, Logan Roth is always wanting to be like the people around him, he's a well behaved kid, which is easy on Rebecca and Jason. However, their eldest daughter Luna is fairly different from her younger brother. Luna is a huge fan of facts, science, anything to do with learning, you name it. Luna was perfectly fine when the whole situation first started, however within the past year, schools have shut down, now Luna only has so many books to re read over and over again. Rebecca has tried anxiously to homeschool her daughter, but Luna wasn't interested. She instead spends her time planning and trying to make a difference, with her little brother often looking over her shoulder.

One evening as Luna finished up her meal, she opened her notebook and stood in her regular spot, she had found a spot by the window at the back of their apartment that offered a small amount of light from the stars, everyone had a spot like this in their homes, this was Luna's. As the brunette anxiously tapped her pen against the paper she looked down at all her scratched out ideas that she had shown to her parents, but they denied it, suggesting that they were too wild and impossible.

The teenager's thoughts were soon interrupted by screaming that was heard from the hallway outside her apartment. This wasn't anything out of the ordinary. People these days clearly weren't happy, and it showed everywhere you went. From screaming to acts of violence, their little town never was the same. The pressure of needing to change routines brought out the worse in people.

This time was different, it wasn't older voices of parents fighting that she was used to, the voices were younger. Luna curiously stood up from her spot and made her way to the front door, pressing her ear against the wood, trying to understand what was going on.

"You're not going anywhere, we know nothing about this place." One of the voices barked and Luna stood up, looking through the peep hole to see a tall ginger was standing right outside her door.

"Exactly, which is why I want to explore and meet new people." Another voice stated, this girl began walking out of view, but Luna was able to see the back of her head, she was a brunette shorter than the ginger.

"Sophia get back here, you don't know what you're doing." The ginger snarled at the brunette.

At this point Luna was able to slide below the peep hole and just listen as she recognized the voices. She waited to hear anything about the name of the ginger and where these girls had come from.

The brunette began to walk away and Luna got ready to go back to her notebook until she heard a key word.

"Let go of me Maxine, you have no control over me." Sophia yelled.

Luna nodded to herself, the ginger was Maxine, the two must be relatives

There was more shouting until Sophia turned to go back to her own apartment, but looking at her older sister one last time before slamming the door.

"Mom and dad would never act like this."

After these words there was silence, both girls had disappeared and the shouting had concluded.

Luna then walked over to the small table where her mother, Rebecca was sitting.

"Hey mom, do you know anything about our new neighbors?" Luna asked Rebecca

Rebecca looked up and shook her head, "I wasn't aware we had new neighbors, but if you want to know more about them, why don't you go introduce yourself."

Luna shook her head, she didn't leave the apartment very often unless it was completely necessary, she often met up with her friends, but that was it. The thought of meeting new people didn't seem pleasing to her, especially after what she just heard in the halls. But she wanted to know more, she wanted to know more about these mysterious girls and their story.

"I'll think about it." Was all Luna said before getting up from the table and going back to her notebook. She was soon joined by Logan who looked over at her notebook.

"What are you doing?" He asked, his eyes scanning the paper.

"Just thinking of ways to add a little bit more light to the world."
