S1 - Ch.9 - A New Hero Rises

Kara stood in front of the statue of her second friend, Lyla Michaels aka Harbinger, who died protecting her from the Furies of Apokolips, hands clasped shyly together in front of her as she looked up at the statue of her fallen friend.

Meanwhile, The Trinity and the Guardian alongside his Ghost, stood by and watched.

"You sure it's a good idea?" Batman explicitly asked the Man of Steel, who stood by.

"It feels right" Superman responded, giving off a hinted smile as Batman looks at him, still with the unemotional look on his face. "What? Can't let it rest, can you?".

"Knock it off you two" Diana gave a smile as she watched Kara approach the statue a little more.

Y/N could feel a sense of guilt in his thoughts, if there had not been a Trace of Light on the island which gave him a new Solar Super, Lyla probably would've been thriving right now.

Now he sees the statue of Lyla Michaels, a formidable warrior who could see past and future events, a gifted ability, to now Kara Zor-El is standing before the statue of her second friend.

"Lyla, I'm going to miss you more than you can even imagine" Kara started off. "You were my second friend here on Earth, and you accepted me without question. Maybe because of you as Harbinger maybe saw something in me worthwhile. Now all I have to do is find that thing" she continued her speech toward the statue of her friend, looking up at it with the feeling of her eyes beginning to liquefy at the brim as the wind hit her face softly as if Lyla responded to her, Kara closed her eyes as a tear escaped her eye. "I'll try not to disappoint you" she lastly finished her speech by wiping her eyes with a smile growing on her face.

The girl looked back at the group behind her as she pushed a strand of her golden hair behind her left ear before she began to walk back, firstly to speak to Diana.

"Diana, I can't thank you enough" Kara shared her gratitude to the Amazonian, going over to hug the one who had helped her maintain her powers better.

Wonder Woman embraced the girl in a sisterly hug. "You will always have a home here" Diana responded with a smile, the hug broke as the two gals separated.

Kara looked over to Batman by approaching him next. "Alura".

Batman looked at the young girl, confused to why she said a name of someone he didn't know. "What?".

"You once told me if I could remember my mother's name, her name was Alura... Alura In-Ze" Kara continued, which she did the impossible... She made Batman smile and nod his head.

"Y/N" Kara turned to the Guardian, facing him next as she approached him.

"Kara" he smiled at her.

"I wanted to say thank you if I hadn't said it already... For helping me adapt and settle in more smoothly. You're my first friend... One I'm happy to call best friend since Lara" Kara issued her thanks to the Guardian, making his cheeks flush a little pink. "You too Glace".

"Aw Kara, y-you don't need to-" suddenly... The Guardian's eyes widen at the feeling of lips touching the left side of his cheek, making his cheeks turn from pink to red within a second as he stood completely still.

"And that's for saving me from Apokolips, I figure we'll meet again sometime soon" Kara let out a small giggle at the look on his face to which he shook his head to snap himself out of the state he was in.

"Uh... Y-Yeah, sure! Which uh - -" he began to dive into the pockets he had on his outfit. "Ugh, where did I-".

"Got it" Glace transmatted a device into the Guardian's hands, making him relievedly sigh, thinking he dropped it.

"Thanks, Glace" he briefly thanked his Ghost. "Here" he handed over a small device to Kara.

"What is this?" Kara asked with confusion but curious to know what he had given her.

"It's a communicator, between you and me. You press that button there and it sends out a signal that my Ghost can detect and she can patch me through to that device or if it starts to vibrate and make noise, it's me calling you through that device, keeps communications between you and me only" he winked. "I'll check in with you tomorrow, imagine it'll be after Clark introduces you to the family that raised him, keep it on you at all times" he added onto his explanation.

Kara smiled at the little gift he had given her, to which she hugged him next, lasting only for almost a minute before it broke up, Clark now approaching his cousin. "Kal, I'm ready now" she gave her word as he nodded with a smile, approaching to the edge together as Kara and Clark began to float off the ground and into the air. "Goodbye Y/N, I'll see you soon" Kara waved and smiled as she began to fly off slowly while the Guardian smiled, giving off a wave at her.

"Thank you" Kal said to the other two

"You still owe me a computer" Batman recalled, approaching beside Diana.

"Might take a while" Clark smiled. "Reporters salary" he put in the last word before flying off with his cousin, already ahead of him into the night sky.

"Always has to have the last word" Batman briefly mentions before grunting in response to Diana lightly elbowing him with a mumbled laugh escaping the Guardian's throat.

Smallville, Kansas USA

Kara looked out the window of the blue small pickup truck her cousin was currently driving, driving to their destination as the girl's eyes fixated on her side of the window, smiling to herself as her hair flaunted in the wind, looking at the passing fields of corn, crops and plants on the other side of the fences that kept them separated from the road.

She was enjoying the peaceful ride, something Krypton never had was these types of vehicles, a radio and all sorts of things that vehicles carried within them through different shapes and sizes.

"Welcome to Smallville" Clark gestured to the front window to Kara, passing by a sign that welcomed drivers into Smallville, a peaceful town which was home to Clark... It's where he grew up on Earth.

Smallville was also the "Creamed Corn Capital of the World".

A big smile grew on Kara as Clark drove past the sign, it was something a lot different to Krypton... And Metropolis, the name sounded peaceful and warm, already feeling welcomed just by a sign alone.

It wasn't long until Clark had drove by a mailbox sign that contained the name "Kent" on the side, eventually taking a right turn upon the next road that would lead up to the very home he would always come to know as his home away from Metropolis.

He would've flied over to this home with Kara but he had insisted he'd drive her there, which Kara thought was a good idea, since she wanted to get used to these things on Earth if she'd ever take up a secret identity like his if she wanted to become a hero like him in time.

They came to a stop upon Clark pulling over the vehicle. Kara stepped out with an amazed look on her face. 'This really is different from Krypton and Metropolis' she thought in her head. Smiling at the house her cousin grew up in. "So this is where you grew up".

"It's not so bad" Clark came out, carrying a heavy bag in his left hand as he thought Kara intended something else about the home he grew up in.

"No! I mean - - It's so... Different" she connected her hands together as Clark stretched his comforting arm out to place his hand on Kara's right shoulder, walking her toward the fenced gate. "Compared to Krypton... Even Metropolis" she looked at him before she heard little chirps and a clucking noise, seeing an adult chicken run out with it's baby chicks running behind her as Kara looked down. "Aww" she gushed out, watching the little animals run under her legs. "I think I'm going to like it here" she told her cousin straight and center, already thinking of interacting with those animals like she just saw there.

"It does get a little quiet" Clark stated to his cousin, thinking she's not into quietness.

"Kal, I've been chased, shot at, kidnapped, beaten up, had my mind controlled - -" Kara began listing off the negative things with gestures to express herself before holding out the backside of her hand to Clark. "And I broke a nail... I'm ready for a little quiet" Kara smiled, alongside her cousin smiling back at her.

"Well, if I know my mother, she'll have some of her famous apple pie waiting" Clark responded with the two walking up the stairs toward the door. "The folks will be out right no-" suddenly a fist broke through the front door, hitting Clark which had sent him backwards into a tractor on the farm, beside the barn, exploding due to the impact.

Kara looked in horror as the figure broke through the door with ease... In the form...

Of Darkseid.

The New God quickly bitch slapped Kara toward his left, sending her through three roof supporters and into the vehicle Clark had previously drove in with Kara in shotgun/the passenger seat, tipping the vehicle over.

"I GAVE MY WORD I WOULDN'T GO FOR THE GIRL!" Darkseid shouted toward the Man of Steel who got up with anger on his face. "YOUR death however, is LONG overdue, Superman".

Five minutes later

The Guardian was currently in his ship, engines on low power as his ship flew in circles around Metropolis, high above so he wouldn't be detected. He was lucky enough to have a spare ship to go around, though it was just a normal spare Javelin ship which was handed to him by the League.

By using spare Transmat technology he hoarded within his inventory, he quickly made a Jumpship out of the this Javelin, it was the closest he'd get to using his Jumpship again, due to being stuck on this current Earth.

"She's still not picking up" Y/N began to slightly panic, thinking something bad has happened.

"Don't worry too much about her, Y/N" Glace responded as she overlooked the ship's systems, monitoring for potential danger. "I'm sure she's still getting herself reacquainted with Clark's adopted parents" she issued her thoughts over his own.

"But they she would've called back by now, she done it early this morning before heading off" Y/N replied with worry in his voice. "Get me into contact with Clark, maybe he knows something".

"Y/N... You're being paranoid, and you're NEVER paranoid" she began to worry, not for the Kryptonian cousins, but for her Guardian.

"Glace, just do it... Please".

"Alright" Glace wished she could roll her eye, instead, she does it by moving herself while stationary. "Alright, here you go" she spoke in a monotone voice.

"Clark, it's Y/N, is everything alright? Just wondering how Kara's doing since she ain't picking up" he spoke into the comms and waited.

But he soon realized he was getting nothing back... Only static.

"Clark?" he spoke again as he looked at Glace in horror, knowing something wasn't right.

"Eh, already on it!" Glace manually adjusted more power into the ship's thrusters and engines as the Guardian took the joystick, immediately the ship began to make a break for Smallville.

His heart was pounding in his chest, he swore if it was all just a misunderstanding, maybe he should've considered some mental help from Black Canary the other week, considering his mental health was on the line of many years of being a Guardian, and hasn't aged a day... Or so he was thinking now in his 16th year of being a Guardian, his body would probably be starting to grow normally but slower due to the Light.

It only took two and a half minutes to get to Smallville, his ship wasn't as fast as a Kryptonian can fly, Faster Than A Speeding Bullet.

"Oh Traveler" Glace made an audible gasp, witnessing the smoke in the distance in front of the ship.

"They've been attacked" Y/N's heart sank upon the revelation, what seemed to be more than ten craters all around the farm as their ship came into close contact with the farm.

Y/N soon unmaterialized out of the ship before materializing onto the ground as the ship flew off, Glace materialized into his pocket dimension backpack to keep herself safe from any potential threats as the wind began to get intense, a little tornado happening not far from the barn.

"I don't think strong winds caused this much destruction" Glace theorized.

"No... It definitely didn't" he responded, his eyes caught on the tornado which seemed to hold two beings inside. Before he could identify who they were, he stepped past a Mother Box which he kneeled down to pick up before a little flame of irritation compelled within him. "Darkseid..." he began to growl, now knowing who was behind all this destruction, as he then carefully walked through the chaos that had happened...

Before finding a sight that made his stomach drop, with his eyes widening at the sight of what the crater held within.

"Kara!!" he dropped down and made his way over to her, taking her into his arms as he knelt down. Her nose was bleeding, cuts over her body with her clothes ripped up, showing off her midriff, shoulders and legs, and her hair was amess. "Is she?".

Glace ran a scan across the girl's body as the wind picked up more intensely, the sounds of lasers roaring out next as a groan escaped the girl's throat. "She's alive! Judging from her pained groans" the Ghost exclaimed while Kara's eyes began to reopen, seeing a face she never thought she'd see sooner than later looking down at her.

"Y/N?" her voice stuttered with slight pain, a groan escaped while she sat up, his arms supporting her behind her back.

"You look like hammered shit" he then exclaimed to her, a pained laugh escaped from her afterwards.

"Y-Yeah. *pained groan* Especially after I was kicking Darkseid's ass for a bit and used his Omega Beams against him" she lightly smirked, boasting off a little.

"Now it's time to be cocky, you got me worried sick" he proclaimed, looking over at where Superman and Darkseid were going toe-to-toe within the tornado the Man of Steel created around himself and his foe.

"Hey, is that his Mother Box?" Kara asked. "Hand it over, I got an idea, I'll need your help with what I have in mind".

"What?! What're you..." he stopped upon seeing a mischievous smirk on her face, knowing she had something planned.

"In my short time on Apokolips, Darkseid may have taught me some things about the Mother Box... Which he's going to regret if this follows through" Kara explained. "You with me, Guardian?".

"Let's do it... Though I might evidentially kill him for this" he stood up and pulled Kara to her feet, handing over the Mother Box as he jumped out the crater.

Darkseid grabbed a hold of Superman around his neck with the intense tornado like wind surrounding them, began to simmer down as he then smirked with his Omega Beams shooting out, blasting Clark on the left side of his face as he painfully groaned out, struggling to scream out in pain.

"This will be the end of you, Kal-El. You will be dust when I'm through with you!" his ego for Superman's death was something he lived by, and he'd see through it himself, no matter the consequences.

"DARKSEID!!" the New God heard his name called out by an all too familiar voice before a burning knife was thrown into his eye, exploding which promptly forced him to drop Superman out of his grasp, a bright flash of orange light burst out with the shot of a gun going off, before the New God himself felt a newer pain pass through his own body and flesh, which only meant one thing...

This was Paracausal magic, magic not from this world as he laid eyes upon the Guardian, responsible for defeating his armies, freeing Kara from his control and even threatening to blow up his planet along with the rest.

Solar Light busted through his own armor, before another shot followed through, putting a hole through his flesh which more shots came out at rapid paste, falling to the ground at the same time as the shots connected into the New God.

Superman saw this and took the liberty to attack but the Guardian insisted he'd handle this, as much as Kal wanted to disobey, he looked over to Kara who was configuring the Mother Box, which he instantly flew back over to check on her, knowing Y/N had it under control.

Y/N was no Shin Malphur, but he was a master at the Golden Gun, much like other Hunters were, Shin was the original and he only met Shin once through hunting down a rogue Guardian who turned to the Darkness.

"Remember what I promised... I wouldn't be so merciful if we ever crossed paths, AGAIN!" Y/N blasted more shots into the New God, making him fall to one knee before a Boom Tube opened, curtesy of Kara Zor-El.

"Im-Impossible!" Darkseid spoke with flabbergast, overwhelmed by this new found pain, no one has ever punctured a hole into Darkseid in a very long time, something he was not expecting.

"Oh, but it is possible" the Guardian fired back at him, using the power of the Celestial Nighthawk into his Golden Gun for one powerful shot to put in the final blow...

"Jackpot"

The Lightbearer pulled the trigger, a powerful shot ringed out as his Golden Gun burned out, the shot hit Darkseid with extreme force, piercing through his body once again as it sent him flying back into the Boom Tube before closing up.

Y/N stared out to where Darkseid used to be... Now seemingly floating far outside the Milky Way galaxy, or the Guardian knew this galaxy as Sol.

"Guardian... You... You did it... I think you just killed off a New God!" Glace boasted her chosen Guardian. "Want me to score off his name off the list?".

"No Glace, we did it... And I haven't even added him to the list anyway... Yet at least" Y/N responded as he exhaled a short sigh before looking back at the road ahead, seeing the two cousins sitting on the dusty road, talking to each other before they looked back at Y/N who smiled at them, where they then smiled back.

Glace materialized herself into the physical world as she floated beside her Guardian while he walked up to the pair of cousins from Krypton, hearing Kara saying something to Clark.

"I've made a decision, Kal... I know what I want to do" she audibly spoke out to him to which he smiled, knowing what she was referring to.

"What's this decision you're making?" Kara turned to look at Y/N who asked a question.

"Her decision to use her powers for good, which is what I'm assuming is correct, right?" Kal turned to Kara who then nodded and smiled.

"Wait, seriously?!" Y/N's eyes widened, his eyes drawn toward Kara next as she looked back at him.

"You taught me mostly everything when it came to being a hero, which in time I hope to learn through experiencing it myself, to do the same Truth and Justice, Kal does in this world. You told me all about Devotion, Bravery and Sacrifice" Kara kind-heartedly responded, making the Guardian smile.

The moment of wholesomeness ended as soon as a vehicle began to approach, Kal gave out a sudden "Uh-Oh" as knowing the vehicle belonged to his parents who the driver, Jonathan Kent, stopped the vehicle upon seeing three people in the middle of the road, Clark and two others their son hasn't introduced them to as the couple walked in front of their parked vehicle.

The couple looked around as a gasp escaped the elder woman's lips as she was completely shocked at the devastation the farm was in. "My God, what happened here while we were gone?!".

"Clark..." Jonathan looked to his son, he wasn't angry or disappointed, he had a feeling something bad had happened while they were gone.

"Ma, Pa" Clark greeted. "This is Kara, my cousin... Your niece" he introduced them as Kara walked forward.

"Mr. Kent, Mrs. Kent, it's so nice to finally meet you!" Kara exclaimed happily, finally meeting her cousin's foster parents, she ran up to them and hugged both of them as Superman walked up not long after. "I've heard so much about you both!".

Y/N and his Ghost would soon follow suit before the house near them finally gave in and broke down completely... A sound of *CRASH!!!* ringing out with a gust of wind and dust blowing in their faces. "That's... Not good" Glace whispered.

"The... House..." Jonathan's face scrunched up at the now destroyed house before looking back at his son and niece, not noticing the other person and their... Floating companion with them.

"Don't worry, I can build you a new one" Superman proclaimed, putting a hand on Kara's shoulder.

"I can help!" Kara quickly volunteered. "I'm great with a hammer, I can... Pound... I'm a good pounder" Kara claimed while gesturing as chickens and baby chicks ran amuck around the farm.

"Are you?" Y/N asked Kara who looked at him next.

"Of course I am!" she proclaimed, sticking out a tongue at him before giggling away.

"And... Who's the boy here?" Martha turned her attention to the Guardian who looked a little shocked at the elderly woman's declaration about him.

"Boy?"

"Oh, this is Y/N and his companion, partner, Ghost... Glace" Clark introduced them, shedding light onto the "boy" and his companion.

"Eh... It's uh... Good to meet you both Mrs. And Mr. Kent... I guess I can lend a hand too, I suppose since I'm here"...

* *

It was a rare occurrence... But Superman had called the entire Superhero Community, consisting of teams like the Teen Titans, the Outsiders, the J.S.A  and the J.L.A, for he wanted to introduce them all to his cousin finally, prior to Kara's decision to wear the cape for the first time.

Inspired by him alone, and by someone else's words about what it meant to be a hero.

Devotion...

Bravery...

And Sacrifice...

Though that motto was made for a particular group of protectors...

It also worked well... With the heroes of this day and age.

The Superhero Community was gathered at Paradise Island, curtesy of Wonder Woman, they had no idea why they were summoned to the island but their questions would soon be answered by Superman himself, the one who invited them all to the island on behalf of Diana Prince.

"I know how busy you all are... But it seems like the only times we can all get together are for funerals... But I'm happy to say that today isn't going to be like that" Superman spoke out to everyone, informing them of nothing bad that has happened. "We're all alike for each of us, in our own way, had to struggle to become who we are, today. So... Allow me to introduce to you all..." the community looked up to the sky and saw a girl floating down, wearing the same House of El symbol but on a blue crop top showing her midriff, a blue skirt, a yellow outlined cape with the full yellow symbol on the back and red boots with the yellow V-line on the top. "My cousin... Kara Zor-El... Who the world will come to know as - -"

-"Supergirl" Kara Zor-El... Supergirl, floated down toward the ground, gracefully touching the floor with the air coming out from under her feet as soon as she touched the ground.

Her hands were out in front of her, grasped together as she looked shy amongst the heroes in front of her, seeing them all smiling and looking happy to see another new hero at best.

"To be honest, I'm not sure I've really earned the right to use that name... Or to wear this uniform. But I'm hoping with all your help, I'll grow into it - - Having fun with heroes my own age - - Superboy and the Teen Titans. Being challenged by Nightwing and the Outsiders. I hope to meet the JSA, Power Girl and I have to talk... And, my cousin tells me I'll find a kindred spirit in Stargirl. I want to reach for the JLA - -" Supergirl spoke out to everyone, giving off a somewhat speech in other words toward the various teams in front of her.

-Or perhaps join a certain Fireteam a good friend is thinking of setting up" she lastly added, to everyone's confusion, never having heard of a group called Fireteam before.

https://youtu.be/Y5vyPGm1g20

"To all of your confusion, I know this is about you all meeting my cousin, but as you know... Kara isn't the only hero I'm introducing to you all today" Superman spoke as a hooded figure began to walk on in, making himself known. "This isn't just any hero that we know, much like Power Girl, this particular hero who I'm introducing alongside Supergirl, isn't from this Earth and currently the League is doing their best to help him get back to his Earth, but allow me to introduce to you, who calls himself a Guardian, a Lightbearer who wields Paracausal magic called the Light thanks to his Ghost, a companion and partner who brought him back from death, but lost all his memories of his former self before rediscovering his own origins later as a Guardian" the Guardian pulled down his hood, showing his face before his Ghost materialized beside him. "Zain, but he calls himself by his original name, Y/N and his Ghost, Glace".

"I'm not one for speeches or anything... But I am honored to be amongst all of you, from all the stories that I've heard, from all the research my Ghost has found" he gestured to his Ghost who broke her shell apart before reattaching her shell back together. "Each of you act like a Guardian. Devoted... Brave... And willing to Sacrifice their lives for the greater good, day in and day out... We Guardians know that better than ourselves" he didn't expect himself to give out a speech but he was and didn't hold back. "A friend... A 'Stranger' once told me... That they have seen terrible things born out from the Darkness, and that every moment brings them closer. I hope what she said isn't true, but if it is? I expect to see all of you there, standing by my side to fight those forces back, whether as friends... Or allies" he continued his speech, which did not fall on deaf ears. "The Light has touched this Earth and I intend to find out why and how, but with all of you? I hope we can work together, to solve this. Because this world doesn't just need heroes... It needs... Guardians, and with that? Who better are we than to be... Heroes... And who knows? Maybe heroes like the newly acquainted Supergirl, the first friend I've made, which I'd be glad for her to be apart of my new Fireteam in honor of my old one. anyone can join, and it could be you" he finalized his speech at the end before an uproar of an applause from the community happened out of fruition.

"Seems you're becoming a favorite already" Glace whispered.

"Seems like it" he smirked as Kara stood beside him and elbowed him gently, causing them both to chuckle at each other.

"Thank you, everyone!" Kara shouted out, smiling gleefully while waving. "Wanna go for a fly?" she suggested.

"A fly? Like a race? You'd definitely beat me against my substitute ship" he crossed his arms.

"I promise I'll go easy, race you to the Metropolis" she smirked.

"You're on... Supergirl" he smirked back. "Glace call the ship!"
