S1 - Ch.20 - Suppressed Feelings

Supergirl didn't know why, or what she was doing... But she couldn't keep her eyes off of Y/N who was standing up in front of the heroes from each team, giving them intel on the current location of the Shard of Light, spotted near the Isle of Lewis, the Calanais Standing Stones in Scotland.

Hive and Taken had burrowed themselves around the area, fortifying the surrounding area with defenses and blights, labeling the area "too dangerous for stay around" for those willing to visit one of the Seven Wonders of Earth.

Kara knew what she was feeling toward Y/N, the feeling of...

Warmth...

Company...

Affection...

Yet? She's never had this feeling before? She questioned 'why now?'

What didn't help was that Cassie Sandsmark knew that Kara was feeling something toward the Guardian, she would tease her then and there still, even giving her a form of advice on the matter too when Y/N wasn't around.

The Kryptonian girl's eyes could not lay off of Y/N, she felt vulnerable around him, felt more relaxed and safe... Although she couldn't get hurt from bullets, explosives, cars, trains, buses, etc.

She was faster than a speeding bullet, way faster than her cousin, more powerful than a locomotive just like her cousin... And could defy gravity and take flight at supersonic speeds and even at lightspeeds.

Yet? She felt... Vulnerable... Around a singular guy with space magic and a robotic-alien small partner that could revive him and has a personality... Something definitely wasn't in place and she wasn't sure why.

It was at this point that she couldn't exactly listen in about what Y/N was explaining, the pupils of her eyes could turn into hearts just by looking at him.

Her smile grew just thinking about him, her eyes still on him... Her feelings about him beginning to brew up as she had kept them suppressed at all times, she didn't want to lose him to something like this.

"Hey" Kara was suddenly patted on the back by Cassie, standing beside her. "You good? I've noticed you've been staring at Y/N and not the screen" The blonde Demi-Goddess pointed out, as Kara's eyes widened at the realization.

"Oh! Right, sorry" she apologized, now out of her little daydream about the Guardian...

To which Cassie then smirked about, Supergirl didn't even notice what Cassie said before pointing out the screen Y/N had his Ghost put out with a hologram, pin-pointing the surrounding area of their objective.

"Hmm, you seem to be staring at him a lot when he ain't looking" she began as the Girl of Steel heard her and her cheeks notably began to flash a little tint of red. "Was I right this whole time about you... Having a crush on him?".

"I-I... N-No, of course I... Don't" she lied through her teeth, continuing the same process again... And again for the last few days.

Cassie thought Kara was forgetting about the times where Kara herself would talk about Y/N mostly, making the Titans think that she has a liking for him... It was a surprise she hasn't tried asking him out yet.

If Guardians know what dating is, really...

"Oh c'mon... You do" she cocked a teasing eyebrow up at her best friend. "I know you do, you've been talking about him a lot lately" she continued, Kara's cheeks flushed a bright red as she felt the cracks beginning to show.

Deep down, she wanted to blurt it out so badly, she hadn't felt the feeling of this... Unexplained feeling...

She had already went to her cousin about it... And as much as he was surprised that Kara felt this feeling toward Y/N... He gave her advice about it.

"It's normal to feel like you're in love with one other person, it's how me and Lois felt around each other, it does take time to grow and yes... I was nervous, me? Nervous? It happened when I was around Lois and I... Like to think she did too. If you like Y/N this much like you've explained, don't rush into it, relationships like these take time to build up like I said, up until the magical moment is when the relationship is locked into place with a special key, I did have the feeling you liked him this much, considering you wanted him to live with you in the shared apartment"

Kara knew Kal was no detective like Batman, but he knew Kara liked Y/N from just the interactions they had whenever Kara told him or when he was around with the two of them on the job as Superman.

"Admit it, c'mon" she whispered.

"Okay..." Kara finally spoke. "Maybe I do! I have for a while now! So please stop asking me!! Omigod" she then continued, speaking loudly so everyone could hear what she said as silence followed. "Oh Rao...".

Kara puckered her lips in embarrassment as she felt that the entire room was looking at her with confusion, embarrassing herself further with the sudden outburst.

Cassie only had a look of enjoyment on her face, knowing Kara had finally admitted to it, despite the many people looking at the both of them, she knew it was worth it.

"Um... Is everything okay there?" Y/N asked out to the girls, Kara's eyes fell upon him once again and instantly sputtered out nonsense to respond, blushing herself again.

"Yeah! She's good! I am too" Wonder Girl answered, saving Supergirl's bacon as Y/N smiled.

"Well... Kinda need an answer from Supergirl, too" he responded, showing concern for an embarrassed Supergirl.

"I-I'm good... C-Carry on" she answered, hiding away her blush of embarrassment as Y/N shrugged, continuing what he was talking about. "I. Hate. You" she cursed to Cassie who smirked.

"Love you too" she quietly giggled. "So I was right, huh? Sweet".

"Girl, you pressured me. And pressure isn't my strong-suit!" she whispered a little loudly to a chuckling Wonder Girl.

"And I still can't believe you haven't told him yet, like... At all" she brushed off Kara's words.

Kara's annoyance died down with Cassie's words. "Yeah... I... I told Kal about it... *Sigh* I'm not sure how I feel about it all" she looked down at the ground.

"What'd you mean?".

"Like... Where it all came from... Maybe... Maybe I started feeling it when I first met him? Or... I-I don't know what to do or how to-!"

"Tell him?" Cassie answered for Kara as she looked back at her.

"Y-Yeah... What if he rejects me?" she then thought of the worst. "What if... I lose him? To telling him about how I feel around him?!".

"Hey, don't get yourself in a panic" Cassie attempted to calm her Kryptonian friend down. "From what I've seen about him? He doesn't seem to be the type to do anything like that, at all".

"And how do you know that?" Supergirl questioned.

"Well... Before you joined the Titans, Y/N would talk about you which got us intrigued to potentially ask to have you join. Of course I was a little sceptic at the time but... I had to know about his relationship with you, if you two were friends or... More than friends. He said something the lines of 'More than you think' or something like that" Cassie explained herself further, the last statement surprising Kara the most.

"Wait... Do you think...?" she arched her brows.

"Maybe... It's a long shot but... Kara, I think maybe... Maybe he likes you too" Wonder Girl dropped the shell. "I mean, he put his arm over you multiple times before when you both sat next to each other and to be honest? He's snuck in glances when you weren't looking, especially last week" she continued. "I think he might have feelings for you too, but I couldn't exactly ask Diana if I could borrow her Lasso of Truth to test it".

"Wait... For real? He's been sneaking glances at me without me knowing" she questioned, hope lightening up in her spirits.

"Yeah, trust me? I've caught him doing it, even when he was sitting in the background, talking to his little Ghost buddy" Cassie dropped the ball, exposing him in a way for Kara's benefit. "You need to tell him how you feel, or maybe... That other boy that recently joined, might be someone you like, he seems charming enough".

"Not my type" she rolled her eyes. "I-I don't know Cassie, I don't know how to tell him" she showed some frustration by clenching her fists, before sighing next as Cassie looked remorseful for her bestie.

"Hmm" she hummed. "What keeps you calm or at least what activity calms you down?".

"Flying" Supergirl answered.

"Then tell him when you're flying him back!".

"No use, he uses that teleportation thingy to get back to the apartment we both share" she doubled down on that sadly.

"Then offer him a flight back to your shared apartment then! After we're done with this of course" Cassie reminded her. Making Kara think it would be a great idea, but the sudden love sick feeling came back up as the duo noticed the heroes mobilizing around them as Y/N walked up with Glace in tow.

"So..." he began. "Is everything okay? You two seemed to be not listening to the briefing according to Glace" he questioned the two with his arms crossed.

"And what was that back there?" Glace then asked on top of her Guardian's question.

"Uh... Y-Yeah... We're... We're okay" Kara answered, looking down at the floor to hide her blushing face.

"We're sorry for talking throughout the briefing, got distracted and all. Girl talk" Cassie responded next as Y/N hummed.

"Yeah, well... It's alright. You two and the Titans are with me anyway, I'll explain what our objective is when we've regrouped with them" Y/N turned to see Kara still looking at the floor. "You alright, Kar?".

"Wh-What? Y-Yeah!  I'm-I'm just peachy" she smiled awkwardly, looking back at him as he smiled.

* *

'Rao darn it, Kara! You're doing it again!' the in-battle Girl of Steel said to herself within her thoughts, knocking down a Hive Acolyte with one punch as it's worm wiggled on the ground while she stared at Y/N.

He was pulling off moves that would seem distracting to others, but it wasn't... Only to Supergirl at the moment.

Every time she caught herself, she would snap out of it and continue fighting the Hive and Taken shooting at her or rushing her with the means to attack, point blank.

The Guardian jumped over some Thrall, doing a twirl in mid-air before landing and hammer-fired his Ace of Spades toward the Thrall that rushed him, then turning round to shoot a Hive Knight that Red Robin was struggling to fight. "You can thank me later!" he called out to him.

Kara couldn't keep her eyes off of him still, which Y/N seemed to notice as he turned round after Glace told him so, a smile grew on his face as he nodded his head at her, unbeknownst to why Kara was looking at him, seemingly falling head over heels for him which was a distraction for her alone.

His eyes then darted toward an incoming Thrall, attempting to attack her. "Look out!" he called out to her as she came to her senses, fortunately? Y/N shot the Thrall dead with one shot to the head, evaporating it into Chitin dust.

Kara breathed in and out, cursing at herself quietly before noticing a Taken Captain with duel swords rushing him from the side, her instincts to save him kicked in as she speeded over to him and clocked the Taken Fallen Captain that rushed him "You better look out too" she smiled without realizing it.

"Speaking of which" he then said as he wrapped an arm around Supergirl and unknowingly pulled off a dance move, spinning her around and caught her before shooting the aggressor that shot at them.

Another aggressor shot at them and Kara fired red beams out of her eyes to take down the Hive Acolyte that attacked them, just before she locked eyes with Y/N like that one scene from Star Wars with Han Solo and Leia Organa. The Guardian and the Girl of Steel, an odd pair that wouldn't work on paper but in reality? It sure did.

Citizens speculated these two were very close, Kara could recount on many of the questions stating if she was in fact, dating or in romance with the Guardian, to which she would deny but her blush said other words... Like she was doing right now. With her arm over his shoulder and his around her waist.

"Heh, that was cool" he spoke for her, giving her a smile in the midst of battle. "Should do that more often".

"Y-Yeah, yeah... I... I suppose so" she couldn't contain her blush but smiled through it as Y/N let go of her and so did she, both giving each other smiles before he headed off.

Supergirl levitated and shot beams of intense heat out of her eyes onto the Hive Knights and Acolytes that hit behind cover, evaporating the rocks they took cover with as the battle was almost a complete warzone.

Hive Tomb Ships kept arriving on in, with her and those that could fly did their best to ground them before they could drop in more Hive reinforcements.

"They're still coming! How many do they have?!!" Miss Martian called out. Hive and Taken spawned through portals and out of thin air within ritual looking runes that illuminated off the ground.

"When Y/N said this world needed Guardians like him? He wasn't wrong!" Wonder Girl used her lasso on one of the Tomb Ships to trap it. "Supergirl, now!".

The Girl of Steel flew straight through the ship like a high velocity missile, taking it down as she dusted off any chitin dust left on her attire. "We'll keep taking them down if we have to, for this Seventh Wonder of Earth!" she cried out, inspiring her own version of Hope to her allies.

The girl flew back down onto the Earth, to assist the other grounded heroes as a bright flash of orange light illuminated the surrounding area, the aura alone empowered Supergirl who was nearby and felt the radiant effects.

"That's new" she said to herself, feeling herself empowered with Solar energy unlike any other before as she thought of a way to end this line of the battle right now. "Everyone, stand back!" she called out.

"Why?".

"Oh this is gonna be good" Y/N knew why, a signature move that Kal taught her that was rarely used. "You heard the woman! Get behind her!" he shouted out to the heroes around him.

Some confused to why to fall behind the Girl of Steel, but Y/N and a few others knew what this Girl of Tomorrow was going to pull off. "Y'all are gonna love this".

The Hive and Taken began to close in on them like the mindless cannon fodder they are, roars of Hive Ogres and screeches of Thralls would be overwhelming if Kara hadn't pulled off the move she did next.

With a mighty force, empowered by the Radiant Slam the Guardian used to empower his weaponry with Solar light, seemingly empowering the likes of Supergirl due to her intake of Solar energy, she clapped her hands together once, doing her Thunderclap move, but thanks to the empowerment of the Radiant Slam empowering her?

The way was cleared... The Hive and Taken that once surrounded them? Were nothing but dust, essence and bones, with the side of Worm larvae from what used to be the Hive.

The only sounds that could be heard was distant battles and the winds of Scotland lifting up people's capes and skirts/skorts... That was it.

"*Whistle* Now that... Was amazing" Y/N finally broke the silence. "Remind me to empower you with my Radiant Slam next time" he examined Supergirl's glowing aura of Solar energy coercing through her.

"How'd you know it would work like that?" Red Robin asked.

"I didn't... Did not think my Radiant Slam would empower her like that, that seems to be new" he scratched his chin with his free hand. "Curious".

"Solar Light must work the same as the Solar energy I take within my body that gives me my powers" Supergirl then spoke up. "Makes sense to why you got Red Solar Light some months ago when... Nevermind" she brushed off whatever she had in mind to say, wanting to forget about her... Darker self made from Black Kryptonite.

"Well, the way's clear..." Y/N breathed out. "Thanks Supergirl, that's why you're my favorite person" he gave her a heartwarming smile, making his way forward as the girl could only blush and scream in her head at his response.

"Should've told him there" Wonder Girl whispered as she went along before the others did so, leaving Kara with her thoughts before snapping out of them.

"Hey! Wait up!".

The Shard is now secure, with surprisingly, but suspiciously no resistance at all, the defense was mainly the outside area of the fort the Hive built in short to no little time, which raised the question...

"Why wasn't there much resistance within the fort?"

A question for another time Y/N and Glace supposed... Unaware of them being tested by someone who pulled the strings of this.

The Taken Queen herself pulling it off, in other words? She was called 'The Witch Queen of Deceit, Lies, Trickery and Cunning' testing the hero's will, limit and spirit to see if they could withstand the might of the Hive and Taken combined... Seemingly using the Shard as bait.

Y/N had suspicions about it all, why the defense outside? But not much in the inside?

However... The Shard of Light was now within the Justice League's hands, for safe keeping of course until something can be done or if it begins to react in a way that they need the Guardian for.

The aftermath of the battle left heroes mostly injured but still alive fortunately, it was a great victory for the heroes...

Y/N stood alone, with his Ghost... Striking conversation as Supergirl watched on nearby, thinking to herself if she should just ask him now or tell him how she felt. She couldn't stop looking at him all day... Even in the last few days, she couldn't.

The Suppressed Feelings overwhelmed her in a way, and they have for a while, it wasn't bad then... But now it's beginning to eat her up from the inside.

"Now's your chance" Cassie spoke from behind Kara, walking up beside her.

"I... I don't know Cassie..." She refused, backtracking a little. "What if he rejects?".

"He won't! I know he won't! You'll be great together, I'm sure of it!" Cassie reassured Kara as she looked at him nervously, overhearing his little frustration over the League taking the shard for study.

She thought about it for just a moment, this was her chance... 'Just ask him, Kara. Ask him to give him a flight home, it'll be just you and him in the sky'

"I... Okay..." she finally thought about it after arguing with herself within her own mind. "*Inhale... Exhale* Okay... Here goes nothing".

Her cape billowed on behind as she began walking toward the Guardian who seemed to be still arguing with one of the Leaguers about the Shard of Light.

"It can't be used for -!" he was interrupted as he shook his head. "I understand... But this wasn't your call, it was mine to make. You said-".

Kara approached the Guardian, his back turned to her before he felt her presence and turned round to see her face, giving her acknowledgement. "Right... Just... Just let me know when you've found something" he shut off the comms before sighing. "Too dangerous my ass, they should be thanking me for helping".

"They still don't trust you, huh?" Supergirl asked with a concerned tone, but still feeling nervous as the Guardian let out a frustrated sigh.

"Yep... All because of that damn incident, I thought your cousin would've taught some sense into them but... Guess he hasn't" he shrugged before looking back at Kara. "So... What's got you nervous?" he noticed Kara's body language, her fiddling with her cape and hair.

"Oh uh... N-Nothing, I uh... Just wanted to ask if I could fly us back home" she responded, much to the Guardian's pleasure to his question being answered.

"By you?" he cocked an eyebrow up before chuckling. "Always" he smiled, making Supergirl smile also, sweeping him off of his feet, before blasting off into the air.

She could hear Wonder Girl's words of encouragement from the distance as she took off into the air, beginning to fly herself forward with Y/N in his arms.

"So... That move we did back there? Thought of a few names we could call it" Y/N stroke conversation.

"R-Really?" she asked. "Omigod, Y/N" she laughed softly.

"No, seriously. I did! I can tell you the names right now if you wanna hear em?" he offered to which Kara giggled at lightly.

"I would love to... After I... Have to tell you something" she responded with a serious look on her face, trying not to sound nervous as much.

"Oh?" he looked with an intrigued look. "Shoot away" he laid down his cards on whatever Supergirl had to tell him.

Supergirl could only feel like she was trapped by her words, that she couldn't even open her mouth to speak as she only blankly stared at him in a sense of nervousness and fear as she kept soaring through the sky and clouds, colored with pinks, blues and oranges like the sky in Summer time.

She was unsure how to even say it, regretting she even said anything as she felt her heart beginning to sink and bring down any confidence she had before.

"Eh... You okay? Do you need some time to figure out what you're gonna say?" Y/N then questioned her softly, snapping her out of her little daydream as she laughed nervously.

"I... I don't exactly know how to even tell you this in some form possible since I'm bad at telling stuff like this..." she took a pause to think about her words after nervously laughing, she was ready... Ready to tell him the feelings she's suppressed. "I... I-I have f-feelings that I've been suppressing... For you" she told him fair and square. 'No backing up now' she thought.

The Girl of Steel saw the look of shock on the Lightbearers face after she came out and told him, she wasn't sure if it was bad or good, she was new to this sort of thing, coming out to tell someone you like them? That wasn't her strong-suit, especially since she felt vulnerable around him.

"I...I..."

"I know! I know! It's crazy, I know!" Kara sputtered out. "Look, for a while, I've been having those feelings and I wasn't quite sure how to even process them or even say anything about them, all those times where I would catch myself staring at you or think about you too often? Is when I began to realize that I couldn't stop thinking about you" the Girl of Steel continued, with the overlapping of her cape flapping behind her. "It's crazy, but I wish I could explain your eyes, and how the sound of your voice gives me butterflies. How your smile makes my heart skip a beat, and the fact I feel so complete around you every time I'm with you, how I feel so vulnerable too when I'm with you." she confessed further, not turning back now as her cheeks flushed red completely. "I'm sorry... I... *Sigh*"

Y/N only blinked at her a few times, taking in all the words Supergirl sputtered out to him before giving her a heartwarming smile.

"Wow... I... *Light chuckle* I wasn't expecting that" his smile grew big. "Well? Since that's now out... I guess it's fair to say that I come out clean and say I also had feelings for you, too" he surprised her with his confession with her heart fluttering from those words of confirmation.

"R-R-Really?! You like me?!" a relieved and excited Kara Zor-El asked in a higher tone, making the Lightbearer in her arms, laugh at her softly as he pulled down his hood.

"Hahaha, yeah! I do!" he confessed again. "I hadn't felt that way in a while, until... Well... You debuted to the world as Supergirl" he told her fair and square, without hesitation. "And honestly? You're one of the reminders that me coming here due to an accident was totally worth-it. As people of this generation say? You're a gem, Kara".

"T'aww... Stop, you're making me blush here" she giggled while blushing like she said she was.

"If it's making you blush? I'll keep saying it" he laughed. "And Kara? I would love to go on one of those dates with you" he said next, much to Supergirl's surprise.

"You would?! Really?!!" she asked in her uncontained excited tone as he only nodded. "Thank Rao! I honestly thought you would reject me".

"Reject you?" he asked flabbergasted. "Why would I? You confessed, I confessed. I'd never turn you down, I haven't felt like this in so long... I like to think that when you wrapped me up in your cape? I do admit... I felt... Hella lot safer, call that one of my vulnerabilities around you" he let the cat out of the bag about his vulnerability around her, making her smile more.

"And what's the other ones?" she asked with a little smirk.

"I believe you already know em" he smirked back at her. "I'm one-hundred percent with this too, seriously... I'd love to go on a date with you".

"Great!" she smiled brighter than a star with her baby blues staring in his eyes, locking eye contact. "How does this Friday sound?" she asked.

"Fine to me" he acknowledged and answered. "Though I do gotta ask? Does work count as a date?".

Supergirl burst out giggling at his question, her giggle was contagious for him to join alongside her. "Oh Y/N. No... I'm meaning a romantic date. What you said is different, as much as I would looove to call those times a date" she smiled.

"Couldn't have it any other way" he smiled before booping Kara's nose... Enjoying the rest of the flight back home...

To be continued...

A/N: It's happened... FINALLY, YOU ALL CAN BE HAPPY NOW!!

*Clears throat*

Sorry, I guess I got a little excited there too myself, I mean? Who wouldn't? Having the Main Character, being... Well you, kicking off a (romantic) relationship with the said female character you're shipped with... Which is Supergirl/Kara Zor-El...

A lot of y'all seem to like how I've done Kara in this book as well...

Which speaks wonders for the uh... Questionable stuff the writers done with her in her early Vol-5 comics, if you know what I'm talking about? You know exactly what I'm talking about 💀

Nonetheless, be sure to tune in next time for the next chapter...
