S1 - Ch.2 - World's Finest

The Guardian looks up at the Golden Statue of the man he and his Ghost first saw after he himself, awoke within the unknown destination, still his mind was confused and unclear on the matter.

"So... Found out where we are yet?" Y/N asked his Ghost, who was currently out of sight, figuring out where they had gone.

"Still... Working on it" Glace responded thoroughly.

The Hunter hummed and looked back up at the statue, he noticed the same looking S that was on the statue itself, the caped man with an eagle perched on his left arm.

(A/N: It's the only best image I can provide, can't find a better one anywhere unfortunately)

"Seems like he's worshipped, they built a statue for this... Man" he seemingly scoffed. "Same symbol we saw on the wall before that contraption activated and sucked us in"

"I think you forgot to mention that you dropped Ace through the portal... So it's your fault we're here" Glace spoke with sass.

"Hey! It was an accident!" Y/N raised his voice"

Glace scoffed and repeated his answer in a mocking way with her Guardian groaning an annoyed sigh, before she picked up an energy source, curious enough, she began to analyze it further. "Strange? I'm picking up a... Light source?" she couldn't even process her words further.

"What? A Light source? Where?" Y/N's eyes suddenly shifted away from the statue and summoned Glace above the palm of his hand.

"Hang on" she looked away for a moment, distant sirens wailed out within the city, outside of what seemed to be the park of this city. "Got it! *garble* Pinging the location into your neural interface and it's given off readings like the Shard of the Traveler".

"So it's a Shard of Light? Odd" The location pinged within the Guardian's neural interface as he saw the pinged marker through the trees. "Can you summon my Sparrow?" Y/N asked his Ghost, who in-turn looked at him.

"I... I can't... Not right now, unless we can use transmat beacons in certain location to allow us to transmat, we have some spare if needed" Glace responded.

"So... We're walking?" Y/N slightly groaned.

"Yep... We're walking" Glace remarked. "The city we're in is populated, I can't seem to find any records about this... City... So we'll need to find a databank to know more information as well".

"Well... Mark a databank that you can detect, first let's investigate the Light source..."

Ten Minutes Earlier

Under Wayne Manor, Gotham

A man is seen working on his computer, seemingly overlooking activity all around the world as of this minute, within a cave under his Manor.

He called it... The Bat Cave

Seemingly teams of heroes working all around the globe, solving disasters, keeping innocent people safe along with fighting those who defy the law and wreck havoc for their own goals. The teams being the Teen Titans, the J.S.A (Justice Society of America) and The Outsiders, led by his former partner: Robin... Now Nightwing.

The man however was part of the group known as the Justice League. the first team of heroes before the others... At least he was a part timer of the League overall, he mostly roamed the city he has known for years now, Gotham City... Even after his parents were killed in front of him in an alley... Nicknamed, Crime Alley.

He was called many names...

The Caped Crusader.

The Dark Knight.

The World's Greatest Detective.

The Bat...

But the world knows him...

As Batman.

But underneath the cape and cowl, he is a wealthy man named Bruce Wayne, Billionaire Playboy, owner of Wayne Tech Industries.

Currently, he was overlooking activity around the world, until a strange energy source popped up on his computer.

Curious, he investigated the source on his computer, the location of the source was in Metropolis... Where his quote on quote, best friend, patrols. That man being the Alien from the planet Krypton: Superman.

He of course is known as Kal-El through birth but underwent the name Clark Kent... Adopted by the Kents that live on a farm in Kansas since he arrived to Earth as a baby with no recollection of Krypton.

Kansas, Smallville, a nice place and town... Probably the safest town in the United States as of right now. Though it has it's regular tornadoes and such at times... Often not as common nowadays.

However... Clark and his alter-ego: Superman work within Metropolis, a city of wonder and opportunity.

Unlike Gotham, Metropolis was bright and colorful, not drowsy and dangerous as Gotham is... Sure criminals in Metropolis are scary and dangerous... But Gotham's criminals are the most cruel and more darker than of Superman's foes in Metropolis.

The Batman hummed with a curious tone, the energy source the Bat-Computer detected was unlike anything... It radiated with an unknown element from what he could see on the computer.

As he continued analyzing with the Bat-Computer, another strange source popped up not far from the original source the computer picked up from his scanners, which made him more suspicious about the energy sources further.

It was then that he heard someone approach from behind after hearing a man in his mid 50s approach with a tray and a cup of tea on the little tray.

"Care to have some tea, sir?" the British man in his mid 50s spoke, wearing an outfit that suited a butler... Let alone... He is a butler... Bruce Wayne's butler.

"Not right now, Alfred" Bruce politely declined as he continued analyzing the source on his computer.

"It is freshly made, sir. Are you certain?" the butler asked in a nice manner, Bruce didn't look at him as he continued on working.

"Not at this minute, currently investigating a strange energy source the Bat-Computer just picked up, no doubt I'll be staying long for tea, Alfred" The Bat replied, the computer zoomed on into the secondary energy source that just popped up after the first.

"Very well, sir" Alfred acknowledged, the kind butler walked off as Bruce continued his work, analyzing the energy source.

'Hmm. Both energy sources are giving off a similar source of energy, both potent and radiating with an unknown energy source. Things would be easier if it were Gotham... But this is Metropolis, it's not my turf'

Batman then decided the best idea was to call Clark, Metropolis is his turf. He wouldn't go to Metropolis if it meant dealing with some unknown energy source not even The World's Greatest Detective can understand... The readings were off the charts.

"Clark... It's Batman. Something strange has popped up on radar in Metropolis" Batman spoke through the communicator set between him and Clark alone.

"You don't say" Superman responded. Seemingly like he was caught by surprise and hurt by something. "Because I'm being attacked by strange beings right at this minute" he spoke out, staring down many bluish-white and black foes that attacked him.

Behind him was a white glowing crystal, pure energy radiating from it.

"I might need help to deal with these... Strange beings" he spoke as a loud disorienting roar screamed out from one of the foes. They all had the same colors on them, the bluish-white coming up from their legs to the black that radiated off of them on their bodies and head, a white glowing eye in the middle of their face.

Each with their own different body structure, some flesh... Some robotic, some even spoke differently than the other.

The communication was cut off, the roar being the last thing Bruce heard... Forcing him to sprang off his seat, knowing Clark was in danger, him asking for help was something non pleasant to hear.

The Bat quickly made his way over... To the Bat-Plane...

A/N: I think I've stated that I'd be using music for these stories as well... Mostly for this story... Music from Destiny 1 and 2... Maybe even fan-made music?

There's an ambient, tension, action and high action versions of the music found in the games, so you'll see em frequently used in this story

"How much further? This place seems to be a puzzle at this point" groaned out the Guardian, with Ace in his hand, ready to fire at anything that comes out with hostility.

"Not far now. *garble* It's nice here, I think the Last City should have something like this place" Glace thought out loud, expecting a response from her Guardian. "Don't you agree, Y/N?".

"Hmm... Maybe" he shrugged. "I do kinda miss going on these types of wacky adventures... Though it doesn't feel the same anymore without our fireteam..." he lowly spoke, remembering his fireteam before the Red War happened a year ago.

Glace took the hint of the guilt he still held, feeling sad herself. "You're still blaming yourself?" she asked. "Don't" Y/N closed his mouth, interrupted by his Ghost herself. "*garble* Their deaths weren't your fault... We were Lightless, *garble* unable to even fight back after Ghaul trapped the Traveler in that suppressive cage".

"But I should've stayed behind... If I did... They..." he clutched his hand tightly before sighing. "I still don't get it... Why did they want me to run? I led our fireteam... And yet... Ogris wanted me to run while he and Emi stayed behind to buy me time" he felt a little frustrated about it... Seemingly it has been on his mind since then, still not understanding their sacrifice.

"Zain! Get your ass out of here, we'll hold off the Cabal!"

"What? Ogris, no. You two get out, I'll hold them off" Y/N refused to leave his fireteam behind, Lightless and running low on ammo.

"Y/N, there's not much time" Emi spoke, her voice shaky but hissing. Removing her helmet to look at her fireteam leader in the eye. "You're more important than you realize, we would die to protect you, as you've done for us"

"So you could survive" Glace responded, Y/N looked at her as she uncloaked herself. "They wanted you to survive, I don't know why they wanted you to run in context, but in theory? Maybe... Maybe you and I are important for something?"

"What does that mean?" Y/N curiously asked.

"Again... I don't know... I remember them discussing something they saw but I couldn't tell what it was" she revealed. "Whatever it was? Maybe it could be... This?" she floated in circles around him, giving him the hint of his surroundings.

"Maybe" he shrugged again. "It just doesn't make any sense, maybe for the Red War but... What could've they meant?" the Guardian pondered, lost in thought, coming closer to the Light source's energy signal.

As Glace was about to respond to his question, their continued journey throughout the... Park, the Ghost had picked up a familiar reading. "Uh... Y/N".

The sound of Glace's worried voice seemingly broke the Guardian out of his thoughts. "What is it? Your voice screams something bad is up-ahead".

"You're right... I'm detecting sterile neutrinos up-ahead" Glace looked right at Y/N who's face turned into a frown.

"I know exactly what that means" he scowled, both could practically hear thunderous booms sound out up-ahead, seemingly spawning in one of the Guardian's many foes. "The Taken".

Glace disappeared out of sight as Y/N rushed up, hand cannon gripped tight as he narrowly dodged something come right at him as he made his way.

"Woah!" he dodged to the side, two red laser beams rapidly came flying out through a bush, along with the sounds of a man struggling to fight. The sounds of this man in peril seemingly made Y/N more cautious. "The hell was that?"

"The Taken are attacking someone, of course The Taken are here, wherever the Light is, The Taken follow" Glace referenced back what Ikora once said on Io during the Red War

Further investigation soon followed as Y/N peaked through the bushes, seeing a man in a red cape and a blue suit who wore... Red underpants with a yellow belt? Was fighting back against the growing Taken forces, seemingly overpowering him.

"Wait, is that?"

"The man with that gold statue back there? Looks like it" Y/N whispered. Seeing a Taken Captain (formally a Fallen Captain) trap the man in suppressive Taken energy as it cackled with a disorienting tone, carrying his swords.

(Taken Captain)

"And he's in danger *garble* what made him think he can fight The Taken?" Glace asked with a scoff.

"Questions later, let's go kick The Taken's ass away from that... Shard of Light and that... Person" Y/N spotted the Light source, Glace detected earlier, aiming his weapon at the Taken Captain that was about to kill the man. "Hey! You glowing bulb!" he shot his weapon at the Taken Captain's sword, shooting it out of its hand as it growled.

https://youtu.be/Q6FLH-dZxf4

"Pick on someone your own size!" Y/N shouted out, the Captain roared out as The Taken began attacking him instead of the strange man in the red cape.

Taken Vandals perched on higher rocks began firing down at Y/N first, luckily the Guardian dodged the shots, only needing one bullet to aim for their heads each, taking them out swiftly

(Taken Vandal, Formally Fallen Vandal)

Approaching Taken enemies began to fire upon Y/N as he dodged outward to his upper left, putting a few rounds into ravenous Taken Acolytes, despite them having Void shield defenses, he had a workaround.

(Ravenous Taken Acolyte, formally Hive Acolyte, stronger version of a Taken Acolyte)

"Damn ravenous Taken Acolytes!" Glace grumbled. "Y/N, use your Nightstalker bow!" Glace suggested loudly.

"And where does Ace go?" Y/N shouted over the incoming fire.

"I got it!" the gun disappeared out of his hands, having the Guardian smirk as his hands hummed with a purple energy, forming a bow out of Void Light

With quick precision, he summoned the bow of the Nightstalker, pulling back the string where an arrow appeared and simply...

Let go.

The arrow hit the Ravenous Taken Acolyte, taking it out with one Void arrow, before a tether came out from the arrow in the form of a Void ball of Light, tethering up any Taken near it before a huge explosion of Void Light erupted throughout the trees, filling the air with purple energy bursting out like a firework.

"Making Cayde proud with that explosion" Y/N chuckled.

"Guardian, look out! Fallen Captain!" Glace warned loudly, the Taken Captain gained Y/N's attention with it firing out a suppressive field of Taken energy.

Y/N took no time and triple jumped over the radius of the Taken blast the Captain sent out before landing on the ground, seeing the man struggle to get up on his knees.

"Glace! Give me Ace!" Y/N demanded, the gun soon appearing in his hand.

"You're welcome!" she shouted as an orange hum of energy flowed from his arm to the gun itself.

"This is for you Cayde, one Gunslinger to another" Y/N mumbled before raising his gun high up into the air, a loud collection of noise and fire sounded out like a gunshot as Y/N's aura glowed orange and bright.

Within the next few seconds... Shots ringed out with two hammer fire shots from Y/N's Golden Gun, incinerating the Taken Captain with just two shots, its essence disappearing through a small portal like the rest of The Taken went upon death.

"Is he with you?" Y/N noticed someone new come to the aid of the red caped man, a man with a cape and cowl, seemingly looking like a bat.

"I thought he was with you?" the red caped man replied, being helped up by the man dressed as a bat, meanwhile the Guardian had caught their attention. "I've never seen anyone like him, or them, new hero perhaps?".

"Most likely, though I have suspicions he might not be from here" The Bat spoke as he stared down the Guardian. "I detect Solar radiation coming from him, but at a frequency of that shard over there" he added as the Guardian approached.

"Always expecting the worse, aren't you, Bruce?" the man chuckled, earning a glare from The Bat.

"Uh... You uh... Costumed fellas alright?" Y/N spoke... Confused but baffled at the two.

"You saved me, can't thank you enough. You seemed to know how to fight those things" The red caped man spoke with a weakened smile as he was being helped up to his feet.

"Those things? They're called The Taken, formally Hive, Vex, Cabal and Fallen... A power that Oryx stole from some Hive Worm God to become the Taken King" Y/N explained, labelling the confusion on both the caped men's faces. "Heh... Well... I know it sounds crazy, but-" he was soon interrupted by more Taken spawning in, the noise made it clearer enough for him. "Damnit! More Taken?! You two, try and extract that Shard of Light from that rock or whatever, leave the Taken to me"

https://youtu.be/a0IUO8H9wvA

"He sure knows what to do" the red caped man chuckled. "And his powers seem incredible" the man felt himself regenerating at a high pace, no thanks to Y/N's Solar Light earlier.

"Help the stranger out, I've got the crystal" The Bat shouted out, running toward the crystal as he took a miniature laser out from his utility belt.

The red caped man looked toward the Guardian who's hands were crackling with blue energy, sparking out electricity before he began spinning a form of a staff into existence with an electric thunderous sound.

A/N: Couldn't find a better gif... So here's one that looks alright

The red caped man simply floated up into the air and watched as the Guardian summoned the staff of Arc Light into his hands, crackling with lightning, he flowed like the storm, dodging incoming fire, spinning the staff to reflect incoming projectiles from Ravenous Taken Boomer Knights (It's the name of their weapon... In the game it deals a lot of damage to the player).

(Ravenous Taken Knight, formally Hive)

The man himself was shocked... He has never seen a power like this before, knowing this... Stranger controls at least three elements, two identifiable, the other? Being Void? He thought of it as dark matter like out in outer space.

"You should try using your Bladedancer blade again sometime, Guardian" Glace called back to an old ability of Y/N's... Before the Red War.

"Staff's better" he remarked, spinning the staff over his head before doing a spin himself and extending his palm out, a force of lightning shot out with a blast, killing Taken Vandals that confronted him.

More Taken spawned in not far from him which give him the option to throw his staff at their spawn location. He leaped up into the air by spinning his staff above his head like one of those Helicopter's from the Golden Age, before throwing the staff down... Gathering Storm.

The staff hit the ground, before erupting with Arc Light, completely decimating the Taken forces that spawned in as he landed onto the ground.

"Done and dusted" his weapon in his hand again before reloading, not knowing what was behind him.

"Behind you!" Glace called out, before he snapped round, it seemed the problem was taken care of.

"I've got it!" the red caped man spoke while holding a Taken Captain by the neck before his eyes fired red lasers into the Taken Captain.

"You... You also have powers? Not Light but..." Y/N was sure confused on the matter, the man could levitate and fly even as he began helping out Y/N with a few stragglers of Taken.

"I do... I'm an alien, I'm Superman" the Man of Steel gave the Guardian a smile.

"What kinda name is that?" Glace asked, Y/N hummed a "don't know" toward her.

"What's yours, young man?" Superman asked as he narrowly dodged a shot from a Taken Vandal with his super speed and hearing, launching himself toward the poor Taken Vandal and punched it immediately.

"Y/N... Or Zain, whichever works" the Guardian answered. Shooting his hand cannon toward more incoming Taken.

"No secret identity?" the man asked.

"What?! You got one?"

"I do, won't say it right now. Let's deal with these... Taken, first" The Man of Steel sure was still a little confused on these new foes, let alone he can get hurt from The Taken, their magic was unlike anything to him. "How's it coming, Batman?!" he called out, seemingly the man dressed as a bat working on extracting the crystal from the rock.

"I can't get it out! The rock is solid, I'm unable to set it free!" Batman replied, struggling to get the Shard of Light extracted from the rock.

With no more than a batch of Taken left, a huge Taken Ogre spawned in, roaring out which gained everyone's attention.

"That's... A big one" Superman's eyes widened as its gaze focused on him before roaring out.

(Devoured Taken Ogre, formally Hive)

"Uh that's a Taken Ogre, a Major one... Retreat Super... Person, I've got this!" Y/N told Superman to retreat as he was about to unleash a barrage of blades toward the last few.

The Man of Steel watched as the Guardian leaped twelve feet into the air, his body glowed with a fiery aura of Solar Light as at least sixteen to eighteen knives thrown toward the Devoured Taken Ogre.

The Knives attached to the Taken Ogre before exploding in Solar Light, killing it instantly as it roared, its essence disappearing through a miniature portal.

(Music ends)

"That's The Taken took care of" Glace spoke.

"For now" Y/N responded. "Let's get that Shard of Light" he then rushed over to where Batman was working, trying to find other methods to extract the shard.

"Whatever this residue is... It's potent" The Guardian heard Batman talk into his cowl, seemingly talking to someone else as he examines the crystal as Y/N joins in with Superman behind him.

"Allow me to extract the Shard of Light" he loaded his weapon, aiming it at the rock as Batman stood up, standing back a little as Y/N unloaded a few shots into the rock, cracking the rock completely.

With enough effort, Y/N used one hand to pull out the Shard of Light with ease as the other two watched. "What is that crystal? You called it a shard, right?" Superman asked.

"It's a Shard of Light, a source of the Traveler's power"

"The Traveler?" Batman asked in a curious tone.

Y/N blankly stared at him, realizing these two had no clue what he was on about.

"I think I might be correct on one theory" Glace chimed in.

"And what's that, Glace?" he looked away for a moment to speak with Glace, the two of the World's Finest looked at each other next for answers, not having any.

"We might have ended up into the past... Or... Another reality altogether" Glace answered, she hadn't steered Y/N in the wrong way before, convincing him otherwise.

"If I hadn't cut my holster on accident, we wouldn't be in this mess"

"Who's we?" Batman interrogated, stepping closer to the Guardian with his back turned to him.

"Who's Glace?" Superman then asked, wanting to know as he crossed his arms. "Ease up on him Batman, he looks young"

"He doesn't sound like it, let alone, he took out all those extraterrestrials without breaking a sweat... He has experience from what I've seen"

"Think I should reveal myself, don't you think? *garble* To ease up confusion and well... Distrust"

"But we don't know them... Yet, enough" Y/N responded.

"Well they seem to be friendly, *long garble* they might have answers to where we really are... We really owe them answers too" Glace made her point clear. "You did save one of them, so they at least owe us answers to where exactly we are, my theory still is we're in the past beyond the Golden Age or... Another reality, which Golden Age scientists discovered other realities before The Collapse".

Zain sighed loudly, as he nodded his head slowly. "You're right, we need answers, and they need answers too" he spoke before turning round to face the World's Finest. "I know you have a lot of questions, so I'll answer them, as long as you tell us where we are. My Ghost thinks we're in the past beyond the Golden Age... Or another reality" he willingly looked at both of them, finally making eye contact.

"Just as I thought, you were the secondary energy source, analyzing it further, I found the source had a form of cosmic energy that can mean one thing" Batman replied. "You're from another universe altogether"

"So, Glace... You were right"

"I knew it!" Glace revealed herself, surprising the World's Finest as Glace done a circle around Y/N. "What did I tell you? I always get my things right! Well... Not all the time, but still!"

"Haha, alright Glace, simmer down, I get it" her Guardian chuckled.

"And this is... Glace I presume?" Superman asked with a curious facial expression.

"Oh, hi! Yes that's my name! And this is my Guardian, Y/N"

"Or Zain... Whichever works" Y/N finished, rolling his eyes as he pulls down his hood.

"Well... That's introductions from you two, you already know me as Superman, but you can call me Clark... Not while I'm wearing this of course" he gestured down to his... Attire. "This is... Uh, you wanna tell them?" he whispered to Batman.

"No" the Caped Crusader refused.

"Well it's... Batman" Superman gestured with a kind smile.

"I mean... He has a Bat for his symbol... And you have an S on your... Attire so that makes sense" Y/N joked with a chuckle. "Eh... Sorry, I had to say it".

"Anyway... We... Is there somewhere we can*garble* discuss our current situation at? Not out here of course" Glace asked politely. "Because we might be stuck here for a while" Glace said with worry.

"There is" Batman responded.

"We also don't know much about other realities but we've had our fair share of alternate realities and Earths, we'll try our best to find which Earth you came from" Superman approached and placed a comforting hand on the Guardian's shoulder. "I promise"

"Thank you" Y/N smiled slightly. "Zavala's gonna be worried for some time" he muttered, though Superman heard what he said, he chose to ignore it... Knowing this... Zavala will be known later.

"But first, we're taking you both to the Bat-Cave, I'll have Oracle run a scan on that Shard of Light. I have a lot of questions I need answered" Batman spoke, almost intimidating like as he approached the Guardian and his Ghost...

"Well... This is gonna be fun"...
