S1 - Ch.19 - A Chamber of... Something.
A few days had gone by since Y/N had moved into Kara's newest apartment she bought for herself and him too, maybe Glace but she lives rent free in the Guardian's pocket dimension backpack.
Currently, the Girl of Steel is seen flying high above the clouds, eyes closed as she soars through the skies with her arms expressed out like she had wings, smiling happily as she listens toward the city below.
She's made quite a reputation since showing up in New York, making a difference in a way also as Supergirl, but she wondered...
Should she get herself a secret identity to blend in with Humans? Maybe get a job to pay up the rent herself instead of having to rely on a reliable source?
The question had been boggling her mind the last few days after Y/N mentioned getting recognized a lot in public, due to him showing his face every single time.
The glasses trick surely would work? Nope... He refused, he didn't quite understand how in the world or "Traveler" he put it, that worked at all... Kara had quite the giggle out of it.
"Nothing better than soaring through the skies on a sunny day" Supergirl spoke to herself, or so it seemed like it... She heard a small chuckle within her communicator.
"The only thing that keeps me in the air... Is my ship, I ain't no Warlock that can glide or do what Ikora can do" Y/N seemed to complain about it, making the Girl of Steel smirk.
"Jealous much?" she teased before giggling at the Guardian's groan. "What? Just asking".
"Nah it ain't that" he responded. "Found more Hive, they've dug themselves deep into a cavern" he explained his frustration.
"Need help? Might need some Girl Power" she asked, offering to help... However, he was on the other side of the world at the moment, though Supergirl can fly over to him in seconds if she wanted.
"Nah, it's not much... Just a small batch, nothing that I can't handle. What're you doing right now?" he then asked her as she sighed happily.
"Isn't it obvious?" she asked with a smug look. "Flying high and mighty above New York, patrolling the city, already helped some folk but no crimes as of yet" she began to sound bored.
"Seems... Boring, just like Cayde getting stuck on the tower as Hunter Vanguard... Couldn't be me".
"You think I chose the wrong kinda place where we could live?" Kara then asked, continuing to fly off again with her fist in front of her. "Not that I don't like New York... It can seem... Like less activity is around here, y'know?".
"If this was the Last City? You'd say the same thing" he deadpanned, shooting some incoming Thrall with his sniper.
"Well... I haven't exactly seen it yet, since it's... In your world".
"Well, ask Glace sometime and she can pop up a hologram of the city, it's huge, lots of people in it... They might like you come to think of it" he continued.
"Hmm, if I ever get to interact with them" Y/N found Kara's words doubtful, but he did hope something could be done nonetheless, before Kara could continue the conversation, her super hearing picks up activity that seemed to be a crime. "Ah finally! Something to punch".
"Crime?" he asked.
"Yep, I'll talk with ya later, we can catch up on anything weird... If it happens" she responded while soaring down from the clouds, her cape billowing behind her heroically.
"Yeah, I suppose so... Good luck!" he gave her a good omen before tabbing out the comms.
Supergirl had burst herself forward with more speed as she flew past the skyscrapers, using her super hearing to find the commotion with a woman screaming for help, a couple of thugs seeming to bother her.
Just as she kept flying toward the scene of the crime, she picked up some odd noise that seemed to stop the woman's cries for help.
"Who the fuck is this - ARGH!!" the sound of threaded like noises ringed out loudly, attacking the aggressors as Supergirl increased her flight speed to get there faster and she did so...
She flew down, leaving a small crator on the ground as the woman ran by. "Supergirl?!".
"Are you okay? What happened?" she asked in a calm tone as the woman only pointed toward the alleyway she ran from, grabbing Kara's most divided attention.
Curious, the Girl of Steel x-rayed the corner to see a lone person, standing over at least a couple of thugs, unconscious seemingly but wounded, the figure looked to be male, judging from body structure. However... He gave off a strange aura as Supergirl rounded the corner.
"Excuse me, whoever you are" Supergirl spoke in a heroic tone, jamming her fists into her hips to make herself look intimidating. "But I don't recall seeing someone like you before, you new?".
The male figure, clad in a odd looking armor with a hood over the top of his helmet, looked back at the Girl of Steel as his spear weapon magically disappeared.
"Really?" the unidentified male spoke, scoffing at the girl's posture. "If you're gonna be a hero, cut the heroic tone and that pose, it's overrated" a voice modulator masked the sound of his voice, preventing anyone from detecting what he sounded like as Supergirl looked off at him, offended in a way.
"Scuse me? What gives you the right to scold me about me posing? It makes me feel... Empowered" she squinted her eyes toward him, using her x-ray vision as her eyes hued a bluish color much like her baby blues.
"Tryna see past my helmet? Sorry ma'am, no peeking under this" Supergirl noticed the man make a move with his... Bionic arm? Which morphed into a weapon and shot an energy blast at her as he began to make a run for it.
Supergirl tanked the hit and went after the stranger, surprised by how agile and flexible he was, scaling the wall up to the roof, the girl rolled her eyes and flew up.
"Where do you think you're going?" she appeared in front of him as he began to backtrack. "Yawn... I can do this in my sleep" she sped up in front of him again, yawning to tease the stranger who wasn't agitated in the slightest. "Alright, times up, I'm taking you-"
The stranger pulled off a dick move and attacked, using a staff this time to attack as she caught it in an instant. "Really?" she asked before he swept her under her feet. "What the fuck?".
"You're cocky, if that's what you're asking" he replied.
"Cocky? No, maybe I underestimated you... You're strong, for a Human" Kara complimented before speeding at him to land a flurry of punches, all while? The stranger dodged, blocked, even parried which seemed to surprise the Girl of Steel.
'Rao, this guy is something else! How is he dodging my moves so quickly? He has no powers... Or does he?'
"You've got great power, but do you know how to use it responsibly?" he asked, pulling out a smoke bomb and popped it onto the ground.
"Of course I do! I've been doing this for some time now" she seemed to carry on the conversation, never thinking she'd be having one with a stranger who seemed to be a vigilante. "But don't think this conversation is a way for you to slither away, I've got questions that I want answered" using her breath, she sucked up the remaining smoke left behind the grenade, revealing the stranger.
He seemed to be defenseless, giving Kara the opportunity to rush him. "I gotcha no-wha?" the stranger disappeared like a hologram, taking her by surprise as a whistle called her out, before Kara felt herself get hit again... This time? The attack left her on the ground, Kara cursed in Kryptonese after being caught off guard... She knew not to be cocky, but did so anyway.
"I've studied you all, found out your weaknesses, for research purposes of course, not to use against you... Well... Unlike I did the now" the stranger spoke as Supergirl managed to turn round.
"K-K-Kryptonite?" she asked with a flabbergasted tone.
"Nothing personal, Supergirl. I haven't fought a hero in a while, you maybe still new... But in time? You'll grow and become better" he seemed nice enough to compliment her as he activated a portal with a device he carried. "But I've got places to be, not exactly looking to live here".
"Wait..." Supergirl called out for the stranger as he looked back slightly. "Please tell me... I... I promised I'd give a... A, a friend of mine a weird story from myself... Who are you?" she asked as the stranger chuckled at her question.
"Just... A stranger passing through, those thugs were nearby and I stopped them. That's all" he gave his answer before looking back at the portal... But then... He stopped again. "You have her eyes, y'know? But... You're not her, that's for sure..." he seemed saddened about it before walking through the portal, leaving behind a confused Girl of Steel...
She questioned on what the stranger even said... Who's eyes? Who this person he mentioned?
Was it someone he beloved? Or someone closer than that??
She guessed she'd find out one day... If the stranger ever showed up again for that matter.
Supergirl levitated up into the sky once more, dusting herself off as she does so to continue patrolling the city after the... Strange encounter, just as her communicator between herself and the Guardian buzzes off.
"Eh... Supergirl?" a puzzled Y/N spoke on the other side of the comms, his tone amusing Kara as she knew from his tone he needed help.
"Need help huh?" an amused Kara Zor-El chuckled after tapping on her communicator within her earlobe. "Thought you didn't need help?".
"Well... For the Hive? Done that... But it's something else... I need your uh... Guns if you know what I mean, less you're still busy, I can call Wonder Girl or someone else with super strength to assist me here" Kara looked at her fists and biceps for a brief moment, smirking heavily as she sprung her fists out in front of her.
"Already on my way, sounds like a job for Supergirl!" she giggled at herself saying her own version of Kal's monologue, hearing a groan on her comms next.
"I hate that so much... Sounds so... Corny".
"You're corny!" the Girl of Steel fired back at him playfully. "In a good way".
Y/N could only laugh softly at her. "Aww, I'm touched".
"You're welcome! I'll be there shortly, hang tight!"
* *
The Guardian waited patiently for his... "Partner" to arrive, Kara had a knack of taking her time when it came to flying at times, since it was one of her favorite superpowers that she has... Besides the other powers she got that are handy, flight seems to be her most favorite, being able to fly out of Earth's orbit and fly around in the gulf of space.
Though the breathing thing was a little... Strange to talk about, she could speak in space, even Kara was a little confused but thought it was a neat thing to talk in space, even if she still needed to have some air left in her lungs to do so... The hearing part?
That was a different story...
"So he just... Left with a kind word?" Y/N asked with a little confused tone in his voice, even Glace questioned it too, floating beside her Guardian like all Ghosts do.
"Yeah, though he thinks I should drop the posing act, you know that pose?" Kara asked over the comms, still flying toward the Guardian's position across the Earth.
"Yeah, I know what one... You've done it a lot" Y/N could just imagine her doing it right now, even in the air as he silently rolled his eyes.
"Makes me feel empowered!" she spoke cheerfully. "Besides... (WHOOSH!) I'm here now!" the fabrics of Supergirl's suit billowed side to side with her finally arriving in a gust of wind, striking her traditional superhero pose as the Guardian rolls his eyes, once more.
the Girl of Steel then looked at her surroundings, seeing Hive bones spreaded across the cavern floor, taking in Y/N's work. "This all you? Remind me never to piss you off" she winked.
"Ha! Unlikely you'd piss me off, I'd never get mad at you" he smiled at her before sitting up from the rock he took a seat on. "Glace, if you mind?".
"Roger. Kara, over here" Glace floated off with Kara giving Y/N a cocked-up eyebrow.
"What's going on? Thought you needed my guns?".
"We do... It's to punch a wall" he told her, easing her confused expression.
"Oh... A wall? Sounds fun" she said with sarcasm. "Why a wall, exactly?".
"Use your x-ray vision thingy where Glace is, and you'll see why" he replied as he walked over to the wall, standing near but a few feet away.
Supergirl still gave off her confused expression but shrugged her shoulders and used her x-ray vision as Y/N hoped she would, a sense of surprise bewildering her next as the wall contained a hidden passage of... Stairs.
"Huh? There's a hidden passage, stairs... Could be a Chamber of Secrets under there" Kara smirked after quoting a pop culture reference, which sprang a look of confusion upon the Guardian's face.
"Uh... Was that meant to be a reference to something? I don't quite get it" Y/N replied as Supergirl looked at him with shock on her face, eyes widening at his lack of pop culture.
"WHAT?!! You haven't read and watched the Harry Potter books and movies?!" the girl herself couldn't believe the words that came out of the Guardian's mouth, sure he's a Space Cowboy in a way, with space magic but she imagined the shock on Cassie's face if he said that around her... It wouldn't be prideful. "Or at least know some of it??! Omigod, I'm definitely gonna have you watch a Harry Potter movie with me tonight!" she insisted.
"Walked right into that one, didn't I?" Y/N asked himself as Glace hummed her response.
"Stand back though. Just in case" the Kryptonian girl winked before cracking her knuckles, Glace floated back to her Guardian to witness Kara's sheer willpower, what was a second later. The wall came tumbling down.
Kara looked at her fist before blowing away some wall and rock dust off of her fist before hearing a whistle out of Y/N, standing behind.
"For a girl like me? I hit pretty hard, don't'cha think?" the girl smirked at the Guardian who only smiled in return, though his cheeks flashed a little red.
"C'mon, Supes. Let's head down" he rolled his eyes next, playfully hit her on the arm. Kara smiled back at him as she proceeded to follow, but something stopped her.
She looked away from the back of Y/N's hooded head, her facial expression frowned as she began hearing a voice... Her father's voice?
Before it's blocked out by her initial thoughts on another matter alone, her feelings for the Guardian, bottled up at the side but it was something that still bothered her...
She wasn't sure what to say or how to tell about it, it was something she was still figuring out herself too, Cassie's question still lingered her mind.
"So... Got a crush or have feelings for someone?"
"Supergirl?" Kara mind was brought back to reality by the sudden wake-up from Y/N who placed his hand on her shoulder, proceeding to pull down his hood next. "You okay? You looked to have zoned out for a moment there" he expressed concern for her, after Glace noticed Kara's zoning out just now.
"Um... Y-Yeah, yeah I'm fine... Just thinking, that's all" she replied, though lying about the past part. "C'mon Sparky, let's head down" she smiled again.
"By all means, ladies first" he shuffled to the side, his comment making the superheroine blush lightly as she proceeded forward, with Y/N walking with her.
The partners took the steps down, nothing to noticeable were on the walls, but Y/N and Glace themselves felt as if they'd seen something similar like this before, it felt...
Familiar...
Just as the feeling came to them, the began to see markings on the walls, familiar but... Different.
"Markings? Could have history on them" Kara pointed out the markings on the walls, marking like drawings. Drawings of 2D shaped pyramid like shapes, beside them was swirling markings.
"Perhaps" he replied, the organic duo still walking down before taking the final step down, revealing more to this... Chamber of Secrets, than meets the eye. Kara Zor-El gasped at what she was seeing, a secret underground hidden room, brimming with secrets.
"Omigod... This is so cool!" she fangirled. "Always love these types of hidden passageways, which I should've asked earlier" she turned to Y/N. "Couldn't you have just... Y'know? Shoot at the wall and rocks with your... Rocket gun?".
"Haha, well..." he looked back at her. "I just wanted to see you punch the wall... And I kinda wanted to share this adventure with you, you're welcome" he winked, giving her a smile as Kara could only show a flabbergasted look before smiling bright. Her heart melted from his comment alone.
"That's so sweet of you" Glace chimed in.
"Thought it be better for a change, after all? I'm her partner in a way" he answered back at Glace, leaving a blushing mess on Kara's face.
"Hmm, those markings on the walls" Glace then pondered, making her way to the markings the group saw earlier. "I have a feeling it's telling a story".
"Yeah..." Y/N trailed off as his eyes sighted a familiar circular object, hanging above a planet... "You don't say".
Kara then saw what he was looking at, snapping out of her mess of a blush as she floated up to the big drawing of what seemed to be Earth, surrounded by the same 2D shaped pyramids and the swirling marks. Alongside the circular object. "Is that?".
"That's... That's the Traveler!" Glace expressed with a toned emotion, surprised by the sudden details. "Or I think it is?".
Y/N then noticed more markings on the other side, much clearer drawings, no 2D shaped pyramid things, or the swirls... Just the circular shaped 2D object that looks like it went through a rough time, almost as if it fought back against something. "I think it might be the Traveler" he walked over to the other wall, Glace soon followed him as something else caught Kara's eye.
The Kryptonian floated over to the other side of the room, her eyes widening at the text on the wall... Text she could read and speak it, even translate it... The writing and wording was very familiar to her.
"That is the Traveler! There's the Ghosts! Like me" Kara turned her head toward Y/N and Glace, examining the wall that got their attention, as Kara turned her head back around to continue reading the text that was in language she knew, understood and can speak fluent in it also.
She couldn't believe what she was reading, this text was in Kryptonese... As if someone like her would find this place at some point... Or another Kryptonian at least... The text mentions "Warrior of Light" a few times and something about a totem, along with subtle references to Kryptonian heritage.
"Um... Y/N, Glace" Kara called out, gaining their attention. "You might want to see this".
"What? What's wrong?" Y/N questioned, Kara gestured for him to come over to her, he looked at his Ghost before making his way over, seeing the text on the wall as he began to realize what it was. "Wait? Is that... Kryptonese?" he asked.
"Yep" Kara responded immediately. "I can translate".
"Shoot" he insisted, looking over at his Ghost who floated over to him.
"I leave this text to someone who can translate this, to a Warrior of Light, whoever you may be. Whether you're Kryptonian or not, I only hope is that you're one of the good ones, simply speaking. A Kryptonian of the House of El" she translated the first verse.
"Pretty wild guess on that, you're from the House of El" he brought light on his comment, making Kara give Y/N a small smile before continuing.
"If this particular Warrior of Light is who I predict has found this? Then hope is not lost, not yet anyway. There is a totem, an Artifact that will benefit you, Warrior of Light, within the room ahead of this text, this totem will be waiting for you to pick up... If you're not too late. You must keep the totem on you at all times" Kara translated the second verse of text.
"A totem?" Glace questioned. "Hmm... Is that what I maybe sensing?".
"There's still more text" Y/N's eyes darted to what seemed to be the last line of Kryptonese text as Kara focused on it.
"I can't tell you what this Artifact is or what it can do, as if I do? It could disrupt the space time continuum, leading to disasters and perhaps creating another cataclysmic event like the Flashpoint that wiped this Earth before" the last set of text translated as Kara's eyes widened at the last piece of text. "What does that mean? 'another event like the Flashpoint that wiped this Earth before'?" Supergirl looked back at Y/N with a worried expression. "I do not like the sound of that".
"This reminds me of the Collapse in a way, a cataclysmic event that ended the Golden Age after many decades, the Traveler came back and fended off against this Darkness to save us, sacrificing itself in the process, giving life to the Ghosts" Y/N explained his view on his universe's cataclysmic event that changed everything, forever. "It's still a mystery but... Those markings and drawings on the walls behind us? I think that's detailing the Collapse... Or that's what Glace thinks".
"It's pure speculation, but I know for a fact that's the Traveler back there" Glace doubled down on her speculation.
"Well... The totem is just past the text... So..." she ran her hand over the wall, until she felt something stick out. "A unique looking pressure plate" she called out, pushing it in with ease an unlocking of a lock was heard.
"Look ahead! the wall it's... -"
"Opening" Y/N finished Glace's sentence.
"More secrets... Though it wasn't really a secret much" Kara placed her hands on her hips as she walked herself back to Y/N, watching the wall open up, revealing another room ahead with a small offering pedestal in the middle, showing a triangular shaped, small Artifact, beholding a 2D shaped circular object with a 2D pyramid in the middle of the circular shape.
The duo, along with Glace, entered the room soon after, walking in slowly in case of any traps left for them. Though they thought anything weird would happen... Y/N and Supergirl began to feel a little tingling feeling as they approached the small totem-like Artifact.
"Whoa!" Y/N expressed, something itching at him upon getting closer to the totem. "That was... -".
"Weird" she finished Y/N's sentence, the feeling felt very strange, it may have felt ticklish but... Still weird to her. "Do I look any different?" she asked, touching different parts of her body and face to make sure nothing changed.
"Nope, you still look like eye-candy to me" he said innocently, hearing people say phrases like that before... Though he didn't exactly knew what it meant. He only knew it as a good word to compliment someone.
"Oh..." her cheeks turned from normal, to a blood red immediately after his comment, she knew exactly what it meant but she felt herself giggle at his innocence as he looked at her, confused to why she was in a state of blushing. "Do you know what that means?" she pulled herself together and asked him.
"N-No? I only know it's a good word to compliment someone, I think?" he replied.
"Even I don't know the word's meaning" Glace added in herself.
"Hehe, the word is slang for... Well... For someone who looks attractive and... Pleasing to look at" she kept her blush from going out of control, as Y/N's eyes widened a little.
"Ohhh... Right, I... I should've probably used another word".
"Haha, it's alright!" she reassured him by making eye contact, her hands on his both his upper arms. "I... *bites her tongue before softly chuckling* let's get the totem and head topside, maybe we can grab a bite or two?".
"Sounds good to me! Couldn't agree with you more" the Guardian swiped the totem into his hand as he looked at the front. "Please don't drop a boulder-please don't drop a boulder...".
"Ha! I understood that reference, Indiana Jones" Kara smirked. "Maybe you do have some pop culture in ya".
"I do my research" Y/N gave Supergirl a smile in return. "let's get out of here"...
