S1 - Ch.18 - Roommates

It took some time... But Kara Zor-El finally got something worthwhile, something normal and different for a change instead of being on an island filled with Amazonian women all the time.

Judging from how Kara's been thriving on her newly adopted world, that being Earth, Kara had been looking for something new to live under, an apartment as the Earthlings called it, something which sounds as cozy and comfy to live under a new roof of.

However... It was hers, her own apartment flat, where she could do anything in without being interrupted...

Well...

She thought it at first... But the more she thought about it?

The more she wanted to have some form of company with her, instead of being alone in an apartment flat, so she looked for an apartment flat for two people which had two rooms, one for her and another for someone else.

She had the perfect roommate to not be alone with... The first friend she made ever since coming to Earth, the Guardian from another Earth beyond the naked eye, a universe of Light and Dark.

She already told him about it, knowing not only he would be there but his Ghost also, which to her knowledge, would add some fun to that part, a talkative sentient companion born from a Machine God that can terraform planets?

Why not? She thought.

Y/N however was unsure of the idea of him living in a shared apartment with Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl but she insisted so, and it would be better instead of him living inside a ship all the time, she even wonders if he needs sleep, which Guardian necessarily don't need it, but sometimes they do. He was convinced however.

To Kara's surprise, an anonymous tip had paid for the apartment Kara was looking for in New York for both herself and her other shared roommate, which made her question who it would be but she thinks she has an answer to who it was, thinking of pointy ears on a cowl and would think he'd be grumpy at times.

At this very moment however, Kara was finished with moving most of her stuff in and had already set up the entire apartment to look as completely new and fresh, she left Y/N's room alone just for him but knowing him? He'd want it basic, she was like that too but she added some decorations to give her own bedroom some spark.

She had only recently gotten back with helping the Teen Titans out on a mission within the San Francisco Bay, some old enemies decided to cause a ruckus and the Titans put a stop to them, more easily when they had Supergirl with them, adding more girl power to the team.

This week was interesting for her however, a lot of weird and crazy things had happened within the last two weeks but this week? It sure was interestingly adventurous, especially with going out to outer space.

"Still no sign of Sparky?" Kara questioned, sitting on the olive colored couch, still wearing her superhero attire as she wondered where he was, she thought he'd be hear by now.

It was then she heard the sounds of another visitor, a silent but noticeable meow from a cat... A stray to be precise.

She heard the cries of the stray cat and decided to investigate, she's been friendly with cats before, not all of them seemed to be friendly to her though, but some were and it melted her heart, as much as she liked dogs? She felt that cats were more cuter.

The crying sounds from this stray cat came from the window, she opened it and found where the cat was, thinking it would be friendly.

However...

It soon began to growl, as the Girl of Steel noticed this stray cat looked like the same stray she found roaming around the central parts of New York.

An orange and white striped tabby cat, once swiped its paw at her by lashing out, feeling threatened by this all powerful, American Alien girl, began growling at her once it saw her.

"Oh... You again" Kara said with a straight face. "You're not gonna hit me again, are you? You broke your claws last time, little one" she spoke in the same friendly voice. "I'm not gonna hurt ya, okay? Be nice and I'll get you some tuna" she spoke to it, only getting a growl back from the cat as its hairs stuck up.

Its growls continued before it lunged at the Kryptonian's hand, once again breaking its claws as Kara, resulting in her tutting at the attempt to attack her again.

"Stubborn idiot, really?" she asked as she noticed the claws break off, the cat hissed at her before jumping off the balcony, running off as Kara sighed in defeat. Not even noticing the shimmer of blue light transmatting in behind her.

"I will win... You know that" she spoke out again, hoping the cat could hear her.

"Win against who?" a sudden voice spoke from behind, near the couch, perking up Kara's ears as her heart raced with joy... The roommate had finally arrived.

"YOU'RE HERE!!" The girl shouted with an overjoyed tone, not wasting time as she sprang up to tackle the Guardian onto the couch with her super speed.

"Ohp!" Y/N could only make a noise of effort as he felt himself tackled by the girl that was Faster Than a Speeding Bullet, tackled into a hug by his best friend.

"You're here! Omigod, you made it!" still overjoyed with Y/N's arrival, the girl giggled with the feeling she was feeling right now, happiness. She didn't think he would actually come.

"You thought I wouldn't come here?" he asked, wondering if she was thinking he wouldn't, only getting a giggle out of her next as she nodded her head, resulting in a yes from her.

The happy adrenaline began to wear off, Supergirl began to rethink what she had just done, seeing herself on top of the first friend she made since coming to Earth, made her cheeks glow an ominous red of awkwardness, realizing what she just done.

"Oh... Um..." she finally began to pull herself off of him, sitting herself down on the couch as she watched him rise up. "Sorry... I uh, got carried away there" she chuckled nervously, looking away for a brief moment before her eyes fell on him again.

Y/N could only smile at her apology, it was rather sweet of her to apologize but he didn't think what she did meant any harm, but judging from her rosy red cheeks? He guessed it was for making it a little awkward.

"Hi" he finally said, getting Kara's smile back on her face.

"Hey" she replied, giggling before pulling herself in to hug him, a hug he accepted nonetheless, who doesn't love hugs from Kara?

"Oh... Y/N also accepts your apology" Glace, now revealed, spoke to Kara as the hug broke and the two looked at her.

"Speaking for me now, huh?" Y/N asked his Ghost. "Kara had nothing to apologize for".

"Well she did say sorry, so... Thought I'd speak for you about that... If only I could wink".

"Well..." Kara got both of their attention. "I'm glad you made it, Y/N. You too Glace" she kept her smile. "I think you're gonna love this place".

"Judging from the interior already? It looks comfy to live in" Y/N leaned back onto the couch. "Somewhere to relax after a long fight with some Hive" he sighed with relief, taking out his hand cannon from the holster and set it down on the coffee table in front of him and Kara.

"Fighting more of those three eyed creepy things?" Kara questioned as Y/N hummed his response.

"More were spotted just outside the Francisco Bay, within a cavern that was dug out, probably by the Hive" Y/N explained which sunk Kara's heart. They were very, VERY close.

"Wait, no way! I only just came back from the Francisco Bay, or at least near it but still, I would've heard something" she levitated herself upwards, in a position as if she was laying on her stomach, kicking her feet up.

"It was deep, wouldn't be able to pick up comms or signals... I went in alone... Or so I thought" he rolled his eyes near the end, which Kara questioned.

"You were followed, weren't you?" she asked, gaining a nod from him.

"The League thought it was 'too dangerous' for us to investigate, so without telling me, they sent some Leaguers to help us. No matter how much Glace told them to leave, they insisted to assist".

"It was like I was talking to a brick wall" Glace annoyingly groaned.

"We were... Kinda frustrated about it".

"Oh... Hmm" Kara didn't quite know what to say, she wasn't a Leaguer, who knows what the Justice League have on their minds, they're only Earth's heroes and protectors, much like other superhero teams that were created after they were formed.

"Maybe they thought it would be best if you had some backup?" she pondered, the Guardian only shrugged.

"Maybe... But it was only a small batch of Hive, a Hive nest, can easily wipe it out... However the Leaguers they sent?" he responded, getting closer. "They uh... Weren't comfortable with me killing them, I know you don't mind, nor do the Titans or the Outsiders but the League? Oh they hate what I do" he whispered to Kara.

"Um... Guardian, you do know you don't need to whisper... They can't hear you".

"Oh..." he said with a dumbfounded expression, making Supergirl softly giggle her heart out. "Right... Why did I think that?" he cursed himself out.

"They wouldn't do that, silly!" Kara softly giggled once more. "Even my cousin knows that goes beyond boundaries".

"Yeah well... After that incident I had with some of those Leaguers? I doubt it" he shrugged again.

"Wait..." Kara began to put the pieces together, it seemed he was trying to tell her that he's not on good terms with some of the Justice League. "You're having issues with the League?" she narrowed her brows at him.

"Something like that. Got lectured about killing, about being a hero... It was... Something we both weren't expecting, Glace got really mad then, she got threatened which got me mad, and a fight almost broke out. I could've easily handled it myself but... *Sigh*...".

"You don't need to continue... It's fine" Kara gave the Guardian her comforting, warm hand, sensing frustration from her friend, she insisted that he shouldn't continue.

"I do agree, let's leave that behind and move on" Glace forwarded with the idea, thinking it would be best to move on.

"Well good" he felt relieved. "I just wanna relax for a change, some Guardians do need some relaxation".

"Well... I was gonna show you around the apartment, your room, my room, the kitchen" Kara suggested but she left it, only to get a narrowed look from Y/N.

"Y'know what? A tour wouldn't be bad" he sat up. "Wouldn't it?" he asked the Girl of Steel, he only smiled at the question.

"C'mon! I'll show you your room first" she ushered him up, even grabbing his hand to help him up and make him follow her.

* *

There was a few words that Y/N could describe the apartment Kara got for herself and for him, considering that she wanted to have him as her roommate.

It was... Different...

Something new...

And an experience...

In his world? On Earth-992014? There was nothing like these apartments... At least ones that are still intact, areas like the Old Chicago area that the Vanguard made clear to NEVER go anywhere near that area as it was too dangerous, now but a swamp where an old creature lives and is powerful enough to kill a Guardian or anything like a Hive or Taken. Old Chicago was also the area where a lone Guardian found the pulse rifle: Graviton Lance.

The old city was rumored to have housed seven Black Armory vaults which was something that was unobtainable without risk.

However... Old Chicago isn't like the Chicago on this Earth, seemingly a city of what it used to look like before the Golden Age which was sure an interesting visit the last time the Guardian went there to retrieve a Shard of Light.

However... Now he had been shown around the apartment, Kara had ordered dinner for them both, a Chinese takeaway, it was her first time ordering something and surprisingly? She was good at her communication skills, beyond wearing the cape.

Though she had put her superhero attire back on, as she had an idea to do for the night, wanting Y/N to be involved, Glace too... Though she'd just be in his backpack the entire time.

"It... Sure is beautiful up here... This what you do every time?" Y/N asked Kara, watching her hair blow softly in the soft wind, due to them within the night sky above the city.

"Yep, mostly I just hang out in outer space and look down at the Earth below... One of my favorite things is this, being able to fly and all that? It's my favorite part" she smile bright and hard, almost like a goofball with her cape and skort billowed through the soft wind.

"And you must enjoy carrying me like this?" he asked her another question, Supergirl's left arm under his legs and her right arm and hand supporting his back.

"Oh trust me? I can carry you in many different ways" she told him straight up with a smirk. "But honestly? I love carrying you like this" she then proceeded to wink which made him roll his eyes.

"Regarding you floating in orbit? I do the same with my ship, till I'm called or I go patrolling, but usually I'd be in the Tower, doing Hunter Vanguard work... At least in my short time doing it" he trailed off for a moment as Kara seemed eager to listen in. "But now I'm here, being carried by an all powerful Humanoid girl".

"Aww, that's so kind of you" Kara gawked, before giggling away.

He couldn't help but just chuckle along with her, her energy gave off such positivity in the darker times, being stuck on this Earth? He was becoming homesick thinking about it again...

But thanks to people like Supergirl? He is reminded that not all is bad, there is people here to prevent the homesickness from overwhelming him, but there was at least the Taken and the Hive to shoot... As long as some Leaguers don't continue their issue with Y/N's actions against the likes of the Hive.

"I sometimes feel homesick" Y/N said out of the blue, making Kara face him after their eyes were drifted away from the stars and city for a moment.

"Yeah... I know the feeling" Kara could emphasize with him, knowing how it felt to be so far from the home you've known for years on end, though she lost hers...

He didn't...

He and Glace were just stuck on the wrong Earth...

"But people like you... They keep that homesick feeling away, which is enough for me... Will I get home? Yes... But I realize the people I'll be leaving behind... Which is also something I fear on losing".

"Kal said the League will find a way to keep contact, Kal knows how much I uh... Um...-"

"Spit it out" Y/N smirked, seeing Kara's cheeks turn red as she tried to think of a better word to describe her relationship with the Guardian.

"How... M-Much I uh... Cherish about our friendship" she finally spat out the word she thought of, the other word she thought of earlier now out of her mind, not to be used.

"I mean... I'm hoping they'll find something... Because I'm gonna miss y'all, but the thing is? Taken and Hive are here... That's a problem that needs to be dealt with, and who knows what comes next? Could be the Fallen, Cabal, Scorn though that's doubtful or even the Vex. Who knows?".

"I'm just hoping you could stay for a little longer if they do eventually find a way to get you back, I've yet to introduce you to Stargirl" Kara said with her lips puckered.

"Who? Courtney Whitmore? Yeah we've met, the JSA needed my help on what they found was a Shard of Light, their first one yet... Met Power Girl there too, she seems... Cool" he informed Kara which the information alone, surprised her.

"Oh you have?" a dumbfounded Kara Zor-El said back. "Huh? Never told me that".

"I was going to, don't think that I kept you out the loop" he ensured with her. "You know I'd never keep you out the loop, I trust you".

Kara smiled again. "At least you do".

"Say, let's stay up here for a little longer... I'm actually enjoying the view from up here" he offered to stay, for sure the Guardian looked overjoyed and comfortable to be up in the clouds, held by a girl his age.

(A/N: bare in mind... Guardians age very slowly, so pretty much like Kryptonians in a way, only difference is that Guardians are practically immortal. However, as years go by... Noticeable changes will be seen, facial hair, wrinkles, hair color change. etc. It's even in the lore too. At this point? You're pretty much starting to age now that you've lived for 16 years, you were resurrected by Glace within a 16 year old body, changes will be starting to show soon as the years go by)

"Sure" she happily agreed.

As this is happening... Unbeknownst to Y/N... Kara couldn't help but keep thinking of the strange feeling she's had for some time now, the same feeling she's still conflicted about... No one knows about it, not even her cousin since she hasn't said anything.

Another thing was also conflicted her also...

The feeling of memories lying to her... Hearing her own father's words telling her to... Kill Kal-El? But why?

Why would her deceased father want Kal-El dead?

She wasn't a killer, nor did she have a problem with it... But it wasn't her nature to do so.

Has she been wrong? About her family?

Soon enough, she blocked it out of her head and focused on the other feeling for the moment... Not annoying but it was... A feeling of temptation, comfort and... Love?

She wasn't feeling crazy... Was she?

The feeling of comfort around Y/N? She understood it... But love? That still was something that she found hard to describe, love like family... But this??

It was something she still felt confused and afraid to tell him about her actual thoughts around him... If it made sense.

"Y/N?" Kara blurted out, wanting to tell what she had on her mind.

"Yes?" he answered thoughtfully and happily, wondering what was on the Girl of Steel's head.

Kara thought she was brave enough to tell him... At this moment, it felt perfect... But deep down? She was conflicted and not as brave as she thought.

"Um... Nevermind" she awkwardly chuckled. "I'm just... Happy to have you as my roommate for the coming days" she told him instead, happily regardless of the situation.

"Me too" he smiled, looking back at the view ahead of him as did Kara...
