S1 - Ch.14 - Lost and Found
One week had passed by since the black Kryptonite incident, the dark version split from Kara was once again infused inside of Kara herself, thanks to Wonder Woman's help with her Lasso.
Of course Superman and Batman were informed of this... Ordeal, Kal was nonetheless, happy that Kara was alright and she's already made some friends within the Superhero Community, one of them was the Teen Titan's member, Wonder Girl aka Cassandra "Cassie" Sandsmark, who the two first met by fighting each other near the Kent Farm just last week at best.
Kara however, found a good friend in Owen Mercer, the new Captain Boomerang after his father, the original Captain Boomerang aka Digger Harkness. Owen was a member of the Outsiders, a team Kara's been fond with since the last week. She wanted to try out for the team at least, see if it held to her standards, though another thing crossed her mind.
She overheard talks about Y/N potentially beginning to set up his newish Fireteam very soon for the Earth he is currently on, this world may not have Guardians, but it had heroes who were Guardians in some form or another.
He knows it's not really an official set-up for a Fireteam to be created here, usually it would go through with the Vanguard first, but the Vanguard aren't here, only he and his Ghost were... Or so they thought.
Since the recurring signs of Light energy appearances happening across the globe at this point, the Outsiders were dug into the situation as more Taken Incursions began to occur more often than usual, becoming a nuisance to be dealt with, effective immediately.
Thankfully, they had a Guardian they could rely on.
Currently however... Supergirl was minding her own business in the likes of New York City, patrolling around for any crimes which she has already stopped most already, she was knee deep in her patrol, keeping an eye out on the city, completely bored.
She had covered patrols for certain cities already this week for heroes who were needed elsewhere and she was happy to help regardless of what it was, even if it was just for a few hours or a whole day.
New York City was a little different than usual, still a city, yet it wasn't as big as Metropolis... Metropolis is her style but... She seemed to like New York a little, although patrolling was a little boring at the moment, not much crime has happened within the last 30 minutes, all she had been doing was flying which she never seemed to get bored of, but she was now sitting on one of the skyscrapers, looking down at the streets below, the view looked incredible from where she sat.
Usually, she'd be floating in space out of Earth's orbit, allowing her to think more clearly as it was peaceful up in the vast of space, along with listening to the sounds of the Earth.
A smile casted over her face as she heard the distant engine of a ship, seemingly approaching her position, already knowing who's ship it was, standing herself up next as she witnesses the ship approaching.
At first, she thought it was just a normal Javelin that was used by the Justice League, upon using her own super senses, it was indeed her best friend's Javelin approaching.
She jammed her fists into her hips, striking a particular pose as the Javelin flew on over the Girl of Steel's head which made her hair and cape flow out behind her, before Y/N materialized in front of her eyes with the satisfying transmat sound.
'Can never get enough of that' she said to herself with a satisfied smile. "Fancy seeing you here" the girl greeted the Guardian, floating herself toward him next as he chuckled, she noticed the Guardian's outfit looked a little roughed up than usual like he'd been in a ragdoll of a fight.
"Nothing wrong with checking on in with the best friend" he gave her a lopsided smile, extending his arms out like he was reaching for her.
The girl saw the notion and her smile grew big, giving her best friend a hug as she lifted him up off the ground. "Wanna tell me why you look like you've been dragged across the floor and tossed around?" she asked with a hint of curiosity.
"I can tell you all about it" Glace materialized herself in next.
"No thanks Glace" he brushed off his Ghost politely. "Intercepted a Taken Incursion outside of New Jersey, Teen Titans were there and I intervened to help them... Got more than I bargained for when a Taken Champion in the form of a Knight spawned in, may have died once or twice since the fella was tough" Kara put him down and backed away slightly, wanting to look at him in the eye.
"Coming from the same person who literally humbled Darkseid?" Kara snorted. "You died twice from something that sounds easy to face, Darkseid was a New God, these Taken don't seem to be any type of God at all" Kara crossed her arms with a sneer, which the Guardian didn't seem to like her mocking him, even though she was goofing around with him.
"You won't ever see him again but if you've ever faced the likes of Oryx, The Taken King, or any Hive God? You wouldn't be smirking right now!" he made the girl's smirk disappear with his serious tone as he slightly raised his voice. "The Taken are powerful and whoever their new master is, my bet is on one of the Hive Gods, Savathûn maybe".
"I'm sorry... I probably shouldn't have said that" the girl looked down in shame, her eyes off of Y/N as he realized he snapped at her back there.
"No, no... You shouldn't apologize, I think I should" he self admitted, surprising the girl as she looked back up from the floor. "I... I've been stressed out lately, and I might have snapped at a few people too when I shouldn't have. Too many questions have been asked and it's... Well..." he then shrugged while keeping his eyes off of her.
"I did say you should get some rest, Guardian. Guardians do need rest too, you know?" Glace interjected.
"I can't... I'm needed, we're needed, Glace" he shook off Glace's words as Kara took his hand.
"I thought you said, Guardians never get stressed?" she asked with wonder in her eyes, slight worry behind them.
"I lied" he responded lowly, shrinking Kara's heart a little, though she hated getting lied to, she felt some form of understanding why the Guardian lied... He was trying to be strong.
"He's been... Gallivanting again" Glace whispered to Kara, upon the Guardian hearing her whispering, he chose to ignore it for the better, it was Kara... He trusted her.
"Gallivanting?" a look of concern sprouted on the Girl of Steel's expression on her face.
"My... Old Fireteam, I shouldn't have even brought up about potentially making a new Fireteam, considering I got the last one-"
"DON'T you dare finish that sentence, Zain" Glace intervened quickly, her voice scolding enough as it is. "You always blame yourself for their deaths, their deaths WERE not your fault!" she grew tired of him feeling guilty for his old Fireteam's deaths which occurred during the Red War.
Y/N only sighed at Glace, knowing she was right, but he still felt he was responsible... He could've said more to convince them to flee the Last City after losing their Light originally. Instead... They stayed behind, ordering Y/N to flee while they held the Red Legion back. "I could've said more... But I didn't...".
"Zain... Don't" Glace issued again, not wanting to hear it again as he sighed once more, Kara could only feel sorry for Y/N, having no idea what to say other than just saying sorry.
"Ugh... What am I doing?" Y/N asked himself. "Of course it's not my fault... I'm just...".
"Grieving?" Glace answered for him. "It's normal, Y/N... And I'm your Ghost, my priorities isn't just being your Guardian... It's being your partner, and partners look after each other" the Ghost gave off a surprising speech, opening Y/N's eyes to taking responsibility of the matter, of what's done Is done.
Supergirl remained quiet, as her actions spoke louder than words with the hug she pulled him into next, giving him one of her comforting hugs.
"Thanks, Kara... I kinda need this to be honest" a smile grew on the Guardian's face. "You too, partner" he gave a visible smile to his Ghost, his mood switching completely from a dark sorrow to a bright nature.
"Glace, that was so sweet" Kara giggled lightly, still holding Y/N close to her body to comfort him.
"Well... He needs to hear it, his wellbeing is also my concern too" Glace responded as the two heard a chuckle escape Y/N.
"Especially when I die during work" he brushed on a joke, making Kara giggle a little bit more as she pulled away from him. "And here I thought I was a big hugger?" he raised his eyebrow.
"Well..." her cheeks flushed a little red. "Guess I am sort of a big hugger myself, too" she gave off a lopsided smile next. "So... Anyway... Is there anything you want to talk about? I just hate seeing you sad" Kara admitted, feeling a little sheepish about it too though she was speaking the absolute truth.
"Aw, how sweet of you" he teased playfully.
"Well it's true!" she pouted, crossing her arms. "I genuinely don't like seeing you sad, it makes me sad" she puckered her lips, doing her best to show a sad expression.
"Hehe... Okay, I get it now" he laughed at her expression, raising his hands up in surrender. "How goes the patrolling in New York? That's one of the reasons why I'm here" he asked.
"It's went well so far, already stopped some crimes and that's it mostly..." she shrugged, looking bored judging from her facial expression showing off the boredom.
"You look bored" he pointed out, giving off a smirk as Kara rolled her eyes.
"Ugh! You're right, It's soooooo boring!" she huffed. "I was thinking of patrolling around the world again, but I was insisted that I should patrol New York for a little bit by Kal. I mean sure, New York is cool! But omigod, it's boring since there's barely any crime within... I dunno? thirty-four minutes, now?" she continued on with her rant.
"I had a bet on that you gave off Hunter vibes... But judging from your complaint? I think you're better off as a Titan... Though I show no offense to Titans" he shrugged, Kara gave him a confused look before realizing what he was talking about.
"Oh" it crossed her mind. "That type of... Titan... What do you mean? I love capes, I'd definitely be a Hunter, being free and roaming... The Wilds, was it?" she asked.
"Yeah" he replied with acknowledgement. "Then you got the Hunter Vanguard Dare, which I took after Cayde's passing, it sounds like a curse, which is really is but... There's been a few changes to it since then, being able to leave the Tower when necessary instead of being stuck there almost twenty-four, seven".
"So... It's... A gamble then?" she then asked. "I'm not asking too many questions, am I?" she then spoke innocently, referring to what the Guardian said earlier about too many questions being asked toward him.
"No" he quietly chuckled. "You're not".
"And to be honest? The questions the heroes had for Y/N, were... Um... Quite personal and-"
"Completely stupid and irrelevant" he finished Glace's sentence, with her agreeing on his wording next.
"Glad I'm not one of those people" Kara sighed with relief.
"You would never... You're too sweet and innocent to ask anything like that" a sweet compliment escaped the Space Cowboy's throat, prompting in the girl's face to flush red as she smiled. "And to be honest Kara? I've opened up to you more than anyone here, save for say Batman, he needed to know and because he's... Quite scary" he embarrassingly admitted as Kara snorted next.
"You, who is probably more powerful than me and my cousin combined... Is scared of a mortal Human dressed as a bat?" she snorted again before giggling away.
"C'mon?! You have to admit that he is quite intimidating!" he issued his argument at the giggling Kara Zor-El. "Just that emotionless look on his face is intimidating enough!".
"Well... Hehe, he is why I sometimes call him 'Grumpy Bats' at times, I think it's starting to grow on him" she snorted yet again, calming herself down though she couldn't help but giggle at his disbelieved look on his face.
"Glace..." he turned to his Ghost.
"Don't get me involved, you said it, Guardian" she denied to even back him up.
"Oh c'mon!".
"Relax, you goofball!" Kara gently hit him on the shoulder, in control of her strength. "I'm messing around! I'm not gonna tell anyone" she promised.
"Not even Wonder Girl? I know you two have been talking a lot recently" he crossed his arms.
"Pinky promise that I won't... You trust me, don't you?" she asked curiously in a teasing matter.
"I do... But not with that look on your face" he still had his arms crossed, noticing the smug look on Kara's face.
"I did say pinky promise, you can NEVER break a pinky promise" Kara was right after all, a pinky promise could never be broken. It was the solid rule of the pinky promise.
"Alright" he unfolded his arms, connecting his pinky with Kara's. "Pinky promise it is" he gave her a smile, as she did the same as another thing came across her mind.
"Hey, I know I shouldn't bring it up but..."
"I know what you're gonna say" he softly snickered. "It's about the Fireteam thing, isn't it?" he asked, as Kara's eyes widened at him, thinking she might be going crazy all of a sudden.
'How did he know?!' she screamed in her own mind. "How'd you know?!" she asked him in a high pitched voice, catching him off guard as he snorted.
"High pitched there, no?" he teased her as she deadpanned at his direction.
"Shut up and answer my question" she demanded, frowning slightly.
"It was a wild guess" he shrugged. "About it though, I actually wanted to talk to you about it, I had a talk with the League about it all, and although if the Vanguard was here, it would have to go through them since they make the Fireteams official, not the Justice League" he explained. "But Zavala and Ikora aren't here right now" he added.
Kara knew who he was talking about, he had told her about the Vanguard recently, especially Commander Zavala - -Titan Vanguard, and Ikora Rey - - Warlock Vanguard, which left Y/N as Hunter Vanguard. She understood immediately who was who.
"So... Although it's not really... Official, I've began to list some potential heroes I think would be great to be in my newer Fireteam... You were the first I want to join" he revealed, surprising the Girl of Steel who's heart fluttered.
"R-Really?! You're actually going along with it?" she showed off the excitement in her body language, with the Guardian nodding his head. Not believing this was happening "I know I heard you talking to Kal about it recently, but with the League? Why them?" she asked next.
"Beats me, and they're the ones trying to find my Earth still... And it's... Frustrating me, I'm starting to feel a little homesick but then I'm reminded of people like you who keep me from being homesick" he rubbed off on Kara, causing her to blush happily.
"Aw that was cute" Glace teased.
"Quiet" he shushed her in a monotone voice. "You understand what I mean, right?".
"Y-Yeah, I do" Kara connected her hands behind her back, hiding them from within her cape which flowed to the left. "But... I dunno if you've heard but... Cassie, Wonder Girl, offered me an invitation to join the Teen Titans, since Conner doesn't really want to join and it was actually Conner's idea to have me replace him until he's recovered mentally" Kara looked a little saddened by the fact. "I... I don't even know if I can join two teams..." she looked away for a moment before she felt Y/N's hand on her shoulder.
"A Fireteam is sort of like... A squad in some form, it's a team yes, but it's like a strike force if you know what a strike force is" Kara nodded her head at him, confirming she knows what he's talking about. "You can still be part of a team like the Teen Titans and be apart of a Fireteam, you'll never be replaced in my book".
"You'd allow that?" she asked the obvious.
"Yes, Captain Obvious" he snorted. "I would allow it" he smiled next.
Kara rolled her eyes, smiling like an idiot as she opened her mouth to speak before a scrambled sound sounded out, coming from Y/N's communicator, the sound of Nightwing's voice calling out to him.
"That was bad timing..." Glace interjected.
"Indeed" he agreed. "Patch me in" he ordered, Glace began working her magic. "You're patched in" Glace informed him.
"Y/N here, what's wrong" he spoke into the communicator.
"Y/N, it's Nightwing, I need you to come to the Outsiders HQ quick, we just picked up a distress beacon, something Glace might be able to identify" Dick responded thoroughly. "Are you with anyone currently?" he then asked.
"I am, I'm with Supergirl" he looked at her and a smile came from her before disappearing.
"Well, bring her too. Could use the extra muscle".
"What's this distress signal may I ask?" Y/N brought his attention to why he was called.
"Well... The signal we picked up on the radar? Using the tech, Batman gave us to scan for Light energy sources? It's a distress beacon, emanating with a Light source" Y/N's eyes widened at the answer he was given and it meant only one thing...
"I'll be there headlong" he replied before tuning out of the comms. "Kara, you're faster than my ship, get us there as fast as you can" he jumped at Kara who caught him immediately, seeing the look on his face as if he had seen a spirit.
Glace soon disappeared into the Guardian's backpack as Kara understood the situation, she had never seen that look on his face before but knew it was very, VERY serious. "On it! Don't complain that I'm holding you like this or I'll fly upside down" she smirked as she levitated up, holding him bridal style like a Knight in shining armor carrying a Princess
"Just get us there!" he demanded as Kara shot off like a rocket, leaving a sonic-boom as she went sky high...

Amazon Rainforest, Brazil
The readings weren't wrong when Y/N's Ghost began to decode the distress signal within the Outsiders' databanks, it indeed was a distress beacon, with an encoded message.
It was a cry for help, a signal only Guardians could hear on their channels within range, however... The message was static, hissing with an almost unhearable voice on the message, but Glace being smart as she is, decoded the coordinates to Brazil, within the Amazon Rainforest, which was an unusual area to find a Light energy source. The Rainforest was delicate and elegant in its own right.
Y/N insisted he'd go alone, knowing the distress signal is from a Guardian, perhaps it was the missing Guardian he went to look for? But he was then stopped by Nightwing, telling him that the Outsiders are going with, even Supergirl though she wasn't necessarily part of the Outsiders, she was intent on going with the Guardian regardless.
He was convinced by his Ghost however to allow them to come along, which he was inclined to agree with, more search parties would perhaps help in finding the lost Guardian.
"We should split up" Y/N suggested, he took lead of the operation, despite some Outsiders not agreeing with the decision, Nightwing had shut them down momentarily, giving the Guardian the right to take the lead on this rescue mission.
"Why?" Grace Choi inclined. "Aren't we better sticking together, than splitting up?".
"It's better if we do, the missing Guardian is out there and we can perhaps find her more easily" he deadpanned.
"It's a she, now?" Thunder asked curiously.
"I mean, it was a female voice on the decoded message, you should've been there at the debriefing sooner, Thunder" a pale white skinned man responded to Thunder's question, wearing some form of outfit with a variety if colors, ranging from orange, purple, goldish bronze and silver, also wearing black underpants with a silver belt.
His name is Metamorpho, aka Rex Mason, an Outsiders member who joined some time ago.
"I still don't get why Zain is leading the operation, just like the Princess here, he's not an Outsider" Grace complained, looking at the Guardian who was currently in talks with his Ghost. "We already have enough muscle here too, it's already covered thank you very much".
"I can hear you, y'know?" Kara crossed her arms, overhearing Grace.
"Grace, cut them some slack will you?" Captain Boomerang intervened in Grace's rant. "Y/N is here for a reason, and Kara's... Kara's with Y/N on this too. They're pretty much inseparable".
"Aww, thanks Owen" Kara smiled at his direction who gave her a thumbs up.
"And you're seriously sticking up for her?" Grace crossed her arms. "Aren't you forgetting-?"
"Enough!" Nightwing interrupted, breaking up whatever argument they were having. "I made Y/N team leader of this mission, I know he's not an Outsider along with Supergirl, but I requested she'd come with him too, and this mission requires Y/N's expertise on the matter, which is why he's leading for now" he shut down Grace's complaint who sighed at his response.
"Alright" Y/N turned back to the group. "Found two possible locations, Glace has detected two points of Light traces within the north and south side of the Amazon Rainforest" he explained as his Ghost materialized in front of everyone and showed a holographic map of the forest.
"What's the plan, boss?" a black haired woman wearing a red overlay mask on her face spoke, donning a red and yellow looking outfit that resembled a sun almost, wielding a katana that was mystical in form.
Tatsu Yamashiro aka Katana was a warrior at heart, loyal and determined on any mission, she was the most loyal out of the Outsiders, even if leadership was shifted to another person, let alone the leadership was shifted to Y/N as this was his mission, the Outsiders were just backup along with Supergirl.
"The plan is simple, we split up and go to our desired locations, I'll take Supergirl, Captain Boomerang and Katana with me and we'll go south" he explained, looking at each person he called out. "Nightwing, you take the rest with you to the north and report back on what you've found".
"May I ask something?" Thunder raised her hand.
"Yes?" Y/N answered, wondering what Thunder had to ask.
"Does this Guardian have a name?" she asked as Y/N looked away for a moment.
"Her name is... Aya, one of the best Hunter Scouts the Vanguard had, a known friend of mine who disappeared from the Last City after... Cayde's death" he looked within the forest for a brief moment, turning his back on the others as Kara approached.
"I don't think, Y/N wants to talk about personal stuff right now" Kara inclined, defending him at best.
"And why's that? You tryna get closer with him again??" Grace folded her arms, as Kara frowned at her.
"Grace... Enough" Nightwing looked at her with a deadpanned look as the Guardian then cleared his throat.
"You have your objectives, let's move!" he brushed off the conversation and proceeded to move, Glace disappeared out of sight as he moved toward the direction he needed to go to, the others soon followed, with Nightwing leading his batch.
* *
"She's such a jerk!" Kara complained from behind the Guardian, finally breaking the silence that fell between her and the others which occurred for more than ten minutes. "No offense, Cap" she looked back at Owen who looked unbothered.
"None taken" he gave her a reassuring smile. "Grace can be bitter at times, best to ignore her when she is" he then shrugged.
"I don't go asking people all these personal questions, claiming that I'm 'getting closer' with Y/N? *Scoff*, he's my best friend for Rao sake" she rolled her eyes before puffing out an annoyed sigh.
"You're not letting that get to your head, are you?" Owen asked as Kara looked back at him briefly.
"I mean... *Sigh* I-I don't wanna say it..." she looked away from him for a moment.
"You can, Kara... It's fine" Y/N spoke from the front, gun in hand as he ventured forward still through the forest with the exotic birds chirping in the trees.
"You sure?" she asked as he then stopped dead in his tracks to look back at her and the other two he brought along with him.
"I've just been feeling homesick and a little stressed, nothing more" he blankly revealed his inner struggles. "And now the missing Guardian I've been searching for has surfaced on radar by you lot, and I intend to bring her home... If there is a way home at least..." he looked lopsided for a moment, the home-sickening feeling coming back up for the short amount of time.
"We all feel it sometimes" Katana spoke up. "I sometimes miss home too, although it's not the same as it was before, just gotta live through it. I'm happy with the teammates and friends that I've made here, it takes some time getting used to" she issued comforting words for the Guardian, detailing her experience.
"Would it make it any better if I told you I still feel a little homesick too?" Kara then spoke, approaching the Guardian with a little smile. "I still feel like Krypton's destruction happened yesterday too, even when I dream as well".
"I guess it does make me feel a little better" he gave her a smile. "At least I don't feel alone" Kara then smiled, giving him a brief one at best before it disappeared. "We're getting a little too ahead of ourselves, too distracted at most, let's continue onward" he collected himself and proceeded forward as Owen began to smirk.
"Y'know? She talks about you, a lot when she's hanging around with me" Boomer issued, as Kara looked at him with widened eyes, knowing what he was talking about.
"Boomer, I swear to Rao-" she warned with her cheeks heating up.
"Who, Kara?" the Guardian asked, smirking himself as he chuckled. "Do tell" he gave him the wheel of the conversation, cutting down a branch that was in the way.
"You could say she's a huge fan of you" he admitted, Kara immediately hit him in a gentle manner, not to hurt him but to show her annoyance.
"Boomer!" she shouted in disbelief.
"What?" he said while rubbing his arm. "I thought he deserved to know and he asked".
"I didn't hurt you there, did I?" she asked him with concern, seeing him rub his arm as he hissed a little.
"A little but... Not too sore or anything" he gave her a smile in return, making her sigh with relief but still she felt bad. "But c'mon! As much as you won't admit it, you and the Guardian here give off a lot of chemistry, it's too cute not to realize it" he complimented as Kara's cheeks deeply flushed red as an awkward soft laughter escaped the Guardian.
"Not the first time, I've heard that" he replied as Kara decided to keep quiet to herself, blushing embarrassingly within her thoughts.
Katana rolled her eyes, she didn't think she'd be with a bunch of chatterboxes as the Guardian looked back at her, sensing her little annoyance. "You alright?".
"Sorry, I didn't think there'd be this much chatter" she gave him a nervous chuckle, not used to the much talk between one another which had nothing to do with the mission, alone.
"We can stop if you want" he suggested.
"No it's fine... I suppose you and Supergirl are pretty cute together anyway" Katana smiled as Supergirl's blush became uncontrollable at this point, unable to stop the sense of butterflies in her stomach which felt pretty strange to her as she never particularly felt this way before.
"Omigod, not you too!" she huffed. 'I can't stop myself from blushing!' she hid her face in a sheepish manner, as Boomer chuckled from behind.
"It's normal, Kara. You'll get used to it" Boomer assured her, chuckling to himself at the girl's shyness of Y/N.
"We're just... Close... Close friends! Nothing more!!" she pouted, though in a sense... She didn't exactly want to say what she said in a way, her stomach still dancing with butterflies.
"Whatever you say, Supergirl" he brushed it off next, knowing the conversation was getting awkward for the clad girl dressed in blue and red. "How far off are we?" Boomer changed the subject in best for Kara.
"Not far, we're getting close" Y/N responded, gun in hand still. "Keep your eyes sharp for any trouble".
It was then Supergirl squinted her eyes from where Y/N and the others were heading toward, sensing what was a burning smell from almost a mile away, a smell of charred bark of trees, using her telescopic vision, she found the source of the smell as her eyes widened enough.
"Omigod" she gasped, gaining everyone's attention.
"What's wrong?" Y/N asked as Glace materialized beside him.
Kara didn't say anything, she simply floated past the three before flying toward the direction they were headed, she wondered how she couldn't pick up the sense now rather than earlier.
'I could hear Y/N calling me to come back, but I simply couldn't, the smell of charred bark from the trees of this elegant forest had gained my utmost attention as I heard the cries of what seemed to be... Kittens?' Kara spoke inside her head, narrating in a way. 'Ocelot Kittens more precisely, I done my research on Earth landmarks back on Paradise Island when I had the time, never did I think I'd be in the Amazon Rainforest... I wonder if it was named after the Amazons?'
Kara descended down to what appeared to have been a fight that took place, the burning smell of bark was all over the place, most of the ground was even charred as well, no sign of fires but there was a form of smoke in the air.
She overheard the cries of Ocelot Kittens, surrounding a downed tree, which had trapped an adult Ocelot as Kara rushed over, the kittens noticed and immediately began hissing at the stranger which was her.
"I'm here to help, don't worry" she spoke in a low comforting voice to show off a friendlier approach and made sure the adult Ocelot, seemingly the mother of the three little kittens, was alive with checking her heart with her super hearing, noticing the heart was beating slowly by every second.
She began to lift the charred tree with ease, thanking she had powers to not feel fire the way humans do, if she were a mere human, the tree alone would've burned her hand badly.
"Omigod" she lifted the tree off of the mother Ocelot and found it injured, badly burnt but alive and it was in pain, Kara didn't know what to do but she tried something with her ice breath to sooth the pain... But that only caused more pain and she stopped. "I... I don't even know what to do!" she began to panic, trying to save the Ocelot's life.
"There you are, what got you to --?" Y/N and the others arrived finally, accessing the entire area around them as he noticed the girl overlooking the adult Ocelot.
"Seems a fight broke out here" Owen pointed out.
"And there's an injured animal" Katana sadly points out where Kara was looking down at the injured Ocelot.
"Y/N... It's... It's dying" Kara issued in a sorrowed voice. "We need to help it".
The Guardian only put a hand on Kara's shoulder, showing sympathy. "I don't think there's anything we can do for her" he knelt down beside her, also saddened by the fact.
"But we can't just-!"
"I know... I know" he interrupted as Supergirl looked distraught, completely helpless to help the Ocelot, she could fly it back to a local town to find someone that could nurture it back to health before sending it back into the wild... But even by then? She'd be too late.
She hung her head low, fighting back the sense to cry, she hated seeing animals hurt, especially cats since she grew fond of the furry felines. "Wh-What about them?" she shook her head toward the Ocelot kittens on her right, still hissing at her.
Y/N stood up, noticing the three litters of kittens as so did the others. "That's a shame" Owen spoke, feeling bad for the little wild felines.
"Whoever did this is going to pay" Katana hissed, a vow of revenge in her tone of voice. Y/N thought for a brief moment of what to say next, knowing there was nothing they could also do for the three litters of kittens.
"W-We can't just... Leave them... Right?" she looked up at him, hoping he'd answer positively.
"They're wild cats, they can't specifically be brought out of a forest and raised like a normal domestic cat" Y/N explained in detail. "We can't exactly help in a way... I'm sorry, this is their territory, this is their home" Kara knew what he was talking about, and as much as it pained her to hear it? She had to admit that he was right.
Supergirl sighed in defeat, standing back up before looking back at the kittens who began to ran off... Without their mother with them now as she looked hopeless. "I guess this was also a lesson too? You can't save every single being all the time... Right?" she turned to Y/N, facing him now. "I thought that's what my cousin embodied, he's saved the planet countless times and done so many miracles, yet... It sounds like he always saves a life all the time" she looked away for a moment, crossing her arms as she looked saddened.
"Not even he can everyone, Supergirl" Owen spoke up. "Yes he's saved the planet many times, but he hasn't always managed to save someone from death".
"Yet why didn't he tell me?" she huffed.
"I don't know... Maybe he thought you already knew?" Y/N shrugged. "Look, take it from me. You can't always save a life in jeopardy, it's the whole uh... Superhero dilemma thing, you just gotta accept it" he placed a comforting hand on Kara, gaining her eyesight on him before she smiled a little as he finished speaking.
She was about to say something back before noticing something near Katana. "Hold up a minute" she told herself as she walked past the Guardian and his Ghost.
Katana noticed the girl approaching her. "Is there something wrong?" she asked the clad girl dressed in blue and red.
"I've spotted something near your feet" she knelt down at the grassy part beside Katana, carefully scooping up something into her hands as her eyes in shock. "Y/N".
"What? What did you --" soon his eyes then widened at the little object Supergirl held in her hands, the other two got curious as Owen looked back and fourth at Glace, noticing it looked a lot similar to her.
"No..." Y/N looked completely distraught, seeing a dead Ghost in the hands of Supergirl, scooped up in her hand as she held it safely with both hands.
"Oh no" Glace floated forward, scanning the dead Ghost who only had a part of its silver shell in tact, the rest of it was either destroyed or sprouted everywhere.
"Is that?" Boomer approached the pair, getting a closer look himself as so did Katana.
"It's her Ghost... Yhonder" he answered, speaking out Aya's Ghost's name
"Y/N... I'm so sorry" Glace floated back to him. "There's nothing we can do".
"I know" Y/N turned his back to the others, as he began to feel guilt. "Why did she run?" he whispered to himself as Supergirl overheard him, no thanks to her super hearing.
"Who? Aya??" she asked as he moved his head to the side slightly. "Sorry, I couldn't help it" she immediately apologized, praying to Rao she hasn't annoyed him.
"She ran away from the Tower because... Like a lot of the Hunters, she was afraid of being the next Hunter Vanguard since no Hunter had signed up to the Vanguard Dare, there was to be a city announcement of the next Hunter Vanguard and I alone elected to be the next, or at least a temporary Hunter Vanguard until a suitable replacement was found" he began to explain before he sighed loudly. "But I didn't tell anyone... Nor did I inform Aya" he expressed his guilt.
If her Ghost, Yhonder is dead, then she'd would soon follow. Y/N pondered on who or what attacked her, if it was the Taken? Sterile Neutrinos would've been detected already by Glace... Something else did this.
"You shouldn't blame yourself, Y/N" Kara spoke up, still holding what was left of Yhonder.
"I know... But this? I should've told her sooner but I didn't" he expressed with a sad look. "This wouldn't have-".
"Y/N, it's Nightwing, you hear me, Lightguy?" a sudden interruption came from within Y/N's comms channel, as he instantly communed in.
"I'm here" he spoke lowly.
Nightwing didn't question it but proceeded to speak. "We've approached our end of the objective, we found a body" Y/N's heart sunk, already having a guess on who it was but he needed confirmation.
"Is there a silver scoped gun with engravements near the body?" he asked, hoping he was right but he felt himself stunned by the sudden feel of guilt in his body.
"Katana, can you hold this for a moment?" Kara gestured the shell she was holding, Katana extended her hands out and Kara carefully placed the Ghost shell of Yhonder into the swordswoman's hand. The Girl of Steel rushed over to gave some comfort for her best friend who looked utterly and emotionally wrecked.
"Yeah... There is, beside her too" Nightwing confirmed as the Guardian looked down, filled with emotion, yet he didn't let it out... He contained it within him. He only sighed as he felt Kara's touch on his shoulder.
"I'll be there soon" he tuned out the channel, as a heavy outwit sigh fell from him.
"Can't catch a break, can you?" Boomer spoke his condolences as Kara snapped back round at him.
"Boomer!!" she scolded, saying his name loudly was enough to make him realize what he said was... Out of character.
"I didn't mean to insult..."
"No... It's fine Boomer, you meant no insult" Y/N spoke lowly as he collected himself. "Katana, Boomer, head back to my ship with Yhonder's remains... Supergirl, if you would be kind enough to...".
"Gotcha" she swooped him and levitated up, leaving Captain Boomerang Jr and Katana by themselves...
"I guess we should head back, like he said?" Owen turned to Katana who instantly began walking back the way they came.
"You heard the man, Mercer"...

"Damn... She's seen better days" Metamorpho examined the deceased Guardian, identified as Aya, Nightwing had assumed her Ghost was dead, judging from the tone of Y/N when he communicated back with him on the private channel he had with him.
"Whoever did this, knew what they were doing. And this is a Guardian? Like Y/N?" Thunder pondered.
"I thought Guardians were indestructible" Grace scoffed. "Clearly she wasn't".
"You may wanna take that back, Grace" Nightwing offered as Supergirl arrived with Y/N in her arms. "Because you can say it to his face if you want".
The Guardian ignored what had been said upon his arrival, as Kara found herself glaring at Grace slightly. "At least show some respect" Kara spat, now thanking Rao she decided not to try out for the Outsiders if this is how they'd react, she wondered how Nightwing had to put up with this.
Grace didn't say anything back, knowing the Guardian was within her vicinity, yet she felt bad regardless, not just at what she said. "I'm sorry, guess I got a little carried away there"
"Yeah... Maybe next time think before you speak" Supergirl still didn't hold off her ground toward her, witnessing the Guardian drop to his knees upon approaching Aya.
His head hung low, his heart drenched in guilt and anger, knowing he couldn't do anything about it, he felt as Aya and Yhonder's death is on his hands... Just like he felt as if his old Fireteam's deaths and Cayde's death was on his hands, when clearly it wasn't...
Something similar to how Kara felt... Was survivors guilt, and that's how he was feeling right now...
"Aya... Oh Aya..." he spoke out in a heart-wrenching tone, shocked to even speak as emotions sprouted across his body, Glace materialized beside him next as she then bowed her self down.
"Y/N... I..." Glace stopped herself from talking, meanwhile Supergirl knelt down to Y/N's side and embraced the Guardian with a comforting hug, just like he did with her back at the Fortress during her early days here on Earth, only this time the roles are reversed.
"There was nothing we could do..." Nightwing spoke up, seeing how much pain Y/N was feeling.
"Was... Was she...?" Y/N asked after a minute of silence, Glace's iris caught something on the gun itself, the gun that belonged to Aya, a sniper that was forged on Venus with the body of a Ghost who lost their Guardian to the Vex. It was called... Silver Millennium
"We found her like this, she was already gone when we got to her" Nightwing answered, hearing the Guardian sigh heavily by Aya's death. "I'm so sorry, Y/N" he gave his condolences for him.
"Guardian..." Glace inspected the gun, though it didn't seem like it, she gained his attention. "Aya left a message on the gun... It's for you?" she pondered. "She must've known we were on this Earth, but why didn't she try to communicate with us?".
"She must've recorded it before passing" Kara wondered out loud, seeing her best friend raise his head a little higher. "And made a guess that it was Y/N who would find her?".
"At least we found her... But not in the way I thought she'd go out" Y/N gave out a pained smile, shifting himself as to tell Kara to let go as she did so, allowing him to grab the sniper.
"Want me to play the recording?" Glace asked, as he gave her a look.
"Do it" he gave the green light.
"Thunder, Grace, Metamorpho, let's give him some space" Nightwing ordered. "Supergirl?".
"You go, I'll stay with him" Kara suggested she'd stay, wanting to support her best friend.
"I'll be fine, Supergirl. Go back to my ship with the others" he gave her a lopsided smile to assure her, she looked as she was about to refuse but understood his wishes and nodded.
"Do you want us to carry her and bury her somewhere quiet?" Kara asked nicely, offering to bury Aya somewhere peaceful as he shook his head.
"No... Thank you Kara but... I'll carry her back, I know where to bury her" he had an idea of where to bury her and Yhonder together, Kara gave him a sympathetic smile before joining up with the others on returning to the ship, leaving Y/N and his Ghost...
Alone with Aya... One of the Guardians Y/N had met years ago who became a friend of his.
"You ready to hear it?" Glace asked.
"Go ahead..." he nodded, holding the sniper in his hands as Glace hit play...

"If you've found me? Good chances is that I'm gone... Yhonder is... Dead, killed by the *static*... I don't even know how they got here but... I'm sure you won't be fending them off alone... Will ya... Y/N... I-I know for a fact that it's you who's found me *cough, distorted breathing* I'm hurt bad, really bad. I just want you to know that... I'm sorry, I'm sorry for running away... Only to run to Nessus and... Find myself trapped in this damn other Earth? I think??
*Coughs violently* Ugh this hurts so much... I almost forgot how having no Light felt... Just know that I'm sorry for... Not being a great friend as well. *Static*... Known you'd be the next Hunter Vanguard if I had stayed... Then we wouldn't be in this situation... Would we? *Laugher cough* haha... Oh this is not the way I wanted to go out. I leave this message for you, Y/N... And my gun... For you to keep, as a thank you... For being my friend, you were like a brother to me... Whether we *cough* waged bets at each other in the Crucible or went patrolling together... I suppose... All our stories end one day, huh? Keep doing what you do best, *labored breathing* for all of the Hunters... For... Cayde... Goodbye... Y/N" the message ended on a high note, leaving Y/N as speechless as anything as he thought of what to say to put in the final word...
He looked down in utter sadness, wishing he'd got here sooner than later, remembering how it went with Cayde back at the Prison of Elders.
"Goodbye... Aya" was all he said... Words couldn't express how much pain he was feeling, he placed the sniper on his back as he scooped Aya into his arms, his Ghost followed beside him as he began to walk back, with the Guardian he went to find originally.
He planned to bury her where she was firstly found by Yhonder.
At the ridge of the beach... Where she became...
A Guardian.

To be continued...
A/N: Pretty sad ending to this chapter though, I rarely do these type of things... Along with adding probably one of Destiny's saddest soundtracks to give it a little extra feel to it.
