S1 - Ch.11 - Hangout

Metropolis, USA, 10:25am

Y/N currently waited on top of the higher buildings in Metropolis, holding out the device that he activated to gain a certain Super's attention after doing some patrolling around Metropolis.

In a way? He felt free... And it felt different, but strange in some form, he still wasn't quite used to the Pre-Golden Age technology stuff, but he did get along with civilians nonetheless.

He had been everywhere on this Earth at this point now, been on certain missions with the Justice League, Outsiders and even the Titans when they all needed his expertise on certain requirements, such as Shards of Light extractions, neutralizing Taken Blights that infested points of interests around the globe and even traces of the Light itself.

One thing is still unanswered...

How did the Light make its way here? Into this parallel Earth? Even the Darkness or at least parts of Darkness such as Dark Zones made its way here.

Questions that would be answered in the foreseeable future the Guardian and Ghost thought...

"Maybe she's busy" Glace pondered.

"You think so?" the Guardian asked, looking down at the device he held in his hand. "Hmph, she would've been here by now".

"Like I said... She's busy" Glace repeated herself once more, before the Guardian sighed.

"And it's now morning, c'mon Glace, let's monitor activity around-" he put the device into his inventory before feeling a pair of arms entrap him from behind, with a fit of giggles.

"*Giggle* Boo!" a cheerful voice surprised the immortal Space Cowboy from behind, making him shiver a little but in turn, smiled with glee knowing who the voice belonged.

"You could've picked up, y'know?" Y/N huffed a little, but still kept his smile as the girl behind him let go, allowing him to turn around to see her face...

Her beautiful, beautiful face, her hair shining off from the rising sun and cape flowing behind her.

"I wanted to surprise you" Supergirl placed her fists into her hips, wearing the goofiest smile she can make before tackling him with a big hug while lifting him up. "Omigod! How long has it been since we last spoke? Almost a month?!!" she couldn't contain her excitement to see her best friend, to her? It had been a while since she last heard from him.

"Haha, simmer down, Kara. It hasn't been that long" he chuckled. Kara, not long after, put down the Guardian back onto his feet with the hug lasting a while longer, eventually the two pulled back to make eye contact. "Sorry about not being able to contact you sooner, I've been busy, dealing with Taken incursions and more Shards of Light many hero teams have encountered and they needed me and Glace's help on them".

"Oh? I see".

"But I'm free now, though it's..." his eyes glowed blue for a little before dimming back down. "10:27 A.M. in the morning. So uh... How've you been since I last checked on you?" he asked politely, the two now sat at the edge of the rooftop, their feet dangling off the edge.

"I've been good! As usual, still getting those strange dreams but everything's been alright, so far" Kara shrugged with an expression. "Being a hero is fun! Saved a plane containing the President of the United States last night, believe it or not" she gave a cocky smirk toward his direction.

"I heard about that, you were on national news not long after it happened, the President even gave you their blessing for saving their life, which is great, Kara! Really great" his words spoke wonders to her ears, filling her with a gleeful feeling of joy, she was happy in other words. "You're great".

"Aw, thanks" a form of a blush filled her cheeks, in response to his compliment.

"Hi, Kara" Glace materialized herself into view, greeting the Kryptonian.

"Oh hey, Glace!" Kara waved happily to the Guardian's Ghost who nodded itself like it had a head.

"Don't sweat it" he smiled back at her after the two greeted at each other, responding to her saying thanks earlier. "Is there anything else interesting that has happened?".

"Patrolled Gotham for a little bit as well, met uh... 'Batgirl' Barbara Gordon, Batgirl to be precise" Kara rolled her eyes at the obvious, knowing what had happened.

"Let me guess, Clayface right?" he then questioned.

"Yep, your correct" she kicked up her legs up at the air with a smile growing on her face. "I played along and fumbled a bank heist, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy were in the middle of, took them both down and I... Had my first, unpleasant kiss from Ivy... On the lips" Kara then cringed at the last detail. "Not the first kiss I had intended".

Y/N stared at Kara with silence, taking in the form of information she just shared with him as Kara looked back at him, wondering why he was staring with his eyes slightly widened.

"Is he okay?" Kara asked Glace.

"Oh yes he is, he's just... I think he's a little jealous - - don't you think, Guardian?" Glace turned the question to him as he snapped out of his daydream.

"Excuse me?" he looked at his Ghost, offended. "Jealous of what?".

"Jealous that Kara's first uh... Kiss was stolen? Should've been you" Glace unintentionally made both the friend's faces flush red.

"Wh-What? I-I uh..." Y/N had no idea what to say to his Ghost, Supergirl looked away not in embarrassment but of shyness, covering up her mouth as she lightly giggled to herself.

She sometimes felt a butterfly in her stomach when she'd think of him, but not to an extreme extent, unlike any particular sixteen year old girl. And Y/N has only began to start his aging from sixteen years as a Guardian from what his Ghost had told him.

Kara knew better as Y/N was just a friend to her, her best friend in other terms... She would be lucky to even have tried with him what Humans call "dating".

"Glace... Hehe, we're just... Friends... Close friends" Kara spoke up for the Guardian.

"Yeah... What Kara said" Y/N agreed.

"Hmm, I suppose so" Glace responded.

"I'll take that as you agreeing then" Supergirl chuckled. "So uh, Y/N?".

"Yes?"

"You didn't call me out here to Metropolis to just have a chat, right?" she could easily tell that it wasn't the case, with next? He smirked.

"Read me like a book, didn't you?".

"Sure did, you're easy to read" Kara's smirk creeped up next.

"Ohh? I can't tell if you just tried to flirt accidentally or you're just saying it in a friendly way" he chuckled.

"Uh..." Kara's face turned a shade of pink. "I-I m-meant it in a friendly way, not... Being flirtatious or uh... Anything" she awkwardly laughed, the pink shade fading away not long after. 'That wasn't smooth, Kara. Should probably work on your choice of words'.

"Well... Since you have read me like a book, I called you here because I wanted... To hang out!" he expressed. "It's now morning and I think we should get something to eat, heard a good place here does great English muffins"

Kara smiled at the idea before a question dawned on her mind. "Don't Humans brush their teeth first before eating?" she asked innocently.

"Yes but not all the time. Me though? Don't need to. Teeth is as clean as my gun... Except... White" he answered, grinning to show his teeth as Kara couldn't help but giggle.

"Sleep?" she then questioned.

"Nope... But we do dream, and we do sleep, but we don't really, 'need' sleep as much as anyone else does. And from what Glace researched, neither do you or Kal" he answered the next question. Satisfying Kara's desires for info.

Before the girl could reply however, her super hearing picked up an alarm and not just any alarm...

Kara then smirked at what she was hearing, before tutting, confusing the Guardian. "They never learn, do they? Not when there's a Super in the city".

"What?" Y/N looked at her as the Kryptonian sat up, her cape and skort billowing softly in the wind. "Oh uh... I just noticed you changed your fit up a little, nice touch" the Space Cowboy noticed the new skort Kara was wearing, with the House of El crest in the middle of the belt to add that final touch as Kara looked down at him and smiled.

"Thanks!" she answered with glee. "Central Metropolis bank is being robbed, alarm went off, those boys are in for a doozy" she grinned before offering her hand out to him. "You coming, partner?".

"Partner?" he asked. "We're not - - *Realization* Oh... I see" he then smirked along with her, taking her hand to pull himself up to his feet. "Never had a partner for a while, believe that. Just... Don't call me a sidekick".

"Hmm, I'll consider it" she kept her smirk, making the Guardian frown.

"Lady, I mean it" he tilted his head, getting her to smile and giggle lightly. "Glace, call the shi-"

"Actually, you don't need to call your ship" she put her fists on her hips.

"Why?" he asked the Girl of Steel, as a newer smirk came up on her lips as his expression showed that he shouldn't have asked...

"You're gonna carry me, aren't you?".

* *

"Hurry up man! Before that alien freak gets here!"

"I'm hurrying! This shit takes time, y'know?!"

"Hey! Get down on the ground! Or your kid gets it"

"Jesus, D. The fucks wrong with you?" the robbers holding the hostages at gun point all got distracted toward 'D' for a moment, hearing the unsettling threat toward a hostage and their kid.

"Only way to keep em down! Keep an eye on the damn hostages you morons!"

"Last I heard, that strange hooded space magic guy was in Metropolis"

"What?! The one with the flashy gun? He can't take all of us"

*CRAAASH!!*

"I'd like to see you try" a new voice came through, upon the glass from the window being smashed as the hooded Guardian now stood in front of the bank robbers, holding the hostages.

"Shit, it's the freakin' space guy!" Y/N faced down the robbers with guns, now directly pointing toward him, as these robbers looked a lot like the ones from Gotham.

"Huh? I swear I smelled something fishy earlier, didn't think Cobblepot's thugs would be robbing a Metropolis bank this time of day" he snickered at the thugs.

"Don't ya dare pull any of that magic bullshit on us! One move and the hostages die!" the thug, the main thug, seemingly the supposed leader of this group, threatened to kill the hostages, if Y/N dared to make a move.

"Hmph, don't need to... It's all gonna end Super horribly for you anyway" he smirked, leaning back against the wall before faking a yawn. "Y'know? It's early in the morning and here you are? In Metropolis, robbing their bank full of cash and whatever goodies they have down in the vault as your guy is having trouble opening the security door".

"You don't scare us, freak!"

"Indeed I don't, tis a good thing I'm not Batman, guess you got tired of Gotham, huh?" he asked as a bullet hit the wall beside him, a warning shot.

"Next one is for your head, wonder boy"

"Ha... Humorous" he chuckled before his face turned serious. "I didn't think you got the memo earlier... I said... It's all gonna end horribly for you anyway" he then gave them a smirk as a blue and red blur then zoomed in, knocking down all the thugs within the room with inhuman speed.

The Guardian leaned off the wall as the blur stopped upon the last thug being taken care of. "Good distraction".

"Would've been perfect timing the first time" Y/N replied to Supergirl who stroke a power pose, upright and victorious she felt in fumbling up the thug's plans.

"Wanted to add dramatic effect" she chuckled as he in turn smiled at her.

"Alright everyone! Your safe to get up, authorities are outside waiting, form a single line and walk out slowly so they can identify you" Y/N then ordered the now freed hostages, beginning to guide the shaken hostages out.

"Wait, No Keira!" a cried voice shouted out, a mother's voice, shouting for her eight year old daughter.

The little girl broke away from her mother and ran over to Supergirl, hugging her leg as Kara looked down in awe. "Uh..."

"Thank you, Supergirl, you're my hero" the girl innocently spoke as Kara knelt down with a huge smile.

"No problem, it's what we heroes do" she gave the girl a hug back, before her mother came to reclaim her, offering her own thanks to not just Supergirl, but to the Guardian as well, it was rather cute to see the little interaction between the Kryptonian and the little girl, thanking her for her efforts. "Aww, that was... So adorable" Kara's heart fluttered at the realization of being thanked, by someone so little and young as Y/N approached.

"You know? On my Earth, the children of the Last City, look up to Guardians, just like how children here look up to the heroes" he informed her.

"I understand why" she crossed her arms and smiled.

"There's one kid I know, really great kid. He says he idolizes me, it's adorable. They say never meet your heroes... But some... Some heroes are worth meeting".

"Think I will get idolized?" Kara asked, a question that almost sounded impossible to ask.

"Perhaps so, but less about the future, more about present. Let's get these thugs handed to the authorities".

"Good idea".

* *

After fumbling the attempted bank robbery from... Surprise, surprise... Penguin's Thugs from his gang, handing over the thugs to the authorities to handle them... And perhaps a flight around the city, as much as Y/N felt a little... Humiliated by Supergirl, carrying him as if he was the princess and she was the knight in shining armor, they stopped by a restaurant that served breakfast, the one mentioned by the Guardian himself.

Kara had to try these... 'English Muffins', Y/N talked about. It was something he always got every morning, though a bit late than usual since the restaurant staff knew what his order was every time.

Only this time, he brought a guest with him in the form of Supergirl.

However... They would take the order as takeaway, as Kara wanted to at least eat somewhere else...

A rooftop on the highest buildings of Metropolis to be more precise.

"Omigod, you weren't wrong, these are great!" she spoke with half a mouthful, a bacon English muffin, scoffing the lot of it as she heard her 'partner' chuckle lightly toward her.

"Don't you slow down to eat? These English muffins are too good to be scoffed" he asked Kara who only gave an expression of joy at him as she had a mouthful still.

"Seems she's enjoying it from what I see, Guardian" Glace chimed in.

"Suppose so, but... This is her first English muffin!" he spoke back to his Ghost.

There was one thing Y/N admitted and it was that Kara was cute when it came to food, probably since her first hotdog, she's had a craving for Earth food, as much as she misses Kryptonian food, Earth food was great in her words.

Though coffee wasn't her type of thing to drink, he instead ordered her a hot chocolate, for old times sake.

Fair to say that Kara was enjoying her first English muffin from the way it looked.

Ten minutes in and their breakfast was finished, Y/N stored the boxes and containers they took with them and put them into his inventory to put into a recycling bin when he finds one as they overlooked the city down from the building they sat on together, with Glace monitoring activity for any potential threats.

"Y/N?" Kara scoots to her left, closer to her best friend.

"Yes, Kara?" he replied.

"Can I tell you something?" she asked, the Guardian didn't see the worry pouring on her face.

"Sure, anything" he kept his gaze on the city streets below, not noticing Kara's expression.

"Do you... Ever get the feeling of being... Watched?" she suddenly asked from his perspective, making him focus his gaze on her now.

"Watched?" he asked as Kara nodded. "As in... Being spied on?".

"Yeah".

"I thought you were alright with Batman and Superman, along with Wonder Woman keeping an eye on you when you're out and about?" Y/N turned the question around.

"Yeah... Well, still a little sceptic about that but I understand why they're doing it since I'm still pretty much new to the hero stuff" she shrugged. "But it's not about them... It's... About being spied on from someone else... Someone... Mysterious and it's concerning me" she showed the worry on her face, showing to him she was being serious.

He looked puzzled for a moment, trying to think of what to say.

"I mean... It's no coincidence that Clayface, disguises himself as the original Batgirl to 'trick' me, then orchestrated the bank robbery with Ivy and Quinn. Ivy kisses me but did nothing to me, she had synthetic Kryptonite lipstick applied to her lips and then... Clayface as Batgirl gets confused and then proceeds to attack me, which... Failed" Kara went on with an investigative tone, trying to connect the dots.

"I do see what you're implying" Y/N finally answered. "Did you tell Batman?".

"Yeah, he said he'd look into it, but I doubt he's told Kal, since I didn't tell him. Don't wanna make my cousin too worried as it is" Kara replied.

"Which probably would've been better if you did" he blatantly told her. "But I get it".

"I screwed up, haven't I?" her expression dropped, feeling ashamed of herself.

"No no, you didn't screw up. Listen, take it from me, I've been spied, stalked and chased. But those were different situations but... It still feels the same way when I think about it" he comforted her, wrapping an arm around her. "And Kara? I'm glad you informed me about this, I was about to ask if everything was alright, you seemed a little more... Quieter than before".

"I know, I'm still kinda struggling to find myself in a way as well, find out who I am if you know what I mean" she responded, looking back up at him.

"I think we all go through that at some point" he shook her a little, in a gentle manner. "Even I had to find myself and who I was" he offered a smile.

"I'm glad we're best friends, you know that right?" she then got her smile back, making the Guardian relieved.

"Yeah, I do. And I don't regret it" a chuckle escaped him as so did Kara...
