Prologue- Lightning Strikes

The wilderness had always been a dangerous place. It's like walking through the unknown. You never know what could be ahead or behind you. You always have to stay vigilant - keep your eyes and ears open and be aware of your surroundings at all times. No matter how safe you feel, never let your guard down. These were the words that the intelligent Pokémon never forget in the wild. One Pokémon in particular took them very seriously...

A small yellow figure was running through the forest. It wasn't seemingly running away from something but it was trying to get somewhere fast. I got to get home quickly... The final egg is about to hatch... I cannot miss this moment for the world. No matter what! This moment only happens once and if I miss it, it can't happen again...

Clouds began to form high above the Allearth Forest. Kalos was in for a violent storm. Meadow Vivillon quickly fluttered into dry, hiding places. Skiddo and Gogoats frolicked around the woods to seek their own shelter. However, no such storm had bothered a Pikachu.

The small yellow, electric type rodent Pokémon ran through a bush, stepping into a hidden passageway to a small area he called home - the Pikachu Village. An entire pack of Pichu, Pikachu and Raichu happily inhabited this land in peace and harmony. However, this Pikachu was in too much of a hurry to give any of them a proper greeting - except for one.

"Zach, where is she?"

"Levina is inside the den. She is waiting for you, Thunder. Quickly..."

Thunder nodded in response before entering the dark den where he greeted his mate. "I made it. How is the egg?"

"The egg is doing fine. It is about to hatch. You made it back from the Starter Squad HQ in time. I hope Paarthurnax wasn't mad that you had to leave earlier than usual."

"I'm sure he understands," Thunder replied. He turned his gaze to the little Pichu that stood beside her mother. "Hello Audra. Are you excited to watch the hatching of your new, younger sibling?"

The female Pichu didn't give a vivid response and instead only blinked.

"Paarthurnax might but I don't think she understands yet, Thunder," Levina said.

"Audra is too young. She is only a year and nine months old. She'll learn when she gets older." Thunder mentioned. He turned his gaze back to the egg and quickly changed the subject. "Has it moved yet?"

"The egg has moved around slightly sometimes, but sounds can be heard coming from inside so she egg is definitely set to hatch soon. It won't be long until our new Pichu child hatches, but until then we need to make sure it is safe from any threats." Levina answered.

Audra slowly approached the egg and put a tiny paw onto it. She felt something shifting inside. "Mama, I feel the movement inside!"

Levina gasped in surprise, quickly picking up the young Pichu. "Yes, we know, but you mustn't touch it without permission. We don't want anything to happen all of a sudden. Give it some time."

"Oh, okay... Mama..." the young Pichu said with her head down in shame.

From the outside of the cave, the storm was starting to run its course as it began to sprinkle. It didn't take long until it started to pour. "The storm is on its way. I hope it doesn't flood or we will have to search for higher ground."

Suddenly, the egg began to shake. Thunder and Levina's ears perked up, putting all their focus back on the egg resting in a nest made of leaves. "It's ready?!"

Then the lightning struck. Crack. A line went across the egg as soon as the lightning crashed. Another lightning struck as another crack appeared on the egg. One by one each lightning strike brought another crack into the egg. Eventually the egg started shaking violently and the cracks began to appear more frequently until...

A bright light blinded the Pikachu family as they shield their eyes from both the light from the egg and the lightning. Once they heard the thunder, they jolted in surprise. Then they heard whimpering from the newborn Pichu.

The Pichu was scared of the storm as it saw the lightning strike and the thunder's violent boom from outside the cave. "Hello little one, it's alright. You're safe with us. Welcome to the world!"

P-Pichu...?

"We're your parents. Thunder and Levina. This is your home. The Pikachu Village."

The newborn Pichu tilted her head in curiosity. She wiped her teary eyes as she looked up at her parents, eyes now full of trust. The slightly older Pichu beside her mother looked at the slightly tinier Pichu identical to her. Levina added. "This is your older sister, Audra."

Another roar of thunder echoed throughout the cave, scaring the newborn Pichu again, making her cry louder this time. The older Pichu covered her ears in annoyance. She picked up the top of the egg shell and put it on the newborn Pichu's head. "Put it back!" She remarked, receiving a laugh from her parents.

"I'm sorry, Audra, but we can't do that. She's a part of the family now... But... What should we call her?" Thunder asked.

Levina only took a few seconds in thought before she answered, "how about Lightning."

Thunder smiled. "Lightning, I like it. It's a very fitting name for her. From this day forward, you'll be known as Lightning."

⚡️

Three years later in the Kanto Region:

A five year old male Eevee was running through the forest by himself. His stomach was grumbling - signaling that he was very hungry. He noticed a rawst berry bush in front of him. The Eevee licked his lips, "rawst berries! My favorite!" He said aloud to himself. It seemed to have been untouched and deserted but as soon as he was only a few inches away from it, he heard a sudden sound. It sounded like a light buzzing and delicate wings flapping. His large ears perked on high alert, turning around right on time to see a large white scythe nearly slash at him.

A green bipedal, insectoid Pokémon— a Scyther to be exact, was glaring at him in anger with narrow, triangular eyes. "These rawst berries are mine!" He growled.

The Eevee took a few steps backwards, visibly trembling. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't know these berries were yours. B-But can't we share? There's plenty for the both of us."

"No! They're all mine! Back off Eevee and go find another berry bush. I found this one fair and square."

"B-But I never noticed you until-"

"SILENCE!!" The Scyther bellowed, slashing at the Eevee again with a scythe-like arm. He raised his scythe again; this time preparing to use an Air Slash attack on the tiny brown fox Pokémon. However, before the attack managed to strike its terrified target, a sudden Ember attack seemingly came out of nowhere and struck the Scyther directly in the face. He hissed and winced in pain from the fire type attack. "Where did that come from?! Who dares threaten me with fire!"

A Charmander leaped out of the bushes and landed in front of the Eevee. He was wearing a blue bandanna around his neck. "How dare you attack a young, innocent Eevee!! All he wanted was some food!

"Who the heck are you?!" The Scyther hissed.

"I'm Spike and I'm here to protect the innocent and helpless from impolite, greedy and villainous Pokémon like you! This berry bush is not claimed by anyone. Therefore, any Pokémon has the right to take berries from this bush. Once it is picked, that is when it is considered as yours, so stop threatening this poor, hungry Eevee. There is plenty to go around for everyone."

"Grrrr!!! Fine!" The Scyther grumbled, taking a few berries from the bush before flying off. Spike was a tad surprised the Scyther gave up so easily. Perhaps it's just his fear of fire?

Spike turned to the young, timid Eevee cowering behind him. "Are you alright, kid?"

"Y-yeah, I-I-I'm fine... Thanks for saving me!"

"No problem!" The Charmander put his claws on his shoulder, making a heroic pose. "The name's Spike and you are?"

"Dusk...My name is Dusk. It's nice to meet you, Spike." The Eevee offered his paw to shake. Spike instantly took his paw and returned the gesture.

"Hey, kid. You seem a bit too young, traveling Viridian Forest by yourself. Where's your parents?" Spike asked.

"I- Well I... I lost them both... by a vicious Pokémon attack. A Tauros..." Dusk replied, sullenly.

"Oh, my Arceus!! That's terrible! Losing both parents and at such a young age... This poor kid has been through a lot... I can't just leave him out in the wilderness to fend for himself...! Where are you headed, kid?"

"I- I don't know..."

"Well, if you're just traveling aimlessly. It's better to go with a partner. Maybe you should come with me."

"Where are you going?" Dusk asked, his head tilting to the side, curiously.

"I'm heading to the Kalos region to join the Starter Squad. My greatest goal in life is to help the innocent Pokémon and that's what the Starter Squad does. Maybe if I traveled all the way from Kanto to Kalos, they would see a lot of potential in me."

"Traveling all the way to Kalos is a long journey but I don't really have much else to go. Besides, like you said, it's better to travel with a partner so I think I should join you. Maybe we could join the squad together?"

Spike seemed both surprised and intrigued by this young Eevee's enthusiasm. "You really want to come with me?"

"Yes, of course I do!" Dusk answered with a nod, a slight wag from his bushy tail gave off a bit of excitement.

"I love your attitude, young Dusk. You have a strong sense of adventure I give you that. Well then, kid. In that case, you're welcome to be my partner through this journey."

Dusk smiled at his new Charmander friend. "I promise you that I will help a friend get into the Squad!"

Spike returned a smile to the Eevee. The Charmander picked a few Rawst berries from the bush and handed some to Dusk. "It's best that we eat something before a long journey. Eat up, Dusk!"

The new duo of young friends both enjoyed a nice meal together and talked amongst themselves until Spike decided it was time to go. "Shall we get going then, Dusk?"

"Whenever you are, Spike!" The Eevee replied, with his mouth full of Rawst berry juice. "Let's help as much Pokémon along the way to gain experience during our journey too."

"You got my exact mindset, kid. You're already showing me that you got potential to be my partner in the Squad."

A long journey full of challenges, surprises, happiness and sorrow was about to begin as a young Charmander, Eevee and Pichu began to embark on a journey of their lives.

Unless you have already read that one and want to read the updated version, that's fine too.

I hope you enjoyed it so far ^^

More will - of course, be coming soon... So I hope you look forward to seeing what will happen.
